I gasped when I saw how pristine the inside of this car was, and it was so fun to film. I hope you all enjoy the video as much as I enjoyed making it!
this car is so you! You should totally get it!!!
yes it was fun to, the interior is crazy good
Loved the video Alanis. I remembered it also right away that Princess Diana had this model of car for a while. She sure had great taste this and the R129 Mercedes 500 SL : I absolutely adore mine. I’ll never get rid of it. Nice to know more about the Audi 90 Cabrio thanks to you.
Something about the dark, sturdy plastic, that rich wood trim, the stern design; it really does look like a proper '$80k' car from the 90s.
I have fond memories of these! When they first came out, my dad took elementary school-aged me to an Audi/VW club visit to the DC/VA area parts warehouse. The Audi reps had a brand new red Audi Cabriolet to show us and they had me come push the buttons/roll down the top during their demonstration. Little me thought it was the coolest thing and I’ve loved them ever since 😂
I find this design era, Audi's best, most iconic. Simple, beautiful, timeless.
Luxury sports Cars around this era just looked to similar to me.
A dentist in my area bought one of these new, drove it ten years, thenSold it to his student . He sold it to his hygienist six after that. So it’s been the same parking lot since new. Still looks like new.
Been a fan of Doug for years and when Alanis and Kennan were brought on board I didn't give them a chance. After watching this video, I have to say I like how Alanis drew me in, educated and entertained me. Sorry for doubting you, Alanis.
That is so kind! Thank you
kennan is a nice guy, but he's boring. he gets into details no one cares about. at least alanis is entertaining. that's what it takes not just car knowledge
Kennan is boring AF and is a beta soy boy
She reminds me of that high-school calculus teacher some of us had. We all dreaded that subject, but her delivery was so chipper, she actually made it interesting and we all adored her eventually.
Kennen is not boring!!!
The review taking place under the hotel awning is hilarious! I bet the guests were puzzled at the trunk portion.
It was sooooo chilly
Her sitting in the trunk and the lady sitting in the car next to her is so funny
Great vid. Thank’s for bringing us back to 1997 with you!
Thank you for joining!
This feels like you are cheating on KIA minivans and I don’t like it
Agree
Hahaha Hahaha Hahaha Hahaha
LOL
Don't forget about the Hyundai Venue! She professed a love for that little sh*tbox too. 🤮
See, I knew you were just right!!! I’ve owned five Audis! Car looks dope! Got a 2020 SQ5 now.
Wow, this is really rare car. Amazing
I knew someone with a silver one in 1997. Never see them anymore!
Waited for Doug to do this Cabriolet review and now I am satisfied. I have the same car same year, different color. This car is rare to see without the cold weather packge heated seats and windshield nozzel and also the door locks. Also passanger door does unlock together with the driver's
Our pleasure!
There’s a lot to love on this Audi… including it’s colour. Thanks for another great entertaining video, Ms. King. (btw… I’m sure everyone appreciated you risking the elements to make this video happen). Cheers.
I have a silver '97 with the same interior as this one. Alanis's comments and driving impressions are spot on. My only wish is that Audi had installed an overdrive vs the standard 4-speed. Her comment on the lag between shifts is true. It is slow to accelerate, but once you get to cruising speed, it's smooth and quiet.
Looks gorgeous; such a clean and elegant line, in its simplicity.
Actual color name: Chartreuse. And BTW 80's/90's designs are so much more elegant that what we have now, not to mention much better music
I have a 96 Audi cabriolet one thing I notice is that the steering wheel is not original it looks to be from a more modern Audi. There is no button to unlock the doors but they are powered, you push the lock down on one door and it locks both of them, you open one door to unlock both doors - no reaching required. Mine also has heated seats which I was very surprised to see in a 90s car. Great video!
The steering wheel in this cabriolet is factory. It is the leather trimmer sports wheel
What would have happened if someone gave Princess Diana a Pontiac Aztek? 😂
I would choose this over a TT.
Very nice! But you should give the cars you review an Alanis-Score.
Whenever I see a video with Alanis I watch it. She has a great presence. She was a good hire.
Love to see alanis keeping up the tradition of testing small car back seats!
More to come!
Was not the predecessor to the TT. It was the predecessor to the a4 cabriolet.
Exactly what I wrote
I own this exact same model but in black over red interior. 59k on the clock. Mine would rival this one in every way. I have used it as a show car in regional car shows for the last 15 years. Local Audi dealership wants to put it on their showroom floor to show what an Audi can look like after 25 years of ownership. One feature I just discovered after all these years is that the ignition key has a button designed into it that actually shines a pin light forward to see the key hole at night. And, this same key when used to lock up the car, can close up all the windows at once!
Finally!
I have one! The 2.0l 4-cylinder with the manual transmission. Over 300k km on the clock and basically no issues. Such a great and reliable car.
Underrated beautiful car
This was great!
Wish these were still on the road
One of my friends from high school has the four door sedan version in a pine green. Such an interesting car you never see these on the road!!
I see that the American version did not have the same front lights as the European version. probably because European lamps did not have turn signals because they in eu were moved to the bumper.
Please put the Reviewer Person’s Picture in the Thumbnail!
I watch all Cars and Bids videos but the easiest way to know it’s y’all is seeing one of The Gang in the thumbnail
Thanks for another great video … always educational and energetic and entertaining 😎
Love Alanis’reviews ngl. Way more detailed than most but also super easy to relate to/understand keep em coming 🙏🏼
I wanted one of these. I remember looking at a black one.
I bought a 1996 that was a couple years old. Pearl White, navy top and interior, cold weather package. I absolutely loved that car but kids got too big for back seat.
It´s actually the predecessor of the Audi A4 Cabrio/Convertible
She didn't say the TT was the successor of the Audi Cabriolet
I say that in the video! The title was meant to be the short version of "the Cab died when the TT arrived"
I say that in the video! The title was meant to be the short version of "the Cab died when the TT arrived"
S2 quattro coup was the "sports car" before the TT.
@@almaadams3631 has nothing to do with this video
Drove the coupé version (which I think looks prettier than the convertible tbh) but both were based on the Audi 80, which preceded the A4.
I say that in the video! I get that you're talking about the title, but when I wrote it, I wrote it as the short version of "this car died with the intro of the TT"

Doug we miss w
HAVE A BLACK ONE IN SOUTH AFRICA CAPE TOWN..NICE CARS
There’s an A4 Avant in this color in my town..super cool.
Alanis is in Waco! I’ve stayed at that Springhill Suites so many times lol. Excellent review girl!!
Nice review. I love your style of reviewing cars 👌🏾❤
How dare it rain on your parade
At the 10:10 mark she describes the heat vents as rectangles with' horizontal' slats. Maybe someone can explain to her the difference between horizontal and vertical.
Alanis got that widebody kit installed
This is literally the predecessor to the A4 and later A5 Cabriolet
I'm going to respond to all of these comments: I say that in the video, and the title was meant to be "this car died when the TT arrived." I'm sorry for any confusion
@@AlanisKinggood saVe...but not what you said or meant
I have a silver 1995. You also forgot to mention its sport mode.
Ah, i own an 100% original and amazing condition Audi Coupe B3 (1.8). Such a lovely car to drive, the factory original Audi Beta -cassette radio still works and the car, while not as powerful nor Quattro as the best ones were, is still very nice car to corner with. Its bound to impress both the ladies and laddies i meet
We're riding with ya.
"I am the sun."
(Alanis King)
I have one and its pretty hard to find parts for ngl
The lack of sales may have also been due to some lingering hangover from the "unintentional acceleration" journalistic hit job on Audi in the late '80s.
The fourth speed which is overdrive is locked out until the engine reaches operating temperature
My friends and I piled into her early 2000s VW cabrio (5 deep) from the bars one night. It felt like a clown car lmao but quirky
90s cars aren't very good looking, but this one is beautiful
My HSteacge4 had one in Light blue..wouldn't call it an TT predecessor...but A4 coupe
It was my best car i owned, but always when you talk about any car, i am distract
was that a Silverado SS stealing the scene @5:12 ?! 😮
Great video, never realised how pricey these were new
What a trooper for shooting in those conditions! Sheesh!!
Those center air vents are horrible😂
Alanis your whole left leg is soaked! What a trooper
I love the themed outfits
I have one 1997 black/dark blue with red sits 2.6 L and think i Will sell it.
Surprisingly large trunk space, one Alanis
Don't get kidnapped in stiff pants
id say this was the predescor to the Audio A4 convertible...and not the TT...how did you get this wrong
She didn't say that. What she said is the Audi cabriolet based on the Audi 80 wasn't very popular because in 1998 a new, more modern audi 2 door (TT) was introduced. The audi A4 Cabriolet came only in 2002. How did you get this wrong
@@cencio_1976 the title of the video is where it says it. Are you blind?
That's in the video! The title was meant to say "The Cab died when the TT arrived" in shortform, so sorry for the confusion
@@JBR.1974 I guess I am. Didn't read the title
Not enough Texas in this video
It would be way cooler if it was a manual.
Nope, the S2 coup was the precursor to the TT.
Not a convertable.
And really more the predecessor to the A4 Cabrio
I say that in the video! The title, to me, meant "the Cab died when the TT arrived" in shortform
It Sold for 10k
Oh wow.... Audi 80 --> become a4; audi 100 --> a6; audi 200 --> a8.... S2 coupe was audi 80 base, so it become..... S5..... Audi had 90 model, something in between. And tt.... Its vw beatle version of audi.... At least first gen.
What a bad review, this car is from another cathegory than the TT. This car is sold until these days as Audi A5 cabriolet and the seats must been changed because the originals have an ugly protection on the top
Nope, that's exactly what they are supposed to look like. I have the same seats in beige in a 97 Cabriolet.
No.
Please don't put the emphasis at the wrong things....sooo very Doug DeMuro to do this. It's literally an Audi 80 B3 coupé base with B4 style combination
The real fun part is, this convertible version was in production a lot of years longer than the regular sedan and station versions. The Audi A4 b5 was already in production and on sale for many years while this variant of the Audi 80 was still in production.
Until the A4 B6 there was no replacement for this car. The TT Roadster is NOT the successor.
And yes, the interior looks great. Identical to my B4. But this steering wheel is NOT old. I really don't like it because the real old steering wheels of the b3/b4 look better and are old school. This one is nothing special and actually modern. Yeah, it's not that thick like those circular baseball bats we have now, but it's nothing like the classic Audi 80 wheel which is great for cruising. And yes, this cars are old, but very comfy. DO NOT get the automatic with this great engine. Correction, don't get it at all with these cars. The manuals are mint and bulletproof. Nothing special about this giving you a smooth ride. Audi 80 B4, Audi 100, BMW 5 and 3 series from that time and Mercedes w124, w201 are also quite old but give you a really modern driving experience. Nothing unexpected or put of the ordinary, unless you are selling the car and trying to talk smooth stories about it to potential buyers.
Hi there Alanis!, you definitely made the grey day look perfect. I think that car suits you far better than a MIata and let me tell you something, The Audis of that era, I think BMW s too were made up to phenomenal quality standards. You touch the buttons and the feedback, the clicks and the way they operate are very very satisfying and it always feel like you are doing something important, purposeful. Take a look for instance at the sound system in this car, they were usually made by Blaupunkt named after famous cities like Montreal, Montecarlo, etc and the quality was superb. You should have it. coolest combination from Dallas to Austin 🙂
M3 hatchback!?!?!
Compact, came in the e36 and e46 generations in Europe. Was superseded by the e87 1 series.
@@GLH8 not as m3s, though.
I’m watching the female version of Doug Demuro 😂😂😂👍👍👍👍👍👍
I understand that you guys trying to help owners get higher selling price, but you're playing too much excited that I wonder why don't you buy it for yourself no matter how much the price? I like this car and it looks nice but come on! it's just Audi 80 with no roof.
Weird name!!!
Nice review
Looks like a toy car, need some black accents.
Alanis I love you! ❤
Alanis in Audi PIKACHU Cabrio.
I wish to be there for a picture.
Early
Terrible title for the video... It is not quirky but the most timeless design Audi ever applied. At least the European versions of this car. And it is not the predecessor of the TT. The succeeding model was the Audi A4 Cabriolet....
These cars are great to drive, however terrible colour and styling looks old. I can't get excited about this car.
Good time to go for a swim.
Alan is king
“I am…the sun.” 💀
The millennial term for an old car "quirky" to get views.
That is funny, but honestly this was a quirky car even back when it was new.
@@kirkericson2722 😱, the dimmer switch on the floor? How quirky!!!! Omg, a levers to operate the climate control!!??? Quirky!!
@@kirkericson2722 Nothing about it is quirky, even when it was new. My dad bought one for my mum in 98. These are about as normal as it gets.
@@senzelian I think its a matter of semantics. I use quirky as a synonym for unique, and in the US, this was definitely not a mainstream choice for a luxury convertible. In an Era of curvilinear/ovoid designs, this Audi was downright stubby in its proportions. I don't think I've ever seen a single one in person, and I was already driving when these were new.
🍑👖
I think it looks beautiful even today, color notwithstanding. I wonder how maintenance would be for someone taking it to a mechanic (in other words, not mechanically inclined).
No Dougy No Watchy!
SORRY!
We were all wondering your thoughts.
very cheap plastic interior and the chairs are terribly uncomfortable
Alanis is the best and reviewing cars. Sorry Doug.
Uhhhh, no.
Yeah for zelleniall novices
I cant stand her reviews... fake laughs, repetition, and this diana story kept going and going... till I stopped the madness to move on with my daily life. Yeap, not watching the rest.
97 cabriolet started at 37k..was never 80k...what a misinformed channel
80k in todays money. Do you listen?
Loving those sexy tight jeans!
This is listed on cars and bids as vibrant yellow... I call it puke yellow
