I've tried many things for tmj most helpful is a very thin pillow for sleeping on my back. It opens up and relaxes the neck and the jaw unlike a regular sized pillow which pushes the head and jaw forward.

Thank you so much, this is more thorough information than any dentist or doctor has been able to give me, and now I finally know I can do something about it at home! the animations and explanations of where certain muscles were and how to locate them were very precise and easy to follow.

Thank You so much Dr. Mistry your video has been invaluable especially the supplement recommendations thank you! 🙏 I've been taking magnesium for a few months now and I had no idea I had to double my calcium intake with it. I mean I had calcium supplements but I just didn't take them as regularly as I did with the magnesium.
Anyway the Ligaplex I is 100% my next buy because I believe whole heartedly that my extremely chronic muscular TMD on my left side was caused by an overextension of my jaw in January of this year and I've been reeling with the chronic muscularly tension/ aching for 9 months . And for the last two and half months, ear clicking on my left side as well after finishing a sentence or exhaling.
So I do believe its still in the acute state and perhaps healing my damaged ligament to some capacity will break the cycle. Had Botox earlier in the month and that really helped with the Masseter Pain but didn't seem as effective this time around on my Temporalis.
I know it could be worse but I think people truly underestimate how life altering TMD can be and how deeply it can diminish your quality of life when your symptoms become so chronic they just feel never ending. Wish there were more docs like your Dr Mistry. Thank you for your video 🙌

Thanks a lot for this video..very informative, especially the exercises...yesterday had been to a tmj specialist here in Tamilnadu and she wasnt very impressive..she pressed thw trigger points for addressing the issues but that caused more pain and then was asked to take tense, ultrasound ot laser treatment for pain.i walked out saying i need a break..i feel few doctors need to be mote empathetic to underatand that a patient may already be in a lot of pain and not massaging these points after triggering them may mean more suffering for the patient atleast for few hrs..i came bk home with great difficulty and so much of pain and disbelief on d sad state of affairs in this modern time ..even looking and doing the few exercises once (u have said in this video) has given me lot of confidence that i will be able to get over this pain asap..thanks a ton and lots of gratitude for making these hideos available to all..Hare krsna ❤❤❤❤❤

I deal with TMJ all the time. My jaw has been tenser than normal lately, but when I woke up from a nap earlier today the entire right side of my jaw hurt, down to the roots of my teeth. And every time I opened my jaw, it felt like I was dislocating it. Now, my teeth still hurt, but my jaw isn't popping when I open it anymore, and pain is down from and eight to a four. So progress!

I'm binge watching your channel. This is great info. Do you have any Canadian colleagues that specializes in TMJ or do I need to fly down to WA? I'm in Alberta and I've been suffering with TMJ pain and muscle spasming since I was 18, I'm 29 now. I'm reaching the point in my life where I'm willing to travel to whomever is willing to put in the effort in diagnosing the root cause, especially since insurance doesn't wanna cover anything TMJ related anyway 🙄. I'm tired of going to consultations where the ask me if I grind (I don't) or if I'm stressed (sometimes, but not nonstop for 11 years) and then recommends me a nightguard for grinding anyway. I don't grind, I sleep with my jaw slack and sometimes drool on my pillow. I've had 4 pre-molars and 4 wisdom teeth extracted as part of my ortho treatment (everything was shifted forward, my wisdom teeth grew in but I was told to extract them anyway) so my theory is that my bite position, although straight and functional, has resulted in joint misalignment, which in turn is causing muscle spasms. And no one seems to care or want to help me find a solution meanwhile my face and temples are in a perpetual state of agony 😭😭 halp

This is a great video; thanks so much. I've watched a few others and plan to watch more. So much helpful information. I have a question on the calcium/magnesium supplement. The one on the video has a 6 to 1, calcium to magnesium, ratio, rather than the recommended 2 to 1 ratio. Is there another product you could recommend that does have the 2 to 1 ratio? I've looked a bit, but have been unsuccessful. Or is the 6 to 1 also acceptable? Thank you.

    • @theTMJdoc
      @theTMJdoc  8 วันที่ผ่านมา

This is a great question! Yes it’s acceptable because of the types of magnesium that are used! 😊

Hi Doctor Mistry, I've been watching these videos for a while trying to find relief for my TMJ symptoms. My TMJ is only on my left side, my jaw pops whenever I open my mouth too wide. My main concern is mandibular nerve pain - when I touch the underside of my left jaw it is extremely tender and almost like touching exposed nerves. I don't have clenching or muscle pain issues. Would you still recommend the supplements and jaw massages/exercises for these symptoms? I truly appreciate these videos ❤

thank you for all your videos! you are very clear in your explanations. I suffer from chronic throat pain (sometimtes feels like something is stuck in my throat, high up in my neck), which i believe is associated with my terrible clenching. I have read that the medial pterygoid muscle can be involved. can you explain this? I'm hoping my throat painwill magically disappear as I attempt to relax and stretch my neck and jaw muscles. please advise. thank you!!

Hi There! I wish I could explain the throat pain. It can be due to TMJD or it could be something else. I'd recommend getting your thyroid checked as well. Sorry - I wish I had a better explanation but this is not a symptom I see often.

Im trying your "teeth to teeth" exercise and that seems to be helping relax the tension in my jaw (right side).
Have you heard about a "gall blader/tmj" connection? Oriental medicine describes a "gall blader meridian" which runs from tmj (and temple) to back of neck, down rigjt side of back and into gall blader region. That is exactely the pattern of the muscle tension in my body. Very interesting but hard to determine "what is causing what"!!!

    • @theTMJdoc

Thank you very much Dr Mistry (excuse me for the approximative English I've used Google Translate, I'm French) your advice, explanations and exercises help me a lot and give me a lot of motivation and positivity since I have been following you assiduously! I have a question, however, that has been worrying me since little, I saw in a video (by a French physiotherapist) recently that during massages of the temporal muscle it's necessary to avoid friction on the temporal artery, apart from it happened to me during strong tensions towards the front of the ear and temple area to exert pressure to untie the muscle knots, what's the risk of these strong pressures on or near the temporal artery in your opinion?
Thank you again for all your thorough and documented work, your dedication to people with this type of pain!

Hi dear doctor Priya. I’m not sure my pain is the symptoms of TMD, because my daw never pops or clicks, nor do I have neck pain or ear pain. My pain is mostly located way I the left side of the mouth all the way to the throat, and spread to the back of my left tongue. I don’t have pain when I open my mouth, but when I bite a piece of food using my front teeth, it does trigger the pain. And the pain often feels like multiple needles pierce my jaw and my tongue and my jaw. I’m taking gabapentin or carbamazepine alternatively. But lately they don’t seem to ease my pain. Btw, I don’t feel any pain if I don’t move my mouth. Do you think this is TMJ disorder or something else? Thank you so much!
