Mike I can't tell you how much I appreciate an old school mason sharing their knowledge and how much I've learned. Your videos are spot on and helped me to redo some work on my 1950's era house with some confidence and great results. Since I can't even hardly find a mason in my area that will take small jobs your videos were an amazing help.

Mike, I found a long term solution to driveway cracks. A few years ago I experimented with flexible floor patch. It's a latex patch that they use under vinyl flooring. DAP makes it. It is slightly sanded and a beige grey color so matches old concrete well. Its not made for driveways but it has held up very well for me. It comes in a 1 qt tub premixed for under $10 and you can work it and sponge it just like caulk. It's about the consistency of spackle out of the tub. It remains slightly flexable after it dries but firm enough that you.can do large voids.

I'm curious, too. Please provide product name when you have it.

    • @joeydueceable
      @joeydueceable 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

It's called "dap flexible floor patch and leveler" it comes premixed in 32 oz tubs for about $10. It applies like a sticky, spackel like mixture. It can be wiped smooth with sponge. I patched all of my cracks before painting with driveway concrete paint. It has held up very well. When I previously patched the cracks with regular cement it cracked again within a month.

I've pressure washed and sealed surfaces for 35 years. I maintained an exposed ag and plain cement patterned driveway (33,000 square ft!) for two decades. At first I used silicone for cracks in the exposed ag. As the drive worsened I changed my method...pea gravel and epoxy pudding into the large gaps and silicone over the top when cured...Not concrete per se, but just a tip.

If the caulk is to protect the crack from water getting the concrete patch and busting it up again, why isn't a thin film of caulk sprayed onto the surface of new driveways somehow? Always love your vids giving me food for thought. Thanks, take care and stay safe.

I have been wondering for the last couple of years what I can do to repair cracks in my exposed aggregate concrete driveway, but I have not been able to find on-line repairs for aggregate concrete. The cracking is becoming worse over time, with cracks increasing in size and starting to show some level changes. What can I to to repair cracks in my aggregate concrete driveway? As we approach the cold and wet days of winter, the weather conditions creates challenges to find nice days to repair the cracks.

Hi, We have smaller cracks in our driveway. This method might be a little difficult to get it all in there. Do you recommend a different method for smaller cracks? The Home Depot guy recommended Sika crack flex sealant (but when I watched the video it said horizontal cracks only?), the guy at the lumber store recommended Sika Self leveling sealant. Not sure who to believe? Just don't want to make things worse. Also, our driveway isn't quite the same material. It has lots of little rocks in it not sure what you call it, aggregate maybe? Thanks

Great content as always!!!! I was wondering where someone can learn how to lay brick? Is there such a place like a school? Someone may say just to work for somebody to do that but, I have a job but I’m also very interested in learning! Please Mike if you could possibly respond my questions ... thank you in advance!!

Hi J C, brickwork is a dying thing, everything is getting premade or fake stone, it good to know but it's on the job you learn, frost and footers are the big concern, I don't know what to tell you. Repairs and concrete is what is happening now, thanks Mike

This has to be my absolute favorite masonry video.
Your first dry mix pack looks already mind blowing good.
Then you sprinkle the Portland and mist it; blends it so nice !
A few weeks ago, I used a similar concrete caulk. I hate to admit I didn't do the Portland finish step.
It looks half decent on dry days, but all the scars scream through whenever it gets wet &/or rains.
Even good old school Portland paint will not properly cover the cured, unsanded silicone caulk.
    There's always next year 😆

@@MikeHaduck I think I get it. The cement fills the void and the caulk seals it so water can't infiltrate, freeze and split it out. Don't really see why a bad winter would affect it. Maybe, the ground beneath the repair heaving?

That is going to fail so quickly. It should be ground out with diamond blade or wire brush and install a flexible sealant. That joint obviously moves and the new concrete patch is going to crack apart. This will fail in a few years when a quality caulk repair would last 10yrs easy
