    I had a very accomplished shooter who told me that a 410 was an experts shotgun not a novice shotgun. Given his levell of skill & expertise i wholey agree with him!

      if you showed up at a quail hunt in my family with anything bigger than a 410 you were shunned . The younger shooters were allowed to use a 28ga, and whatever you do don’t show up with a semi auto or pump gun.

    I am 79 years old and have shot a 410 at game since I was thirteen and shoot the same average number of birds as I do with my 12 bores going down to 28 bores, I love the 410 to bits.

    My double barrel 410 has accounted for hundreds of rabbits over the years. Squirrels too . I started shooting a 410 when I was 8 years old and today at 71 I still love to rabbit hunt and the 410 is my choice of gun for them . I shoot my 20 gauge in the duck blind and a 12 gauge at deer. My favorite skeet gun is my Winchester 101 over and under in 12 gauge .

    Hey David,
    I bought a Baikal (Russian) .410 bore O/U several years ago with fixed chokes because it really was intended to be used in the field. This shotgun weighs in at 7.2 lbs and “swings” much like a larger bore gun. I have shot it several times here on a sporting clays course and it does nicely with target presentations with sub-gauge in mind.

    I carried a .410 as often as I did a single shot .22 as a kid stomping around through the woods. Which usually depended on what i had the most ammo I had on for at the time.

    Nice video. - Been shooting .410 competitively for Skeet and Trap for many years... along with all the other gauges. I LOVE the .410 !! Have several Brownings; some new and some quite old. Wonderful guns for any gauge, but as I get older that light recoil really helps keep it fun!

    a quality 410 is a great companion to a 20 gauge especially if they have the same size frame. They also are increasing in value even faster than larger gauges. At least in the US.

    I bought a .410 Yildiz side by side a few years ago, and I couldn't miss with it, even on longer targets. Unfortunately, those early guns were recalled, and the replacement gun was OK, but it didn't have the magic of the first one. They absolutely brilliant value for money, and there's nothing more satisfying than hitting a difficult clay with a .410. I recently bought an old Norica 3 shot bolt action for £30, and I've had lots of fun with it, and even hit a 45 yard crosser, which I missed with a 12 bore.

    My review, I bought this for my grandson to learn on squirrel and rabbits so weight and recoil go hand in hand. Right on the money, fit and fun,, right on, ease to disassemble and clean, right on, easy on the eyes, fair price on budget. The only knock is no removable chokes. The case could be much more form fitted to avoid rubbing.

    In the USA, the .410 is often considered a defensive round, especially loaded with OOO buckshot shot in one of the specialized revolvers on the market. Personally, I get great accuracy shooting Brenneke slugs out of my iron sighted Henry action...

    .410s are great fun. The ammo is a bit expensive, but I handload for them.
    I don't recommend .410s for beginners. I started my sons with 20 ga. handloads using 3/4 oz. of shot...a 28 ga. loading in a 20 ga. hull.
    I consider .410s better for experienced shooters. I generally use 2-1/2" shells with 1/2 oz. of shot
    Bettinsoli suggested retail price of the X-Trail in the USA is $1999.00
    Yildiz is less than half the price.

    As a couple with worn out shoulders my wife and I both have stepped down/up to a 410 for shooting clays and home defense. Reloading makes it inexpensive. Per round it is 17 cents for birdshot, 37 cents for buckshot.

    .410 3½ " shot shells ? . they are available in 2" 2½ and 3" Cutting down the stock on guns like these to fit a smaller child , and the stock can be lengthened as the child grows . This will not hurt its value if it is properly done , as there is a ready market for child sized guns . Also remember .410 2½" is used in 4 caliber skeet shooting ,

    @davidtaylor2054 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I think there's a lot more to be said about cartridges and loads. A 410 throws a long string of shot that quickly degrades with range. At 30 metres you're going to have a ragged pattern with lots of holes in it - unless you increase the number of pellets. No 7 shot seems to be the smallest available in commercial loads, but No 9 would give a denser pattern. Even the best shot can't guarantee that a 410 load of No 6 pellets will kill cleanly beyond 30m, so I say stick to short range and use the smallest pellets possible!

    • @charlessmith4242
      @charlessmith4242 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      * Better to stick to short range, but use large enough size pellets to insure there is enough energy to make a clean kill. Adjust the choke constriction to place more pellets in your pattern.

    Might have a look now for a .410 , don’t have clue where I’m going to shoot it at the moment . I recently ish had a fun shoot with my pump action 12 gauge savage stephens 77f with fixed open choke . Not really a clay gun but I saw it in a rack at Henry Kranks and it spoke to me so I bought it . I struggled at long going away shots but it rocked at rabbits and high coming to me shots . Any tips , I would love to see you give a pump a try and give some tips please or would etiquette not allow . I usually shoot a Miroku mk38 trap in 12 gauge , a Miroku ORE in 12 gauge , a Webley and Scott 12 gauge or a Hatsan Escort Super Magnum semi auto in 12 gauge . I usually shoot English Sporting clays . Fed up with the lockdown and looking forward to the grounds opening up again . Hope your all fairing well and I suppose we all have to weather out this storm . Stay safe and than you for another great video .

      My friendly club has fallen in the pandemic unfortunately. My O/U and semi 12g get hardly used now... 12g pump, 410 pump and 410 under lever make skeet a lot more interesting :-) No marksman, typically 22 plus with semi. But my biggest smile was 18 with an under lever 410. Lighter, no kick, 200 carts weigh almost nothing.

    Really nice to see a review of 410’s. I’ve often thought I’d like to try a SxS in this gauge. If you shoot within its limitations and use plenty of field craft they can be remarkably effective and fun to use around the farm. My only concern is where they’ll stand when lead is phased out and steel is the only viable alternative. ?

    When I was 10, my Dad would take me quail hunting and a Winchester model 42 with a 28" barrel worked great. A lot harder to hit the birds with this compared to the 16 or 12 gauge. I dad would say when you get good with that then you can go up to the 16 gauge. He grew up in the 1930's so for him growing up if you when hunting if you wasted ammo, you got sent to the wood shed. So you'd make your shots count. But when I got to where I could make my shots on the clay's it was really easy when I was ready for the bigger gauges.

    Not really a fair comparison between makers… the Yildiz with a adult stock (which is available) is a very good gun for keeping. If you are moving feed sacks and water across fields and want to take a gun along for pest control a light 410 is a sensible choice.

    A “TOY” good grief what will you come out with next!
    A 410 is a shotgun that carries a lighter load for when you require less shot and don’t want to blow the sh.. out of something.
    Ballistics wise and down range energy of pellet at 1300 to 1400fps is the same regardless of gauge what differs is the weight of shot being sent.
    The younger generation have always started with them as there is less weight, recoil etc. As my son did.

    There is a some incorrect information in this presentation. David referred to the .410 as a "toy", a shotgun is certainly NOT a toy.
    This is not what a young person needs to hear, a toy gun is something that you can buy of the shelf in Tesco.
    Also regarding the misinformation, to my knowledge there is not a 3.5 inch cartridge available for the .410 shotgun.

    .410 is on average 25$ a box here in USA. Think about that before making this your dedicated gun unless you have plenty of money. Even 28g is cheaper.

    A legitimate gauge to shoot smaller animals like fox or coyote with a 1/4 oz. slug.....At senseable distances , of course.

    Only problem here with the .410 is the availability of the shells. Non existent here in the US. I have three .410 but no ammo to shoot them.

      I happened to be in my local shop. None was out, they had just gotten 1 box in so I snagged it with an order for more!

      I have no problem getting .410 shells. The .410 is getting more popular especially with the Taurus Judge.

    Hi, can anyone tell me if there is a significant difference in noise levels between 20 gauge and .410?

    • @patb5923
      @patb5923 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      More louder, yes but if you have ear protection On. It’s fine. The kick you will not notice much of a difference

    You are giving a price of 800 pounds for the Bettinsoli, but the price I see here in the USA is close to $4000, what gives?

    I bought my Rossi at a gun show for $129.00....and they are not toys. See how many sheets of plywood a slug will go through.
