- The Best Thing You Can Do With A .410
This week Edward heads out to Blyton Shooting Ground with Richard Gray for a master class in .410 shooting ahead of The British Open .410 championship being held at E J Churchills West Wycombe shooting ground
ASI Ltd have very kindly supplied us with a Rizzini BR110 30” .410 for Edward to use and practice with up to the championship
Big thanks to ASI LTD, Hull Cartridge, Blyton Shooting Ground and Richard Gray

Years ago My Dad & i went to buy a .410 from a local gunshop, A row of 15 guns with barrels like stovepipes. One old worn brown webley bolt action but its barrel was perfect, Cost us £15. Had its full choke opened out to 1/2 choke & it was deadly. Had it for years & pulled countless shots off with it that were the equal of any 12 bore. Gave it away to a farmer friend when Dad passed away. He is equally impressed with it.
Greetings, Great story! So like millions of American shooters who started their shooting/hunting experience w/,410 bore, good old tools you kept around for everything! Did not know Webley made bolt actions, bet that old scattergun is still out there getting it done! (BTW, my "starter" was a Mossberg 20ga.) Blsgs, stay safe, enjoy; SY, gg
If my little H&R Topper .410 could tell the stories of how much game, varmints and clays it's taken in the last 50 years, I'd have a book.
I had the same gun when I was 12, back in 1980. A single shot with an auto ejector. nice gun. Sadly, my dad sold it for another gun which he eventually gave to me. But I wish he’d never have gotten rid of that .410.
Thanks Ed for allowing me to share my enthusiasm.
Thank you for being involved, thoroughly enjoyed myself! Looking forward to the British Open .410 Championship
Lovely video I am 81 years of age and I have shot 410 shotguns since I was 13 years of age and I still shoot my 410 at game and clays amongst my other guns.
That’s fantastic, I hoping I’m still shooting in my 80s
Bought a Beretta Silver Pigeon .410 and love it, more than my 12 bore.
I have now shot for about eight seasons at driven game, mostly with Richard Gray and Premier Game days and all of these days with a 410, it is so much fun and Richard is a great companion in the field.
I have my fathers 1942 Stevens - love it !
Videos from the 410 championship is officially requested !! Looking forward to it !!
Keep an eye out towards the end of August, it’s a definite!
What a nice Old Timer!
I've been shooting 12g for 17 year. That was intill I went a got a beretta silver pigeon .410 2 months ago and I love it great fun. I've never had more fun shooting clays. I would love to have a go at the .410 brittish open championship.
Had 2 - 410's many years ago , one was a Ivory Johnson single shot and the other a Stevens double barrel. They counted for a lot of Snipe , Ducks and a few Wild Turkeys. Then moved on to a couple of L.C. Smiths doubles in 20 Ga , one skeet grade and one field grade.
I have 4-.410s.Two pumps,one I bought when I was 15,still have it.A single shot H&R made in the 1920s,and a 22-410 over under. Love them.
Watched his 410 tournaments on You Tube from last year. Great stuff.
I’m really looking forward to it
Blyton my new fav ground! I missed every one over the lake!
I have a saiga in .410, super fun.
The ammo is almost twice the price of 12g in the US though.
Anything the .410 can do, the 20 Gauge can do better, as it's much more versatile. Also, in the States, .410 shells usually cost twice as much as 20 gauges.
Great stuff, I'm on the lookout for a 410👍👍
I can definitely recommend the Rizzini BR110 sporter!
@@roymartingunsmiths814 get the 32 inch barrels to help with your swing.
Smashing fun. I use a little Bretton silenced .410 for roost shooting and shooting near a stables & round the yard. It's quieter than my sub .22 lr. Kills crows out to 35m cleanly with 18gram no.5 subsonics.
Bought a yildits over and under from your dad 5 years ago for my son he's now thirteen and progressing up the calibres but I will never sell his 410 because it's so much fun and the sense of achievement when you break a good clay or take a high bird is thrilling
I can’t agree with you more! The buzz I got from it was amazing
@@roymartingunsmiths814 and it makes you realise how little lead you need to break clays
Had two 410's first was a Remington semi auto which was a lot of fun on skeet but could never adjust it properly so often the first round would not eject properly, then changed to Yeldiz 30" and improved a lot, great fun on skeet and sporting, Had a friend who had a Krieghoff with 12, 20, and 410 barrels he would lend me and a great 410 it was but cartridges were 2 expensive, but then retired from shooting
Just something about .410 bore over-under shotguns..they are so elegant looking. Quite handy too for small game hunting although wing shooting with a .410 bore shotguns is quite challenging what with the light shot load.
With solids the .410 knocks wild boar over very nicely! Lovely calibre!
i’ve had my eye on one of these for a while there one of the best spec’d .410s out there a 32inch would be my choice the length of pull on them is sensible as is the height of comb
Agreed, not too high in the stock and a nice LOP.
Like most that have posted comments I love the 410 and has accounted for a great deal of vermin over the years at the correct range and cartridge for that range and quarry.
There lies the problem with the UK heading towards lead free finding a suitable alternative load for humane dispatch in the smaller calibres.
Steel in the larger pellet sizes even in a 3" rolled crimp with a plastic wad just won't give the pattern density required for reasonable self imposed ranges at live quarry.
Bismuth on the other hand ticks all the boxes apart from the price tag of £1,500-£1,700 per thousand, which sharp mounts up if you're using 3-4k per year.
I've shot nothing but a 28 bore for the last 5 years for driven and walked up reverting back to the 20 and 12 for none toxic use on duck and geese.
Due to the lack of alternative lead free loads from manufacturers for small bores that will provide similar down range ballistics apart for the aforementioned bismuth I can see my small bores been moved to the back of the gun cabinet.
When I contacted eley gamebore and express they all said the same when there is demand they will invest in alternatives for the smaller bores.
Hopefully your and other TH-cam channels that are currently running small bore shows will drive this demand that the manufacturers need 🤞
In the meantime currently trying to put together a 19gram 4 Steel with plas wad together for the 28 bore but will be nowhere near the current 23 and 25 gram 6&5 lead fibre loads I use.
A point very well made! It is something I’m hoping to look towards in the near future as I’m thoroughly enjoying my time spent shooting with the .410
I like the .410 when hunting for larger rattle snakes (which I eat). But for dove or quail wing shooting hunting, I’m really bad with the .410. I avoid the frustration because I want the table fare. So, I switched to a Beretta o/u 28ga for upland game and absolutely love it.
Funny this video came out today as I am shooting my new Orvis/ Arrieta 410 side by side tomorrow at my gun club. Problem here in the US is 410 ammo is scares and expensive. Most of all you can get is the 2 1/2 and impossible to find 3" 410's.
I hope you enjoy it as much as I did! Best of luck
What chokes for sporting clays?
To be fair! I have shot alongside Richard a few years ago on driven birds in Lincolnshire & he does have a tendency to kill everything he points his gun at!!
Are you using 2/34 or 3inch thanks
What a great video, I recently got a webley & Scott 410 (normally shoot a 694) and I'm having a great deal of fun with it, it's just a shame that the cartridges or so much more than 12g.
But it is great fun.
410 is amazing. It's much more satisfying breaking targets with 410 than 12.
100% agree
I am sorry for maybe stupid and random question 😅 i like yours frames. Would you able to tell me the brand please? Also, superb shooting 🔥🔥🔥
great video you both shot well never shot one i will have a go !! pretty guns for sure ,
BTW, that little stack-barrel is sure pretty! Handles nice too. Italian did you say?? SY, gg
I met Richard at the side by side shoot in NC. I'd love to shoot some zz's with him one day.
Very nice gun a 410...
Great video, I’m a great fan of shooting 28 bores and have been considering getting a .410 over and under but I am concerned about what will happen when everyone moves across to steel, what are your thoughts on the future of the .410?
Winchester and Federal both load a 3/8oz ~11gram, Fe6 load @1400fps. It would be great if those were imported or a domestic producer started making something like them. Ballistic Products in the USA has 410 steel load data and TPS steel wads for use in Fiocchi and Cheddite hulls. Those wads are light enough to ship over the pond and currently run 0.081 pence/each. If a gun can shoot it safely, reloads with Fe5 have been working well for closer in, ≤25m, partridge and ducks landing over decoys. Downside is both the Win/Fed loads + BPI TPS wads are all HDPE wads. If Hull or another were to load them, there could finally be some biowad type offering for 410 steel.
It is unsure yet within the UK
Приобретайте 410 калибр!!!В России он тоже популярен!!!
@@NWer-c5uI’ve seen somewhere else that Winchester make a steel load 410 cartridge but very little other information. I’m sure there’s a market for it, the 410 is addictive once you’ve used one and if we get a steel cartridge here in the UK then I’d have no hesitation in upgrading my own little o/u 410 to a Rizzini/Browning.
This was a fantastic watch by the way.
What chokes were you using
I was using Skeet & 1/4 but I would like another 1/4 choke
I’ve always had 410’s in my gun locker and the sad reality is for most of my life you could pick up a box of 12 gauge for a third of the cost of a 410. Now a days 410 iz getting hard to find.
Hi guys. 410 is for fun and chalenge and you have to accept missing sometimes. On my experience, Amo’s speed is the most important (and expensive), speed should be above 1300ft/sec. Im hunting mostly with a rizzini 28 , 30 inchs barrel with fantastic results, i dont use my browning 20 any more…and youre friends using an heavy 12 will be speechless considering your results on ducks and pheasants ..best rgrds from France.
I have the same experience with 12 bore...and airguns...and catapults. Accepting missing that is 🤣
@@ddoherty5956 yep! Didnt use 12 since 20 years..lol. But problem now is lead will be forbiden in UE within 2 years….i will test copper next season…
@@titikalagan3024 we're headed the same way...one world government is great isn't it 🙄
And here I was thinking that this was going to be another
one of those 410 bashing videos.
Pleasantly surprised that this was click bate. Lol!
With good shot placement 410s are just about as effective as most
12 ga shotguns.
Jus my opinion.
Again, pleasantly surprised that the title page was deceptive. (Smile)
Great job.
Staysafe and healthy.
Peace
The 410 and 22lr are my favorite rounds to shoot.
I used to dismiss 410s untill I saw a friend pull a pheasant hen out of the sky at 30m with one. Great vid. What gun is Richard using? I have 410 inserts for my 20, but would love something like the rizzini one day.
Richard was using a 525 Browning elite
Roy, I jumped on your click-bait image ready to put you strait! You did redeem yourself though in the presentation! Great to see the 410 becoming more popular. Find some older side by sides. Here in the states the older 410's are almost unaffordable already! Thanks.
Where was this filmed looks familiar
Maybe a 411 or 412, if one can afford the extra 1 or 2.
Is that poison hemlock I see growing
Thing about 410, The gun has to fit you and you better reload.
You can take my 410 when you pry it from my cold dead hands I only paid £50 for it but iv had it 40 years
А вы знаете что стреляные гильзы от 410 калибра можно собирать и продавать!!!В США или в Австралии их хорошо будут покупать!!!
A 410 has its place. But I don't know where that is, except that lots of young boys have killed a truck load of small game with one and I know it is a great starting gun. Beyond that, I don't see a use for one. But my opinion is only that, and worth nothing at all.
Hi Michael, The place for the 410 is in anyone's hands who enjoys a challenge, I use mine for 90% of my game shooting, sure I miss a few but don't we all. but I love shooting it and that's what's important.
One can now get 410 Tukey loads that do the job very, very nicely.
" . . .and worth nothing at all . . ."
Agreed.

@2:47 Must be nice to have disposably income you can spend $2,000 on a toy.
Jesus, learn to mix audio levels!
Oisin should pay Ratso
The best thing to do with a .410 is to trade it for a 28 bore.
What do Brits know about firearms anyway , they can't be legally own one
🤡
