    Thanks for the review! You're the first out of the gate with XE20, at least English speaking. The features that the XE20 lack are disappointing and stand out. No pitch bend or mod wheel, plastic shiny keys, cloth speaker grill (dust and hair magnet), 64 note polyphony (Really? A PX-s3000 has 192 Polyphony), a low res screen, and a propriety sustain pedal plug. Also the 1/8" headphone jacks turns my mood ring black, what is this a Sony Walkman? I would pay more for a pitch bend, textured keys, greater polyphony, color screen, and 1/4" Headphone Jack. The cloth speaker grill may be for audio design, and the propriety sustain pedal I could live with that. Makes my KB buying decisions difficult. Korg is a very good company. I'm thinking in near future, either we'll see an "XE30" upgraded model, a competitor will come out with something that will offer these missing items, or Casio will fix their keybed issues, put the guts of a PX-s3000 in a Standard higher quality Keybed. Good job on the overview of this much awaited Keyboard. You Da Man!!

  • @1csmellon
    @1csmellon 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Agree with the comments about no pitch bend or mod control. Probably a design decision. Which of the layers are controlled? What does the arranger do when you lift your left hand? I was thinking about using an external midi keyboard, but the left hand is still missing for the arranger. What about using something like Geoshred as a midi controller - you get notes and modulation and pitch bend all at once by sliding or wiggling your finger on the note you want? Kind of like a poor mans Linnstrument. Just a thought.

    I have just discovered this fun video. Well done Jeremy!
    I don't think half pedalling works well on DPs unless the pedal is very stable, as in say, a triple pedal unit.
    I do appreciate having onboard recording. I simply don't have time to fumble about with devices every time I want to record or retrieve a bassline of whatever. Accordingly, my DPs simple 2-track recording and USB memory stick port have revolutionised my practising. I only wish there were 3 or 4 tracks available, plus some sax and violin patches.

    Finally Korg released an arranger with weighted keys. It feels like it'll offer some competition against Casio's PX series.
    I hate the fabric speaker covers too especially since we have pets around.
    Sound quality and styles sound way better than the Casio. Though the proprietary pedal jack kills it for me (it's also the reason why I picked P125 over the B2).
    i don't mind the missing pitch bend and modulation wheel though i expect it to be in a higher model.

    Jeremy, this is an interesting new product. I'm not sure, but I think there may be only a small number of piano/arranger keyboards that have the full 88 notes - not at least in this price range. It addresses a few of the issues of the competing Casio PX-S3000, but fallen short in not including pitch-bend etc facilities. To me, the styles appeared significantly inferior to Yamaha's keyboards (I'm trying not to be biased) but it's great advantage is the 88-note keyboard - a must for anyone who wants a realistic and practical piano available as well as useful arranger features. You mention the tri-pedal unit but don't say whether this keyboard can accommodate one. Does Korg have one available or is it only Casio? To anyone who wants good piano facilities, the 3-pedal unit is an almost essential addition (but at a cost) as it brings the three pedals found on good pianos. Will be interesting to see how this model fares on the market. Hope all is well with you Jeremy - you looked a bit drawn when you were playing.

    • @JeremySee
      @JeremySee  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Sharp observation Brian. 👍 you can get a tripedal unit from Korg. Alternatively, the XE20-SP comes with full wooden cabinet and triple pedal right out of the box. Thanks for asking. This video too me 3 days to script, film, edit... Tired. Resting now. Good to hear from you, my friend.

    Hi Jeremy, thanks for all these great videos. I have a Roland FP80 which I've had for about 10 years (and is now discontinued) and I was thinking about upgrading to the Korg XE20, mainly for the styles as the styles/accompaniments on the Roland are very dated, although the Piano sounds great. What do you reckon, would it be an upgrade, would the piano offer the same quality, would the speakers be as good etc (sorry this is assuming you've used a Roland FP80). Thanks for any advice.

Part of the reason I went for this because of the older Japanese build quality. I'm a been picking up some old music books including Deep Purple because the last one I had I took to my buddies house and I never got it back.lol It was actually quite a good book that's why he borrowed it. I was glad to see you do a little jamming in this video I love all music i'm more of a guitars but I figure it's time to get serious with some kind of workstation set up. I'm in Pennsylvania USA in on the frayed it's going to be alone long hard with her this year. I'm also hoping to build some guitars and do some guitar Luthering as time permits. I'm starting to get excited this is my fun. I just got a little cannon blogger camera for making videos too. these companies should have you as a beta tester because you do really good comparison videos you always have the information exactly what I'm trying to find out thanks Rob

      😬 my videos will be ad-free when someone sponsors the 3 day effort it takes to thoroughly review, script, film, edit, the video. And also the $750 USD it cost for me to buy this piano so I can review it.
      Perhaps you know someone who can sponsor me and have no ads on my videos for you? 😉
      Better still if someone else, who isn't a shop trying to sell you a piano, starts an ad-free channel and I can stop making videos and sip Pina Colada at the beach instead. 😬

      @gotopcpanik 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think you should put your ads in the beginning or at the end. To interrupt the content will interrupt me from watching your videos till the end or watching them in the future. That is no bad meaning, I‘ll totally unerstand your point, you‘ll have to create money with the content. But if more and more viewers feel distracted by the interruption and very intrusive way of advertising you startet in the last weeks, you‘ll maybe loose viewers. The viewers you wish to pay for your effort and work.
      Just my personal meaning.

    I like the sound or sounds in this instrument as compared to the Yamaha DGX, but the keybed seems to be poor quality according to two reviews on Sweetwater. It's a lot lighter than the DGX. All that said, you still consider the Yamaha the best.

    • @stanstuckey5540
      @stanstuckey5540 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Please clarify about the key bed: I am interested in th DGX 670 and the Korg EX 20 and the deciding factor might be the key action. Since there are no demo products to try in my area, can you comment on the action? The 660, for instance, seems sluggish and heavy to me. I suppose the 670 is the same. Does the Korg have a lighter action?

    I don't like fabric-covered speakers because they are susceptible to tearing, the small tear will grow over time, and it easily accumulates dust. But they are good from moist and water drops.

    How do you compare this to the CDPS350 (maybe also the px s3000) as well? I assume that these are all arranger-ish keyboards? Wondering which is the best 88 key arranger keyboard that you think is out in the market now!

    Hey Jeremy, Great review as akways. Any editability of the patches? The Casio PX s3000 has incredible bang-for-the-buck in that department.
    Are you as put off by the casio's keybed as that other guy is? It really doesn't bother me. Is the Korg playability that much better to you as compared to the Casio PX s3000?

    • @JeremySee
      @JeremySee  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      PX-S key action doesn't bother me at all. In fact, I made an updated video about it few weeks ago. th-cam.com/video/766033-JTLU/w-d-xo.html
      Patches are editable, but to a lesser extent compared to the Casio. Playability wise, I personally prefer the action on the Korg XE20.

    Missed opportunity by Korg ( pa 50 engine with no editing).
    Dgx670 is crushing it ( SFf fike upload, 10,000 Free Yamaha styles, style writing , better piano sounds, SA voices, etc).
    Korg Havian ( pa300) even it’s old and discontinued can be competitive.
    I still love that Triton sounds but , Pa 80’s ( busy styles/jumpy fills added with lack of editing, not so much).
    Weight is the only good thing here. If dgx670 is 1200, xe20 can survive.
    But with Yamaha’s competitive pricing ( with thousands of usable free styles and SA voices and mic input/ vocals efx), I feel bad for sub 800 Casios/ Korgs.

    Interesting keyboard. Display, connector and glossy keys are minor when compared to things like the action and the sound. Only problem for me in this video, is my problem. Adult Contemporary music is a bit like nails on a chalkboard to me. Also 64 notes polyphony, not impressed for a keyboard of that price
