    Very nice. I'll be building this. I'll make it a bit deeper so I can get two rows of wood as there seems to be some wasted space at the front as i saw you stacking the wood in there. Thanks!

    Did this today. Thank you for the plans. I modified it a bit towards the end to add a few things but all went well thank you. Wish it was a little bigger maybe double the dept and little wider.

    For others who might find this useful: based on the prints, the stackable space in the cavity is roughly 60"h x 68"w x 22"d, or about 52 cubic feet. A cord (4'x4'x8') is 128 cubic feet. So about 2/5 of a cord.

    Great video! One minor discrepancy though. In the video you said "we'll create the four corner posts by connecting a 2x4 to a 2x6, which will form an L", but the plans only call for 2x4s in the posts. Going to try giving this a build this weekend; wish me luck!

    Awesome. Cheers from here. I need to Build one of these that needs to be about 18 inches off the ground, within the yard itself, to keep vermin out. How would you adapt this build? I thinking that it needs pressure treated wood, to be on blocks, and to create two "frames" the bottom frame and then another higher frame to begin stacking the wood on. Hoping that I can make it stand securely... and then I might change the roofing with the plastic roofing to keep off the elements. Advice dearly welcomed.

    • @DIYPETE
      @DIYPETE  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      You might look at doing 4x4 posts at each corner, and using concrete blocks as a foundation for the posts.

  • @chadramage9293

    Nice project. How much wood does your rack hold? Half Cord? If you were going put this on the bare ground would you sink posts versus freestanding?

    • @DIYPETE
      @DIYPETE  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Chad! I'd estimate 1/3 to 1/2 cord. This is a smaller unit and simply is located by the house for convenience. It get's reloaded with wood from the large pile when needed.

    How many cord does this hold? Maybe you said - I'll watch it again.

    • @DIYPETE
      @DIYPETE  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Samson! A cord measures 4 feet by 4 feet by eight feet. So it would not hold a full cord. I'm not sure on the exact amount.

    • @DIYPETE
      @DIYPETE  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Laura Crimson Hi Laura! To be honest, I couldn't tell you how many logs or portions of a chord this would hold. We stack ours up pretty high and it lasts quite a while. If needed you could add more pickets to the side/back to help hold the wood in a bit better when stacking higher. -- If anyone out there who chops and sells logs for a living knows how many portions of a chord this might hold please chime in! Cheers

  • @heavymetalrunner1
    @heavymetalrunner1 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    First I want to say thank you for the idea. I ended up building one for myself and I really like it. However, your plans are not completely accurate and you left out details in the video and the plans. For example at 4:00 in the video you can see the 2x6” stretcher is flush with the top of the support post, but in 4:06 it has been adjusted with no mention in the video or plans. This adjustment threw off a lot of the previous listed measurements and I had to use a circ saw to trim the front facing posts down a few inches. Overall a helpful guide but the roofing sections needs to be explained better for others who want to try. Thanks!

      I ran into the same problem with the front 2x6 stretcher board. Also I'm not so sure the plans accurately reflect the length of the roof supports. Cut my supports to the 25+" and 22.6 angle for them to be way short. It all worked out in the end, Thanks for the plans.

    • @davidorlando999
      @davidorlando999 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@DIYPETE Hey Pete, loved these plans and bought them a few weeks ago but you still need to update them for the 2x6 stretcher and roof supports. I just need to add sides, roof and floor and I'll be all set. Thanks again.

      +Shaan Ansari Hi Shaan! You could certainly do shingles on the roof. If so, I'd throw a piece of osb or plywood on the top, some tar paper, and then shingles. Good luck!
