The biopic on the founder of Deccan Air was loved and celebrated when it released digitally but can the remake cause the same waves, I have to confess this was always destined to be a losing battle. Because bollywood is totally running out of new ideas. They still think that audience are not familier to the original films that they are remaking. If they really want to remake they should remake those films which are not available in hindi at all and are not watched by the hindi audience like shaitaan and drishyam.

Laapata ladies was a theatrical flop and then people have been raving about it post ott release, qala, Satyaprem ki katha, maidaan, chandu champion were really good original movies but no one paid any attention to them when they were in theatres

The original film didn't receive a theatrical release due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and additionally, less than 2% of Indian households have access to OTT platforms. The director's motivation for this remake is to share the film with a wider audience and provide an opportunity for Indians to experience it on the big screen.

Producers have to understand that remakes of such popular films will not work at this point of time, Drishyam 2 worked because hindi dubbed version of original malayalam sequel was not available.
Great movies like Shahid's Jersey and average good remakes like Vikram Vedha faced the same. Their hindi dubbed versions were available for so long for free, hindi audiences already had watched originals.
We all know, Sarfira is going to follow the same 'vikram vedha syndrome'.
Also drishyam 1 became hit at time when people didn't knew much about original one

Radhika madan is one of the actress who really radiates that youth energy and can do college girl romances and pairing her with Akshay who is close to age of Irfan Sir who has played her father just few years ago.
Also why it is remade is biggest Mystery, if any movie is available in Hindi audience has already seen them.
Thing with Drishyam and Shaitaan is that og movies were not dubbed and didn't reached wider audience from the regional cinema. All other remakes have been bombed no matter how good they are.
Time for remakes has gone no movie works no matter how good it is. Jersey, Vikram Vedha were earnest but no one care if you have watched og.
Just stop remakes when hindi dubbed is available he'll even lot of people watch with subs if movie is good.

That's exactly my question. I just watched soorarai potturu hindi dubbed as Udaan on amazon prime few days ago now why should I spend my money for a film which shows the same story on big screen? Do the producers really think that the audience are too dumb not to watch good south films especially after knowing that a remake is being made and the original product is also available for free??

Sadly, I just do not look forward to Any Akshay kumar movies. I do not understand why he gets so defensive when people say he is doing too many films. Its a fatigue seeing him so much and not giving 100% to the roles he does.

In the original, it was not just Surya who was amazing but also Aparna Balamurali, who stole the show at many points. It tough to imagine Radhika Madaan pulling that off.

I think that's become the biggest hurdle for him to understand. That artistic pursuits just can't be about clocking in and out. He is too methodical with his approach towards projects. In and out casually vs investing in a vision

I read Piyush Pandey's autobiography a while back, called "Pandemonium". He talks about the approach of Aamir Khan & Amitabh Bachchan, with respect to even ads, how invested they were, how a shift didn't matter etc. I've grown up as an AK fan but now, I really have little interest. I think people have consumed top tier content and are doing so. So now, to provide the same level of satisfaction and bring the audience in the theatre is twice/thrice as hard. The same recipe and preparation may not work. It's a combination of picking good scripts, working with better Producers and Directors etc. for AK. He needs to stop creating spots for actors that he likes; Sonakshi, Rakul etc. The movie "Kill" for instance, would hit another orbit if it had AK. People probably would love to see him in that role.

That's exactly the reason and akshay fails to differentiate between blue collar job worker and an "actor". Anyways, can't blame him since that's what he sees in the film industry. He's there to collect his paycheck and from his explanation of doing so many films, the bills must be piling up.
Akshay saying Tom Cruise only works 55 days really rubbed me off the wrong way, he does not know how long MI8 has been in production continuously being delayed cause it's just not done. He should learn something from him instead of calling him out.

Honestly what hurt the most is Sarfira actually looks good. But I have no motivation to watch it since I've already seen Soorarai Pottru which was so well made and well-dubbed. Sarfira looks like a shot-for-shot remake or something slightly inferior.

I think it would be better for Akshay Kumar to focus on spy patriotic movies like "Baby" with some roughness and toughness which he will bounce back with shear intensity.
The main question which comes up is why was anyone not saying he is doing lots of films when he was giving 4 hits in a year, the 2015-2019 phase. I think this is not the only major reason for his films not working.
When none of the other films were working he was carrying Bollywood's collection in that phase with those number of movies.

Audiences watched films out of boredom at that point with expensive internet & no content at disposal. Things changed after the pandemic when ott subscriptions became dirt cheap, with affordable high-speed internet and super affordable ultra HD TV screens that have better resolutions than the theater screen. People don't go to cinema anymore unless there is something exceptional to make them excited. My tv has better resolution than movie hall with access to thousands of movies & TV series at my disposal, why would I go to movie theater that will cost me total of 700 per person minimum overall
Akshay Kumar has always done multiple films every year since the beginning of his career. And between 2015-2019, most of the films he was doing were actually really good, like Baby, Rustom, Jolly LLB 2, Toilet, Padman, Gold, Kesari & Good Newzz. But nowadays, his films are just not that good, and due to availability of Hindi dub, remakes are not working (releasing Sarfira in theatres was a bad decision).

What Akshay doesn't understand that he was starring in low budget, multi starcast films in 90s & 2000s. While from 2010s he is the main lead, or the only lead, and the onus of bringing audience falls solely upon him.
Akki has been solo lead since mid 2000s. Namaste London, Singh Is King, Welcome, Aitraaz..

Not really even if it was an original film. It may have turned out to be the same debacle as Maidaan which was excellent or Chandu Champion which was not bad either. It is so uncertain to predict the mood of the audience.
Why are we remaking movies that have already been popular in both Tamil and Hindi? Naturally, performances will be compared, and in my opinion, Surya is superior to Akshay. I question why Surya chose to remake this film when it was already a big hit with Hindi-speaking audiences.

Till the time he refers to filmmaking as 'work', he would be getting such results. Filmmaking is a creative field and it can't be categorized as 'work' as he sees it. You can't go to a set, get your job done in 30 days and expect people to marvel at your manufactured 'product'. A film has to be carved out of dedication, hardwork and patience.
Audience now don't even have an iota of excitement for Akki's movies now are because of his mediocre previous work and not putting efforts in his performances. His previous work has also affected his good movies like mission raniganj. Akki should take a hiatus and return with a banger, if he doesn't he would have to resort to doing the father figure role
I think Akshay Kumar in welcome or his performance as raju, him in the film Baby Or him as Lord krishna in OMG and so many beautiful performances. Now I don't know why I can only see Akshay Kumar. Nothing beyond that or the character. The same thing with may be Mr. mohanlal and the choices he makes now. I hope Akshay stops making remakes and empowers hindi writers to write good and new stories and also surrender to the role. 💔💔

Let's be honest, akshay kumar rarely gave brilliant performance in any film, it was always the "Akshay kumar" in every role, he works like dehadi majdoor & jumps from one film to another with no responsibility of understanding the character, it worked for him but after pandemic with cheap ott subscriptions, people don't want to spend money on below power efforts

Working tirelessly without conviction is like doing a 7-5 job without any interest. Akky considers this only as his job and so he comes, works and goes ! Thats it. If he wants his FILMS to work, he needs to take the audience seriously and not for granted ! A person should not see Akshay but the character in a film and that too never a remake ! It high time bollywood should take auditions for not actors but scriptwriters !

Why to remake a movie which is already dubbed and is well known amongst majority of the audience?? I mean there was no need to do this, typical bollywood mindset ki bhai wahan successful hai toh yahan b bana dete hein... Wishing for success is what Akshay shouldn't do he should just do the right scripts that would gaurantee success,or atleast appreciation from the audience.. but this,No IT DOESN'T MAKE SENSE!
Akshay should put hold to all his future projects , and revive the KHILADI series with filmmakers like Nikhil Nagesh Bhatt , Karthik Subaraj or Raj and DK.
For me, Akshay kinda carried this film. I had watched Suriya's version before and he came up with a very good performance. I went to this film because my friends insisted and I think Akshay completely justified Suriya's role. It may not be better than Suriya's( which I am not sure) but he wasn't terrible like you are claiming. But the movie editing wasn't upto mark. I don't understand how the same director missed it this time.

For me personally I would always backtrack to Suriya's original movie which i watched with Malayalam audio glued me onto the seat from start to finish with teary eyes. Everything just fits right. Maybe it's time for Akshay Kumar to take up indie project of newcomers with low budget rather than eyeing commerical movies.
Akshay comes from 90’s era and apart from Aamir no one from that era goes deep into the character. Akshay is an actor who will keep on doing 4 films a year so the period of 10 flops then 10 hit will keep on happening

When i saw the original tamil one, I thought the heroine looked not so beautiful... But boy, that is totally worth it. She became more and more beautiful with her acting and her personality. Its like you dont need to give huge remuneration to actresses like these and they deliver 200 percent, naturally!
Though Directors being the same , some things doesnt seem right with the intent of akshay, be it thuppaki/holiday or soorarai potru, but definitely he did the best most of the parts better , couldnt think of any other hindi actor. Maybe Amir khan, may be farhan akhter, may be abhishek bachan / 40s actor who could have potrayed romantic part and comradary between friends part better, Cannot claim without assurance who else could have shown it better.
I have an other points of view here, since Akshay Kumar is known for finishing his movies earlier the production team, the screenplay gets somewhat top fast due to which his movies seem rushed , instead of doing the work faster , learning the pace of the rest of the cast and crew will benifit Akshay more than enough to him starting another wave like what shah rukh khan had

We are talking about a man who had the attention of everybody in a 5 minute cameo featuring some legendary actors (Rolex Sir in Vikram).🙇♀ Suriya's performance in Soorarai Pottru cannot be replicated anywhere. People can keep making remakes if they like. But that film is the G.O.A.T., and no business prospect can take that away.
P.S. As a fan of Akshay's comic timing, I really wish he takes a break to reinvent himself. Look at how the break paid off for SRK last year.

Solution for Akshay is very simple take a break for at least one year or max 2 years and return to the big screen in a Negative role opposite a young generation actor playing protagonist.Back then when he did Ajnabee movie playing negative role opposite Bobby Deol he overshadowed bobby who played protagonist in the film and also won awards for that role
