You're the "Bob Ross" of concrete, haha! I've watched lots of videos about repairing concrete because our porch needs some patching, and I don't want to pay thousands of dollars to have it jackhammered, which is what most local companies want to do. This was the best, by far! I'm ready to tackle my little porch! I was an art teacher for many years, and have been doing home projects since I was 20. This will be a new one to try.

I love the old-school technique as they do last longer than modern stuff in construction and cost less when you are trying to budge. I agree that cemented on its own is a bonding agent when activated with water but you really do need to keep on top of things when you're doing it yourselves. My late father taught me old-school techniques in construction and I still use them today at my own home. Great video thank you as it is always good to see old school techniques used in DIY it also saves you hundreds of $$$$$/£££££.

Great video Mike. Well, I'm done for the season. I accomplished a lot thanks to you and your knowledge. It was a long 6 months. Worth it though. A few hiccups, some blood, sweat and tears but all and all it worked out well. I'll pick up in March of next year, God willing. This video will come in handy when I strip the large patio deck - next year. The pitting isn't as bad as what you repaired but not great. About 4 layers of old chipping paint too. Hope you're well, and I'll keep on watchin'. Have a safe winter.

Non-shrink grout will outlast the pavement around it, and it's super solid. There's a structural epoxy, and that in combination with the structural grout is very hard to destroy. You just have to keep it wet while it cures with a wet towel over the top. I patched my garage with it, and it's great. Just my additional two cents.

Thru the whole video I was thinking what you finally said at the end -“A patch is a patch is a patch..” So true. Patching concrete is a real art. I was never much of a patch man myself, but when I found a good one, I would hang on to him, whatever it took! Sometimes I would have to pay a good patch man as much as I paid lead carpenters. They’re hard to find..

In our community...our city council is requiring citizens to repair the pedestrian sidewalks in front of their homes or they will be charged $100 per pad to have the city repair. Due diligence is called for and this helps fit the bill. The sad part about needing to repair the sidewalks is that the neighborhood builders...probably at the behest of the city, planted bradford pear trees between the sidewalk and the curbs for curb appeal. When fully grown, their roots ultimately moved sidewalks from their level positions cracking some of them in the process.

I'm not sure if you agree but, fixing up 2x18ish~ ramp/driveway off of my garage, my plan(already started) using essentially this method to resurface(used a concrete saw to split it off the main section that is the slab for the garage) and than paint it over with tar based sealer; optimally I'd love to break the ramp section up and replace it with asphalt for the same reasons you outlined, think for outdoor use it's the better option, weather just ruins it(Winterpeg, Manitoba, Canada)

Love your videos! We had patches done 5 years ago where the concrete came out at each rebar connecting the driveway to the foundation. It also happened where the front porch meets the sidewalk. Well, the money we paid was useless because they have ALL come loose again. Do you have any recommendations on how to keep the concrete at connection. Would you drill a bolt lower? One of my neighbors said that they thought the rebar was too high & that's why we had chunks come out at each connection. We might try doing it ourselves after watching your video, but want to make sure we don't need to do anything else. Thank you so much!

    • @MikeHaduck

Hi ensign. These bonding agents are a new thing, and they have there place, and sometimes I will add it to a slurry, but rapid set drys too fast to use it in my opinion, thanks mike

Important request. We have older model home in Houston. MBR 2-sink cabinet on ground floor is leaching moisture up through slab, which attracts bugs and rot. Is there any product I can seal top of slab (under cabinet) to stop moisture from protruding upward? Wood cabinet is built above spot (about 3’x6’ area). Thanks!!

@@MikeHaduck Thanks Mike!! I am planning to visit Sherwin Williams first and then Lowe’s. And yes, I do believe I need drains to feed the gutter drainage to the street instead of under my foundation. House and backyard are about 3 feet above street.

why do you have to wet the cement surfaces in order to stick? What if you have dry surface but cleaned out of any dust? Will it stick? What's the real reason behind wetting? Is it some chemistry?
