You gotta think, Arrax, Luke’s dragon, is young and senses that his rider is terrified and Arrax wanted to defend him. Vhagar is a war dragon so it was only natural that Vhagar doesn’t understand that Aemond was just pulling Luke’s leg. It’s like Viserys said “It’s an illusion that the Targaryen’s control their dragons.” Both dragons acted on impulse and this was the result

What you don't see in the show . . . that baby was deformed as shit (in the book). A tail and other baby dragon features. Naaaaaaasty.
The baby was born a dragon in the books. It wasn’t gonna survive.
The fact that Viscerys never told Daemon about the prophecy shows that he never actually considered Daemon to be his heir. Before Rhaenrya's birth, Daemon would've been Viscerys' heir, meaning he should have told him what was on that dagger. Daemon took it out on Rhaenrya when he realized this.
Yeah, some people have said that Daemon was his heir for like 10 years prior to her being heir... So the fact that he wasn't told the story within all those years is very significant.
If the death of her father, the loss of her baby and the theft of her throne didn't get her wound up for war, the death of her second born child in the hands of a person who repeatedly kept trying to hurt him, literally strikes the match of full-on war and I'm here for it.
Luke was her BABY 😢, she's always holding his hand and is always so affectionate with him. This doesn't just push her over the edge, it sends her spiraling to the point where the rest of her morality gets thrown out of the window
Rhaenyra was always female version of Daemon but she always tried to suppress that part once Viserys burdened her with the prophecy and also knowing why Viserys hated Daemon’s gut so she laid low and it’s also why even after the death of Viserys and Visenya she didn’t lose her shit and continued to care more about the realm for the upcoming war in winter through north that’s why Daemon chocked her cause she was being a people pleaser like his brother which cost him his life. Luce’s death not only cross the edge but throws away that final part of Viserys that Rhaenyra was keeping inside her (in short her morality) and fully embraced her chaotic dragon persona.

I love that you guys brought up Rhaenyra's approach as a mother, because it really is a contrast compared to Alicent. But with that being said, it's also very cyclical. Viserys loved his daughter so much and made that love quite evident with his undying loyalty and sense of protection for her. This is then mirrored by how Rhaenyra is as a mother now- very loving, affectionate and protective of her own kids. Otto on the other hand was driven more by his ambition; he pushed his underaged daughter to be the Kings consort to secure power, forced her to have kids at such a young age, only ever cared about her status as a new queen rather than checking up on her as a father figure and he never has anything encouraging to say and only ever encourages her paranoia and hatred against team black. Naturally, she ends up treating her kids the same- as if they're just pawns in the a game because that's how she's also been raised ... it's just sad
Vhagar is a war dragon she was there during Aegons conquest. Aemond is an idiot for playing around like that.
You would think with someone who learned that history and studied as he claimed, playing around with Vhagar was not a smart thing to do.

I love that they show how gory all the childbirths are. Shows that the women shed way more blood for the crown than any of the men and have nothing to show for it.
Exactly. I've seen a couple of other reaction vids and men are always totally grossed out/shocked and women are like "yup, it do be like that".

Also I'm a little mad that a lot of people are like "there's too many birth scenes and they're too graphic", like I don't see anyone complaining in the battle scenes and how gory they are, I like how they showed realistic birth scenes and I don't think it was too many, all of them had a purpose
@@anabrito2582 I mean the gore in most battle scenes is instant and we move on, we don't experience the pain for long with each death, specially if we care about the dying character (that's why the red wedding is traumatizing) so yes i hope for less children to be born in season 2

Severe pain & greif losing father & daughter.
Momentary hope and relief being crowned Queen 🤷♀️
Anxiety and disappointment having to face the greens and go up against her former bff and half brother.
RAGE losing her sweet son Luke.
She tried to remain fair inspite of the chaos but that last one is gonna push her over the edge.

I agree, this season was one of the best GoT seasons ever. Loved the story-telling and all the actors were superb - most of all Paddy Considine (King Viserys). His range was everything!
With the death of Prince Lucerys so ended the war of ravens and envoys, and the war of blood and fire began
shes between 25-30 weeks. the umbilical cord was wrapped around the babys neck in the middle of her term it was inevitable the baby had passed
it was also deformed with dragon like features, just like danaerys‘. it was never gonna live
An added dimension to Rhaenyra's guilt: when she was Luke's age her dad Viserys strictly forbade her from riding Cyrax to potentially dangerous situations. She wanted to intimidate the Triarchy with dragonriders and Viserys said no. She only retrieved Dreamfyre's egg by disobeying Viserys but that standoff could've ended badly because Caraxes was there. Teen Rhaenyra hated it but Viserys kept her safe.
But by doing the opposite of her dad and believing in a 14 year old a bit too much she put him in danger and indirectly got him killed.
How that must hurt.
Good catch, the show seems to do a lot of parallels like this. It's also very tragic how Luke's brother was the one to suggest using the dragon riders in the first place rather than the ravens. Going to be very hard on him as well, when it was his idea.
Right, and one of Jace's last interactions with him was pummeling the shit out of him during swordfight lessons. So roughly that their instructor even pointed that out. Being knocked to the ground so easily could've given Luke a chip on his shoulder to "be brave" and steeled his resolve to deliver the message even after spotting Vhagar outside Storm's End. Putting his car in reverse and dipping like a craven would've reminded him of the helpless child lying on the beach sand in defeat.
@@lukefox01 for which Jace was right cause sadly that was the only way they could reach to the lords on time cause they already lost time with Aegon already crowned king to Rhaenys escaping and telling them news to Rhaenyra giving birth and later the death of their infant sister Visenya Targaryen. In books I’m sure this whole process took one week and more days. Even if Jace himself went to Baratheons then also I think, one of Rhaenyra’s kid sure was going to die. Dragons are not ‘taming’ animals they’re individuals with pride of their own. This whole situation is tragic.
Paddy and the actor who played Otto did amazingly well. But to be honest, everyone killed it.
It’s so true and I hate to admit how good Otto was because I hated him, but that goes to show how good his acting was

Even Geroge RR Martin himself said he liks his portrayal of king Viserys more than the one he created for the books. That's G level acting right there. I award the award to Paddy, but my favorite character has got to be Rhaenys. She had hands down THE BEST lines in the entire show, and the most presence next to Aemmond and Daemon

Daemon choked Raynera cause he was offended that his brother never told him this secret. Pretty much means Viserys never planned on making his brother heir. He only named him as his heir until he had a son then he named Raynera heir out of spite cause of what he said about Baelon in the 1st episode “The Heir for a day”.

Reminder that Aemond was a 20 year old man who chose to bully a 13 year old child over something that really only happened because of his own self. Not only that but he used a 100+ year old, battle-tested, warrior dragon- the biggest of it's kind in this generation, against a young baby dragon that's not really that much older than it's master. Luke and Arrax were extremely young and inexperienced and it breaks my heart to think how terrified they must have been. He just wanted to get back to his family 😢

The sad thing is Luke was sent to Storm's End as the easy task as it was closer to Dragonstone. The ending is what actually starts the Dance of the Dragons.
In the book (which is written by unreliable narrators), it's implied that Aemond meant to kill Luke, but I actually like that they made it into an accident. There's something more gripping about dragons themselves actually starting the dance of the dragons and the ultimate downfall of the Targaryens

Have to admit the dragons are exceptionally well made in HOTD , the soundtracks in the episode, the gory dragon fighting, the acting, ALL phenomenal, that last long single shot was a perfect ending to the season with my respect to opinions that it wasn't a strong enough ending considering the year and a half of wait, which yeah i agree but regardless there is no doubt this is a beautifully made episode.

A crown would have added a perfect final touch to that phenomenal last one take shot, she was in a counsel meeting discussing war strategies she wasn't in her bed chambers so technically when she got the news she got them as both a mother and a queen at war. the crown would have given royal fire and blood impression and her facial expressions and eyes would have given motherly wrath so it would have added to the power of the moment and shot composition and been an indication it's not only a mother that is angry now it's a Queen as well. I honestly was never a fan of Rhaenyra's political decisions this episode confirmed my suspicions, the high towers aren't safe, i still can't believe she just sent the kids there case in point they already made a deal with the greens before Luce got there which was relatively fast so they didn't even consider being loyal to her until she made a huge offering that's something was to be expected the Heirs should have never been involved in the initial plan especially that they went as the high tower lord said empty handed like send him a dragon egg or something not that it would have mattered much as Aemond didn't exactly care and took it literally as to not hurt him indoors and taunted him knowing the difference in dragon sizes clearly a dragon is not a slave they never had absolute control over them you'd think that's a given apparently not and not an Heir is dead ironically enough Daemon had to say I prefer to feed my son's to the Dragons which is basically what happened to luce and the queen has to deal with a loss of two children to the greens and the guilt of knowing she sent her son to die because she didn't want to draw first blood. I say that was already done the min her new born was delivered dead out of stress because she had to flee traitors. but she wanted to follow her dad's footsteps unfortunately wasn't well thought out because i doubt her father would have thought sending the heirs themselves to carry on a task of a raven was a smart idea. I honestly feel like the writers forced this narrative that a woman in power can't see the whole picture and only sees certain angles a mother in reality would have never just sent her son's off after she just lost one and those are not just any sons they are the Targaryen heirs not realistic even for GOT plots reminds me of the original series when Jon and the fellas all went beyond the wall to capture a single walker and got a dragon killed for no damn reason and then they thought saying you had to see it to know would make it logical lol , the writers piss me off , GRRM is fascinated by the Targaryens but hates them deep down and has abit of misogynistic outlook on women especially those in power. their a serious lack of real depth and complexity not to mention understanding to how it is to be a woman a mother or a queen. as we all know by now a dragon is not a slave they never had absolute control over the dragons you'd think they already know that at least know the difference in dragon sizes and how they can get easily aggravated. Aemond's unfounded ego and eagerness for revenge is his down fall. the high towers, Aemon and his dragon all done. i bet Daemon will take on Aemon and Rhaenyra will start with the towers she won't care if it happened indoor or not :p

Nah, he survive the fall then lost his memory because of it. Then he fall in love with fisherman's daughter that saved him. They live as commonfolk after that, happily ever after.
The dragon that Daemon is singing to (a Valyrian lullaby for dragons) is Vermithor, one of the largest dragons alive. Vermithor was ridden by the great King Jaehaerys I, Daemon's grandfather, bonded to him since Vermithor was an egg placed the in infant Jaehaerys' cradle. Vermithor is also called The Bronze Fury. He has been nesting in the caverns of Dragonstone since Jaehaerys' death. Daemon's song to Vermithor was sort of a wake-up call to prepare the great dragon for getting a new rider soon. (not Daemon; Daemon and Caraxes have each other, one rider has one dragon until one or the other dies)
No only ate the 4 kids step-siblings & betrothed, the girls are also first cousin with Rhaenrya and first cousins twice removed with Rhanerya 😂😂

@@sugher4749 i wonder how they're going to tackle introducing daeron into the show in season 2.... They don't mentioned him whatsoever in season 1, except on the intro. Even that, it's very vague, people who don't understand the intro might not catch that. And for non-book readers might get put off if they just bring up daeron out of nowhere in season 2. I feel like at first they actually decided to cut daeron off the show then make decision to include him in season 2 much more later after the production was done. Hence they can only show us in the intro without having additional scene to be shot.

In the book it is described that Rhaenyra spent 3 days suffering the birth of her daughter Visenya and she was born dead and was deformed, twisted, had a hole in her chest where the heart was supposed to be and had a dragon tail with scales.

....Rhaenys just stays telling everyone bad news. Viserys is dead. You lost the throne. Your bro is dead. As for telling the Snake King and Princess Rhaenys that their son is alive, it would be a bigger issues than having them think he's dead. As you recall, the ONLY way she can be married to Daemon is if he is (believed to be) dead. If he is alive, their marriage is no longer legal, the children are declared bastards, etc, etc. Let them be sad/upset. At the end of the day they still showed their support, to Rhaenerya, so she's fine.

Agree with you guys, this show is just amazing. I can't help but to compare it with GoT. After the pilot, I thought GoT delivered a more impactful pilot with all the shocking scenes. Even until eps 3 I feel like I still prefer GoT because they have more complex storylines with so many characters. But then week after week HOTD just k!lled it. I love how they delivered so much tensions through its quiet moments like Laena's funeral, the last dinner, and the aftermath of the King's death when everyone were scheming & plotting on what to do. Like you can feel all the tension & bottled emotions that are ready to explode when the King's gone. Damn, even Daemon had many scenes with no or little dialogue that are just so powerful. I'm just obsessed!

Rhaenyra was Never the objective of Alicent attack.
Alicent grabbed Cat's Claw and ran to attack Lucerys intent on taking His eye and Rhaenyra stepped into Alicent's path, grabbed and held Alicent's wrist holding the knive thereby stopping the advance towards Lucery.
When Alicent realized her poor decision (made in angry at the believed unfairness) snapped back to reality and all of the implications of her action; wearily dropped her arm Inadvertently cutting Rhaenyra.
Daemon was Holdin the Crab nigga Arm with GreyScale and Suffered ZERO consequences. Mans is OP!!

G.R.R.Martin stated that dragon riders with bonded dragons have a very deep connection the dragon can sense when their rider is mad, scared, in pain, and happy which explains why Arrax attacked Vhagar he sensed luce was scared off Daemon/Vhagar. And “tried” to protect him the only way a dragon knows how to. They somewhat show it though out the season when rhynerys is giving birth they show flashes of Syrax in pain, when daemon is on the steps of dragonstone and when he is questioning the KingsGuard, when leana ask Vhagar to dracrys her. So that being said Vhagar could sense Daemons hatred of lucerys and when Arrax attacks that was all the “go ahead” Vhagar needed.
Aemond does regret it but he’s probably gonna own it! Otto is gonna say, we still got the biggest dragon and we’ve taken one of theirs and a rider. Alicent will ring her hands but I don’t see anyone else caring 🤷🏾♀️. This is war!
Aemond has no choice. He can't tell people he lost control of his dragon. The Targaryens are seen as special because of them. I've not read the books though.

@@Stephie_L I’ve read the books and it honestly doesn’t make a difference to me, I see them as two different ways of telling a story. It baffles me when people get so bent out of shape about the differences and tell you your opinion is wrong because of it 🤔🤣🤣. Hope you enjoyed it as much as I did.

I have found this season of House of the Dragon to be more compelling and more watchable than any season of Game of Thrones. Possibly because there are less brothel scenes, less rapes, the plot is more tightly focussed on one House and there's more human drama and thankfully no ice zombies. I definitely agree that Paddy Considine as King Viserys was the MVP performance of the season and deserves an Emmy. My favorite characters are the Velaryons - Lord Corlys and Princess Rhaenys (the Queen Who Should Have Been).
Really looking forward to seeing the old families in the next season. Bow to your king! Bow ya shits!
