    Thank you for the effort you put in. You have my respect. I am starting with music production and you pushed me a bit in the right direction in "doing my thing". Easy for me to immediately follow your steps in Reason, check it out, play with it. No need to learn every bit of it in first place. I love using technology for the art. I spent many years developing software, I know what's behind, it's an art of its own. DAW's are advanced toys to create something beautiful

      It is surprising how LITTLE useful help there is for beginners out there in Reason world. I get so frustrated at my slow progress with stuff that I lose interest in any ideas I might have. Simple things like isolating the high hat to change the velocities without altering the volume of everything else in a sequencer/midi clip….🤪

    Your video is useful for a Reason beginner, thank you. I find the sequencer to be really tricky to use, in comparison to Reaper which I am very familiar with, but your video will definitely help. I just purchased R10 I think it is more for my purposes than the 2 other DAWs I got..not knowing a DAMNED thing about them really. Ableton Live & Cubase...are great but they are specifically designed for slightly different agendas. So finding the right DAW is paramount. I also believe one should purchase the highest level edition of the current version instead of the "intro" or "Elemental" version, simply because if one is going to use a DAW to seriously make music ..You will want to have everything you can use...exempting of course those who know exactly what they are doing and find IT in the DAW of choice. That is NOT me and I find this video to be the best I have found so far for getting me started. So thank You Quanta for taking the time to do the Vid.

  • @bubbakav
    @bubbakav 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    Very helpful. Working with trial versions of both Ableton and Reason and trying to decide which one to go with. Ableton was immediately easier to use, but this video certainly de-mystifies Reason.

    Great video. I'm sick and tired of running two DAWs (FL Studio and REAPER) for different things (audio or MIDI) and would like to have everything in the same DAW. Reason was an unexpected contender among the usual suspects like Cubase, Live, Pro Tools and Studio One.

    • @quantaaudio
      @quantaaudio  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I feel the same. I really only want to use one DAW to get my music production done. As it turns out, 99% of my work is doe in Reason. It just works, for my needs!

      Cue Zephyr I agree. I use Mixcraft for video and Reaper for the sequencer/editing and customization. I really wish Reason's sequencer would be updated. I wish I could make an individual track as big as I want.

  • @bluzdawg
    @bluzdawg 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    at about 11:20, we go into the sequencer to see our recording. I tried doing a strait redrum and never did find the visual of that recording, then added some Korg to it, and can find that - BUT, only a single visual, of the korg track, BUT the audio portion plays both recorded trax. I'm not confused, just noob.

    • @quantaaudio
      @quantaaudio  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If you programmed a pattern directly into the Redrum, then the pattern will play back directly from the Redrum itself, and not from the sequencer. If you would like for your programmed drum loop in Redrum to play back from the sequencer window, right-click on Redrum, then choose "copy pattern to track". You will then see a "visual" for your drum pattern.
      Keep in mind that once you do this, the pattern will play back double and sound a bit distorded. You can alleviate this by clicking on the red button next to "enable pattern section" on the Redrum. This stops playback of your drum pattern within Redrum and only uses the playback data you recently copied to the track.
      To gain a better of Redrums' functionality I'd recommend checking out my tutorial series on it, here: th-cam.com/video/BnRG2_2FDtc/w-d-xo.html

      great tutorial - got the answer, and a lot MORE useful information I'll be looking for more of your videos -

    • @bluzdawg
      @bluzdawg 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Got a good grip on REDRUM and ready to output some stuff after mixing - and was able to navigate to what I think is a MIX channel collection of sounds and fades, blah blah, so now how do i get what's in the mix channel to output to a wav file - I've looked around and can't find one of your videos on mixing/mastering/outputing - I do have some home movies on YT that might be improved with some sound tracks but still such a noob on R that I don't know even what I don't know yet, or how to label things to ask the right question...

    • @quantaaudio
      @quantaaudio  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey, Donnie. If I'm understanding your question correctly you have two options. This first is that you should locate your end marker within the sequencer - just scroll vertically until you see a vertical line that has a box at the top that has the letter "E" in it. Set that to where ever you'd like for your song to end at.
      Then, go to "File" and from the menu choose "Export Song as audio file". This will export all of your audio from the beginning of the song, to where ever your set your End marker. In the window that pops up, just name your song, click save, and you should be fine with the setting in the following window that pops up so just click ok.
      The second option is to set your left(L) and Right(R) loop locators to the specific area you would like to render down to an audio file, go to the "File" menu again, but this time choose "Export Loop as audio file"...everything after that is the same as exporting a song. Hope this helps.

    • @bluzdawg
      @bluzdawg 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I don't think I explained it very well. I have like 5 tracks in the sequencer all trimmed to start and end at the same time (I'm used to working in video, but very similar operations) - so, the final "MIX" of the individual tracks is what I put together in the mixer with the transport on "record". and I take it to mean that there is a single stereo collection of the individual track parameters (bring forward, send back, etc) - and THEN I'm thinking I need to put that composition (song?) into a "master" track of some kind and export that as an audio file. and/or ???

  • @reaper7264
    @reaper7264 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Been a reason user since probably version 4. I have never seen anyone or a video on recording with different time signatures. I know how to change and automate time changes , but I would really like to see someone record something with a 12/8 click. Why reason gives you 12 8th note clicks in a bar is beyond me.

      The drum supply in the browser allows you to access all of the latest drum samples/patches that are included in Reason 10. If you don't see it in your browser you should be able to go to "Window/Manage Manage Content" and then download it - as well as other content - from there.

    Good video and tips do have a video on taking samples from cds and how to use them in reason?

    • @quantaaudio
      @quantaaudio  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I would just use whatever software that normally would use to rip the audio from the CD to your computer. Take note of where the file has been ripped to, or move it to any folder that you'd like, then follow the instructions shown at 34:20 in this video.
      If you'd like a more detailed presentation on working with slice markers and sampling, etc., you can check out this tutorial I did, here: th-cam.com/video/Xd3kgw8I4ew/w-d-xo.htmlm18s Keep in mind it is one of my earlier tutorials so it's a bit rough around the edges, but the material is detailed, accurate, and presented in a slower fashion.

    Does Reason 10 contain PUP's, adware, or malware, etc? I am wondering if Reason is safe before I purchase. Thank you!

    • @quantaaudio
      @quantaaudio  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Most any software that you actually purchase will not contain these things, certainly not Reason. This is only something you have to worry with freeware and bootleg software.

    on recording synth parts, if I press play, I hear the click and recorded drum loop, but don't hear the synth at all - th preview plays but not seeing how to get the manipulated sample to play...must be missing something very simple...

    • @quantaaudio

      You need to use a MIDI controller to trigger the Instruments in Reason, or, if you press "F4" this will bring up the on-screen piano keys which you can use to trigger devices.

    How do I do if I want an effect on a track but just like one bar for example? Let's say an effect that chops the track up... so it sounds chppy but only for one bar

    • @quantaaudio
      @quantaaudio  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      That'll be a bit difficult to describe in the comment section but I'll do my best. Right-click on the "bypass" button of the effect you're trying to use and choose "edit automation". This will create an automation lane in the sequencer. With the arrow tool, double-click on the new automation track to create a clip and adjust it's length to be a be longer than the "bar" you'd like to have the effect on. Double-click at the very beginning of the new clip to create an automation point, then double-click where you'd like to introduce the effect, then double-click at the point where you'd like the effect to stop. Drag the first automation point up, which will set Bypass on, then on the second point where you'd like the effect to begin, set it to the center position which will activate the effect. Finally, on the third automation point, drag it up to set the effect back to bypass.

      @@quantaaudio When I map out 3 dots for automisation, the whole track becomes silent ;S

    • @quantaaudio
      @quantaaudio  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I can't really troubleshoot what's going on via the comment section. At least you know that what you need to do is automate the "bypass" button to accomplish what you'd like to do. I would just recommend doing some more research on how to automate in Reason. I have a high volume of questions so there's only so much I can do, esp. for free.

    • @quantaaudio
      @quantaaudio  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Certain versions of FL are cheaper than the full version of Reason, but you have to take a closer look at what is included between the different versions. The full version of Reason may have mores synths, effects, and overall features than the cheaper version of FL that you are looking at. I'm not sure...
      Neither is better than the other, but they do have very different workflows/GUIs. I would recommend downloading the trial version of both and then determining which you prefer, personally.

    I’m interested in Reaper, but after watching a number of video’s in which someone takes up to 30 minutes to create only a few measures, I must admit it turns me off.
    I’m looking for ease of use and high quality sound to capture my creativity without all the heavy tech maneuvering.

    • @quantaaudio

      I think that Reason has the quickest workflow of all of the DAWs, and I have used them all, over the last 20 years. Watching tutorials on it is probably not going to show how quickly it works because - in this tutorial, for instance - I am taking extra time to explain a lot of information to try and help beginners understand the software on a deeper level, which will help them in the long-run.
      The only reason I no longer use the software is because I don't like the direction in which the company has been taking the Reason over the last couple of years... But I tremendously miss it's simplicity of use and quick workflow.

  • @diversifieddame9682

    This looks like a nightmare to navigate... Then i wondering would my touchscreens be rendered useless with this software... I guess this is kinda like a closed end DAW. I have other VST's and hear reason does not support use of outside VST's. This along with if and when i see Reason being use via touchscreen is when I may gain some interest.

    • @quantaaudio
      @quantaaudio  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's actually the DAW that I'm most quickly able to navigate and create music in. Learning the several main function key shortcuts is what makes this happen. Working with a touch screen, yeah, I'd probably not recommend that.
      It does now support VSTs, however.
