That's amazing seeing the old hankies. I still have all mine from the 60's, still neatly ironed and folded by my mum probably 60 years ago! Didn't use them very often!
Great video. Brought back memories of buttercup syrup, pea souper fog and going to school wearing a balaclava and out mittens sewn onto a length of elastic and safety pinned into our annoraks. Have a lovely Christmas 🧑🎄
Merry Christmas, mate. Love these videos. Always share the with my big bruv. Great laugh. Just one our nan did. A bottle of camphor oil warmed in front of the open fire, then rubbed on our chests. It smelt lovely . We're in our mid 60s now. Take care.
Remember buttercup syrup being the biggest help in our house but it's so expensive now remember all those green bogies and crispy sleeves frost mornings but didn't stop us playing out good old days my friend thank you for the memories take care get well soon and a merry Christmas to you and all your family and happy new year see you in 2024🎄🎄🎉🎊Peter t darlington 🎅🎅🎅
As a 60’s child, the winter bugs, cough & colds remedies in our house were: Honey, lemon & glycerine, which was bought in a bottle from Boots and was delicious, which was given by the teaspoon, as was raspberry vinegar & olive oil. My mom also every winter gave us Haliborange Vit C tablets, which were so orangey tasting and delicious, like sucking a sweet. Vicks was a winter staple and if we were ill she’d do us a hot toddy of lemons, the zest and plenty of honey topped up with hot, not boiling water and left to steep. Arrowroot biscuits were in the cupboard in case we had a tummy bug.
All I remember about colds was the sore red nose you got from using hankies, worse than the cold itself, lol, Merry Christmas Sixties Child and a Happy New Year to one and all.
Aww hope you feel better soon. I used to get a pack of those pretty hankies every xmas, our mum used to give us buttercup syrup, also cough candy and winter mixture sweets and zubes.
I don’t think I had many colds as a kid. The winters were so cold. No CH or AC You went to school in feet of snow and you played out in it If I did my mom would give me honey and lemon. However I do remember buttercup syrup and we always had drawfuls of cotton handkerchiefs I remember getting Chicken Pox when I was around 10-11 2 weeks off school I think I had mumps when I was around 8 ish but hot over it 🇬🇧🇬🇧👍 👍 ❤️❤️🏴🏴
