This is my number 1 go to rig for stock trout. I've outfished people using corn, worms and lures. I use powerbait dough bait too. The 1/16 egg sinker is hard to find, so I use 1/8 or something close. Set your drag and use a strike indicator like an old ball float, and you are set.
That’s an interesting concept. But like you said, if the fish grabs the head first, you’d want the hook to be up there. I think also the tail action works better if you hook thru the head. Thanks for the comment
Mousetails are ok. I deciced to spend thousands on my own molds similar to mouse tail and they work much better. Also i hook it up completely different and i never lose a fish. A lot of those rigging methods are a bit counter productive in terms of hook up ratios and how the bait moves in the water. A simple nose hook similar to how to rig up a drop shot is the best and only method i use. just a splitshot no egg sinker those are a waste of time and they spook the fish.
@@SaltwaterTherapist It really is expensive to get into if your just doing it as a hobby. You can get low cavity molds if they are just for you. Those are pretty affordable.
@@iceman5117 sup Iceman5117. Whatever works to get a bite. I’ve also used just a split shot but not as easy to adjust the leader length imo. The red Carolina keeper makes it real easy to adjust leader length.
You could totally use a swivel but you’ll also have to retie your line if you want to lengthen/shorten your leader. Swivels still a great option. The Carolina keepers a good option when you’re trying to find the right depth. Thanks for the comment! Tight line 🤙
You can see the rig set up and where to get them in my description! Tight line!
That boy ready to chop some fish up with that big ol knife. 🔪🐟
Oh he’s ready

@@SaltwaterTherapist I caught six stocked trout in less than two hours wednesday morning using this rig.
awesome video! i really enjoyed it
Thanks for the support!
not a problem! @@SaltwaterTherapist
Thank you for a great tutorial. Just want to know what size of hooks you're using .
Thanks for the comment. I usually use size 10# hook or an egg hook size 10 or 12. Good luck out there
I wonder how it would work if you hooked thru the end of tail since fish swallow the head first?

Yo! Subbed. 🤙🏼🎣
Appreciate it bro!
I normally do a rubber egg and live worm
That’s a great idea! Thanks for the comment
Is 6 lb fluorocarbon too heavy?
I’d go with 2-4 lb. Trout seem to be line shy.

Right on! I’d love to try my hand at some custom baits but it’s just so expensive to get started. Thanks for the comment!

Way too much effort for stocked trout

If you’re going to show us how to rig something then also show us how well it catches fish.
Fo sho! That day was really slow, but I will say 99% of the trout that I’ve caught was on this rig. Thanks for comment.
“Just put my weight on”…. puts a hook.
The horror! He misspoke!
@@mattp334 I know what a bastard
If your not using keepers
Your tying to many knots
Definitely Carolina keepers are easy for trout. I’ve used them on the surf and a bit more finicky depending on surf conditions and weight size
Yea, i'll pass. Without a swivel, all you have is line twist. I'm not about that life.
