Hoffman Blacksmithing - Craft Carver
This is an unboxing and review of the LH Craft Carver Axe made by Liam Hoffman of Hoffman Blacksmithing in North Carolina, USA, and designed by Maximilian Neukäufler of Woodsmans Finest in Gmunden, Austria.
I waited for 18 months total, including the axe pool raffle before finally receiving it in the mail. Although I have yet to test the Craft Carver, I have a feeling this might be the best axe money can buy. I give this Hatchet a 9.8/10 for now (would've been 10/10 if the poll was hardened), and will update once tested.

Its a beauty, almost perfect knife but in my opinion the blade aswell as the sheath has a bit to much thickness make it heavy, and bulky. Its also very pricy.
I gotta say, its a perfect allrounder camp/bushcrash knife if i were to bring just one knife that can do it all. At the same time, i like to bring at least 2 plus a pocket knife so at times it feels like my other knives are better for specific chores. All in all i think its worth the money!!
These are fabulous boots. I even wore them to a funeral with a black suit. I have the brown, too, both Vibram soled.

I have a GB Mini Hatchet, a Wildlife Hatchet and a Small Forest Axe, and I've been thinking about getting the Outdoor Axe too. The Mini Hatchet and Wildlife Hatchet are phenomenal tools, and if physically carrying stuff, I wouldn't want anything above the Wildlife Hatchet. The SFA feels like something else entirely (in a good way) though I wouldn't like to carry one far. My Mini is my favourite GB tool.
I haven’t experienced the Wildlife Hatchet but the Outdoor axe is very similar to the mini, except you know how the mini hatchet is for a specific limited tasks? The outdoor axe can get a lot of force behind the bit due to longer handle so its definitely a more capable all-rounder…
@@DaveLeeKnives Really liking the handle shape and grip on my Mini and Wildlife Hatchets, I'm concerned that the Outdoor Axe has a handle that's way too thin, something which has been mentioned by numerous owners and reviewers. A Wildlife Hatchet handle the length of the Outdoor Axe handle would seem perfect. For making camp fire and tent stove fuel, a Mini Hatchet and a Silky Saw are fine.
Yeah if you have big hands definitely will seem too skinny and might have to stress over not losing grip and flying off! I never had the wildlife hatchet then i assume youre set for any light tasks!

I really recommend the belt knife with sculpted handle if you want a knife that is unlike anything else!
@@DaveLeeKnives I recently got the Belt Knife with the sculpted G10 camo grips - these grips are simply outstanding! The sculpted maple are nice, but I would suggest that buyers give the sculpted G10 a look, too. I like the G10's waterproof/weather proof aspect. I suppose the sculpted maple grips could be made near waterproof with the application of multiple treatments of Wicked Wax, though.

Its just an aesthetic really…
Thick edge geometry is for soldiers if they have needs to cut brass or steel. Average users would need to sharpen it down to fit their needs, and 80crv2's finer microstructure can support it to very low edge geometry. This is where 80crV2 shines, and you don't need special sharpening tools in the fields to sharpen it. Winkler knifes are the very few knife company do legit good tapered tang in this price range. Tapered tang knives are almost always have the best feel and balance in full tang knives. This and some other traits separate high quality custom from high quality production knives IMO.

I have the wildlife hatchet made by Gransfor Brooks it is in between them two. Mine is vintage and never bee used. Well made they are hand forged. Well worth the cost.
I found my winkler cut exponentially better when I put the edge down to 15 DPS, the steel and blade stock are more than tough enough to handle it, seriously it turned my winkler from “meh” performance to being my “take everywhere” knife
