When I rig a brush hog I make sure the flappers are going to kick up if it drags over a rock or something. Drag one across your finger and see which side the flappers kick up at and rig it that way. The baby brush hog is all I use too!
Randy is right about Brush Hogs being great fish catchers. One little thing I do is pinch the bottom of the arm looking appendages loose from the body to give just a little bit more action.
I do the same thing.
This bait actually got me “hooked” on bass fishing y’all! Thanks Randy 🎣
Texas rigged Baby Brush Hog is my favorite bait!!!
C rigged I like to hop it and let it settle down.
Yesterday, I used that exact brush hog as a top-water and caught several. Most versatile bait I have in my arsenal. Great video.
Great tip Randy. The Baby Brush Hog is my favorite Carolina Rig bait. I’ll use it from post spawn through the fall. I also caught my PB with a 6” Brush Hog on a C-Rig at Falcon Lake. I’ll flip with it too. In Texas my favorite color is Watermelon Red. I’ve also done really well on WM Gold, Tilapia, Red Bug and a natural baitfish color. It’s a staple in any bass fisherman’s tackle box.
I caught a few at Amistad over memorial weekend. Was using green pumpkin.
A great alternative to the brush hog is the Gambler Bacon Rind. It has one large swimming tail in back instead of two smaller ones and had two “ wings” where the front legs would be instead of the looped legs of the Brush hog.
I love these Randy! These quick tips on how to fish baits when and where is awsome 👍🤠
Baby brushhog on a split shot type rig did me well in my first kayak tournament of the season. 2 fish in 3 casts. Green pumpkin magic
Here and I thought they settled the idea of baits floating off the bottom with the ole ball and chain awhile back, especially zoom baits (which I love) with all of the added salt!
Prolly my favorite bait to throw! 👍🎣
It’s one of the greatest baits ever made, in shallow clear creeks and streams I love the Teeny brush hog Texas rigged and mojo rigged (finesse Carolina rig). On large smallmouth lakes I use the middle sized one, green pumpkin with purple flakes, it always get bit, it can save the day when nothing else works!
Had a trip to Mteri dam in Zimbabwe couple years back . Just before spawn and slayed a Lot of big bass pitching junebug light mojo rigged brushhogs up against the bullrushers in 2 foot of water . Fishing a main lake point . Was the most productive for the trip .
I've had some of these in my tackle bag for years and never used them until this weekend.
I was using it on the Carolina rig and I noticed when I was reeling the bait bag close to the boat that the lure was twisting like a helicopter lure.
I wasn't very happy about that.
I've always cut down the length of the two tails... gives you an option of more fluttering tails... June bug is my go to color...
Is there any advantage to the baby size on a shakeyhead vs dragging it Texas rigged?
How that FFS on your boat ?
Keeping that quiet ?
Literally everywhere. Brush hogs catch fish..plain and simple.
Watermelon candy is my go to. Love fishing that bait on these Cali reservoirs and the Delta.
You should of shown how to put the hook on it
I’ll pit my favorite color against any other Baby Brushog color hands down! Any lake, any conditions, anytime……. Can you guess the color Randy? Let’s test my challenge at Tablerock.
Ruby red
@@kristiangates2673 My second is a little known color called “South African Special”
There is another deadly color for finesse drop shot or Texas rigging in clearer water “Robo Worms - Morning Sunrise” I get mine from Tackle Wearhouse and buy 20 packs at a time. Give it a try sometime! Let me know how it goes at your lake.
My first love...
Killer bait on Stockton.
Love the brush hog, my first Texas rig confidence bait. Thanks for the video Randy. Keep up the teacher vibe!
Seems to be a forgotten bait these days. Best all around fish catcher produced.
Why would you fish a brush hog over a lizard?
You haven't lived until you neko rig a brush hog....
When there's brush? Kidding. Whenever the fook you want to.
