    Mad Madam Mim is the only reason I want to buy this set. Been hoping they would add her for a while now.
    Now they just need to add Oogie Boogie, Sanderson Sisters, and Ernesto de la Cruz in an expansion called "Well well well"... or something referencing them being Halloween and Day of the Dead related, and released around that time.

    1:03 - Tom, I’m pretty sure Madam Mim is in the box in order to have at least one female villain represented in each set they’ve done it with every set so far). Many people have been asking for Madam Mim by the way (the wizard’s duel with Merlin is perfect for Villainous and the highlight of that movie)!

    I want to get this just for Madam Mim! My favorite Disney movie! I do not think that it isn't well known, I've talked to many others who have also said it's their favorite. Maybe it's just not well known to the younger generations.

      As far as the 50s-60s Disney movies go I think the average person is a bit more likely to know The Jungle Book or 101 Dalmatians etc. Sword isn't an obscure movie by any means but it's probably not going to be a Family Feud top audience answer.

    I learnt, because of this game, that Sword in the Stone is a good representation of its source material which was way ahead of its time. Modern Disney sensibilities might miss it but Merlin travelling to Bermuda, talking about viruses and mentioning Motion Pictures and Television in a fantasy story was really unusual but it's based on the book of the same name and not on the Arthurian Legends (other than the characters of Merlin, Kay and Arthur)

      @@metacross2826At least in the base game, which is all I've played, the player interaction feels a little pasted-on. • @Groovebot3k
      @Groovebot3k 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@metacross2826 Master Control Program, the original Tron villain.
      Were I designing them myself, the MCP starts with control over his board represented by shields at the top but a hero - Tron or Flynn, perhaps - already out in play that opponents can manipulate to mess with you. You win by protecting your board from heroes while accruing resources (that the heroes can drain of course) until you have enough to take over completely.
      With Clu2 (Tron Legacy's villain) I would make it so that you had to get Flynn out on the board because his disc is necessary for your victory condition... defeat Flynn and get his disc on the terminal, and you win. However, all the heroes have the ability to swap discs with each other, and your opponents have the ability to shuffle them so you don't know whose disc is whose... and if your opponents move a hero to the terminal with Flynn's disc, it wipes your board.

    I really appreciate the original art in Villainous, they easily could have just used screenshots from the movies, but they put in the extra effort. To bad the game is just a 6/10 for me as I'm not a huge fan of multiplayer solitaire.

    • @VaultBoy13
      @VaultBoy13 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I don't think multiplayer solitaire describes the series at all. Villainous is like asymmetrical Munchkin where instead of playing from a common pool of cards, each villain plays with/against their own set.
      The game has a fairly heavy dose of take-that with the fated cards. In a multiplayer solitaire game, the other players wouldn't be able to block another player from winning. And, while I enjoy the game, that's my main problem with the series... Some of the villains are just not viable. Once they're close to winning, they can be fated so hard that they're taken out of the game. I don't think it's possible to win with Hades (unless the other players are asleep at the table). Ursula can be taken out of the game early with fating.
      A good example of multiplayer solitaire is Yahtzee. You cannot affect other players in any way. Winning is entirely dependent upon where you score your dice and luck. Multiplayer solitaire comes down to how much impact players can have on other players. If that impact is little-to-none, then it's probably fair to classify a game that way. Otherwise, your issue with the game is likely the type of player interaction. You may want more direction interaction and conflict instead of take-that.

    • @BoardGamesBricksHobbies
      @BoardGamesBricksHobbies 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@VaultBoy13 I know players are not completely isolated, but like you said, the only interaction that exists is "take that". This means that if everyone minds their own business, or plays nice, it feels like solitaire. Also fate can actually be beneficial to villains that require specific cards, like Yzma. In games with those kinds of objectives, may people choose to not cast fate, since it is optional.

      Yeah I also disagree. I generally don't mind MP solitaire (Wingspan, Paladins of the WK would be my examples of such) but Villainous always feels very directly interactive to me, as fating your opponent wisely is often more important than even pursuing your own goal. My main complaint of the game is that it is too easy to get hosed during the endgame (ie. Scar, Hades) making the game overlong, and some severe balance issues (ie. Queen of Hearts, Facilier vs Ursula, Scar, Hades). Still might get the Gaston set, but not this one, as I am not a fan of any of the villain choices.

      @@LookOut667 Robin Hood and Prince John are a personal favourite of mine as it's my second favourite Disney movie. On a less subjective bias, Prince John is a staple for Disney on Halloween and is a reoccuring Villain at Oogie Boogie bash in California Land.
