  • Unboxing and chopping review of the Apocalypse by TRC Knives in Elmax steel.
I was curious to see the performance of a slicer steel being used on a survival chopper blade.
My rating for this knife: 9.3/10
Also, a brief comparison with my EDC knife spyderco dragonfly
짧지만 제가 edc 휴대하는 스파이더코 드플과의 비교도 있어요

Mid carbon steels for hard use blades is what you want. Elmax is not high in toughness. You want 5160, A8Mod etc.

It's not only a stainless steel, but it's also a super pm stainless steel, which means it's the las steel you would want on a knife like that. Low alloy spring steels, is the way to go on this kind of knives. Terava, Winkler knives, RMJ and so many other companies, who create real user knives and not collectors pices, use 80crv2, which is an inexpensive spring steel. TRC makes some of the best fit and finish in the business, BUT on this knife, the steel choice is 100% marketing. They know, no soldiers, use anything that comes close to a knife like this, also common people, aren't going to use a 400 plus euro knife much, so why not use a steel, that sounds cool to the ears?!!! If you want a real "Apocalypse" knife, Terava Skrama is a proper choice. Don't get me wrong, just because I'm a metalurgist and a knife lover, because I also own TRC knives. PS 1095, O1 , Elmax, M390 etc popular steels, are way far from being tough, actually, these are the least tough steels out there. IT's ALL marketing guys!!

The US Navy SEALS knife is in Elmax. The 5150 by First Edge. So yes military do use Elmax and SEALS are the best of the best.

@@jdm8577 That;s all marketing. There is no knife issued to any army in this worl, other than Bayonets, where even those, are more a training gadget, than what a N,Seal carries on missions. Most common soldiers carry either a leatherman, or Swiss army knife, or something between those lines. Even Ka-bars that are tougher and 100% Combat knife designs, are more of graduation laser engraved present, rather than an issued knife on any army...

    • @greekveteran2715

@@DaveLeeKnives Are you a collector? Magnacut is a great user steel for folding knives if you're going to use it. From the price I imagine it wll come with, are you going to usethat knife as we use our cheap knives? IS it going to be a daily beater? Any super hard steel like that, is better of on a folder, instead of a field knife. It's another "marketing" trend" like most super steels nowdays, that after a couple of years, another steel will come out, and most people will advertize that one and so on. Guys, don't you see, it's all marketing nowdays? If you got it as a collector, and it's not going to be used and beat up, I don't think it matters what's the steel. It's the heat treatment, blade geometry and other details that matter more than that. and that's only if it's going to be used as a dedicated hunting knife or something.
