The biggest play, Luminate triple 6, teleports Thrallmaster, quad, move kill move kill. Have to have patience. 1x Thrallmaster 1x Luminate 2x Mirrorblade Glaives 5x Mindbound I’ve found you have to position your team patiently, using Mindbound to screen out the Elite/Tall models, while you plan out how to score and kill-secure. If you only fight when you know you can secure the kill on elites/talls, it helps. I’ve found the whole band is really good against chaff,
They are very good at mulching through chaff for sure. If you can apply that pressure and secure and activation advantage you can often propel yourself to victory. You just need to carefully find a solution to their bigger hitters
This warband and Corvus are what got me into Warcry. Sad to see both kinda suck ass now, but at the same time I love using them even if I know I would lose.
I never realised that you couldn't teleport them out of action - that was the main purpose I used teleport for. Rush a Mindbound onto an objective and pick it up, then pray they survive one turn as the enemy closes in, before teleporting them out to safety holding the objective...
CL were fairly decent in V1, and shadowy recall had a fair amount to do with that. But now that less turns exist in the game, the potential utility of this ability is costed too high. Much like the rest of the warband. Regardless, I still enjoy playing them, like the rest of the V1 bespoke warbands. When played in isolation with each other, the discussion about their quality changes pretty drastically, since most bespokes maintain similar power parity. Sphiranx has always been one of the best allies for Cypher. I am also a huge Ephilim nut in warcry for my tzeentch demons warband, and combining them with cypher lords feels more like you are bringing Cypher to reinforce the Pandaemonium, instead of vice versa. Wonderful bladeborn unit though, and richly deserves a full deep dive with pink demons abusing blessings to get that split.
Cypher Lords really need some key points breaks to help them out - possibly a buff to their teleport. I would love to see it be a double (as many teleports are now) and having Mirrorblades dropped 10 or so points (Luminate down about the same) would give them more scope to do their tricks without breaking the bank and being completely reliant on rolling triples
Man I saw a box of these for £20 once and almost got them, but knew they weren't great for a first bespoke team to get in to the game and I was holding on to different warbands coming back in to stock at the time. Not going to lie I kinda regret it as like them visually especially with their weapons, the masks are okay I guess. But hey if I ever see them that cheap again...
Like others I had good times playing them in 1st edition but they've suffered badly from having the costs of Mirrorblades cranked up considerably, coupled with the effect Counter has had on high attacks, low strength, low toughness, low wounds fighters. And when your fighters cost as much as Cypher Lord do it's not like you can guarantee you'll be able to only attack fighters that have already activated, so Counter is quite a threat.
What are those stat increasing Blessings? I don’t see them mentioned in the rule book 😅 Can you just use leftover points to buff units stats, and are there limitations?
@nicolajbalslev4988 that is correct. From my experience, they are used in most competitive scenarios. Games Workshop use them in their major events for example :)
Its really awesome for you to cover on warbands like these, thanks for that!
I should try out that Tzeench underworld band in warcry now.
I’ll be covering them specifically soon :)

This was fun to watch :) Good job mate!
Thank man :D
I like the sound of mixing in Ephilim and a Mindstealer.
It’s a very fun combination for sure!

They both have play, but they are much harder to work with than a lot of factions for sure
Mofel aesthetic is really on point, but wish the models are cheaper point wise.
For sure!

Oh you totally can teleport them out of combat! It’s not a move, you simply remove them from the board and place them again :)

A sad day indeed

They look awesome, but they are quite rough on the battlefield for sure haha

Their stats may be pants tier, but the models look great. That alone makes me want to get a box
They are swanky as all heck. I love them

They were added in a White Dwarf update and you can find the full rules for them here -

@@wargamesontoast awesome thanks. But using them would require your opponent to be ok with using those optional rules right?
