'You can call me General.' Such a cold line. Well done to the writers on that. Also, yay Penny! I remember being so thrilled watching her become the Winter Maiden. She definitely deserved it.
There is a theory, not sure if it's ever been confirmed, that acquiring the Maiden's Power was the original purpose of Penny's creation. Yes she is an android with a soul, which is what allows her to get the power. Like you guys mentioned Penny probably cannot die a normal biological death, something that Ironwood was dealing with when it came to the Winter Maiden. So placing the power in an android could keep it in one place for much longer than a single lifetime, something Oz would probably appreciate. Back in Volume 2 Penny even told Ruby that "One day she will save the world." and then mentions Ironwood not believing in the peace the world was in. I'm guessing when Penny "died" at the Vytal festival, Ironwood switched to having Winter taking on the powers, something Winter even mentions to Weiss in an earlier episode of this volume. Penny is one of my favorite characters of the entire show.
My understanding is that it's not so cut and dry, so kinda yes, but also no. Penny was made as part of the work as Atlas studied aura, figuring out what it is and what they can do with it. Pietro figured out how to split off a piece of his own aura and give it independence and its own personality by attaching it to a robotic body. As we learned with Pyrrha, that piece of aura is what the maiden powers attach to, not necessarily the personality or body, though the connections between the two are still not well understood. When Penny "died" at Beacon the piece of aura that was attached to that body was lost, leaving Pietro no choice but to rebuild her using a new piece of his own aura. He had to use a new chunk of aura even though her memories were recovered with whatever pieces were salvaged from her old body. If this rebuilt Penny is similarly destroyed then that would theoretically count as "death" for the maiden rules. She may be immune to old age, but she can still receive lethal wounds if you hit her hard enough. As for whether Penny was intended to eventually become the next maiden before the fall of Beacon, there is some ambiguity there. There are several options for how to interpret what Ironwood said, from directly using the Penny we know to receive the aura much the same way Pyrrha did and having her artificially become the maiden, to her naturally receiving the powers much the same way Winter is now intended to receive them, to using Penny as a platform for learning how to make a new body to receive the aura from the current maiden thus giving the new robot the maiden powers, or the more metaphorical interpretation where Penny becomes the source of the knowledge needed to do such aura manipulation and enable them to control who becomes maidens long term which Ironwood thinks would potentially save the world in the war against Salem that he believes is inevitable. I personally like the most literal interpretation where Penny directly becomes the Winter Maiden, but it's not clear cut.
. Agree that its not so cut and dry. For me it was the conversation that Glynda and Qrow shared with Pyrrah in the vault in volume 3. They mentioned Atlas tech being able to manipulate aura and "Cram it into something". I took that as the narrative foreshadowing that penny or beings like her were intended ro become permanent maidens that would not succumb to death and yield, for Ironwood, more controllable "pieces".
@@grantharriman284Also dunno if it's been mentioned , but Ive suspected that the technology that transfers aura in the machines is closer to the mechanics of the grimm that cinder used than the abilities of Pietro to transfer it. There's some darker theories I have concerning this. Clearly Salem knows about aura transfer from her dealings with Ozpin and the maidens. And she did say she wants to replace humanity with what "they could never be".
@@JAERepair We know Pietro and Watts used to work together. Watts almost certainly shared that knowledge with Salem. Pietro uses metal tech, Salem uses Grimm. Same idea.
One thing that's so timely with Ozpin's speech about feat near the end: When this episode came out, the lockdowns due to Covid started to happen. There was so much uncertainty and fear (as we all most likely remember), and Oz's speech really spoke to me during those times.
Another contemporaneous note, this was also around the time the first season of Re:Zero (anime) was ending and so the audience was already primed for giant flying whales.....
Ironwood quickdrawing on Oscar not only shows how his mind is set, but Oz isn't there in that moment, hasn't been all volume, he's so locked in to his course he straight up shoots a child.
Yeah, CRWBY has said there was no post credits scene because they think of volumes 7 and 8 as all one volume, and really, you can't top Salem's arrival.
Winter's flying summon is a Manticore. We saw RWBY fight one at the start of Volume 6, on top of the train. Keep in mind, Oscar's been fighting Neo on his own long before JNR showed up. He's exhausted, so it's understandable he's not running at full speed... Jessica Nigri (Cinder's VA) did an incredible job this episode, conveying the anger and pain that Cinder was feeling. Definitely one of her best performances!
"What did she hit her with?" Just a fireball, but it was enough to break Winters aura. No aura, no semblance remember, so after that Winters summons were done and she couldn't prevent her fall. On Penny and souls; recall, Penny is the first synthetic person capable of generating an aura. An aura IS a soul, so Penny has always had one, and we were told earlier this season it's literally a piece of her dads soul. The reason he's sick is because he gave up two pieces of it, one for her first life, and one to bring her back after season 3. The Maiden powers bond to a persons aura/soul, so it was always possible for Penny to become a Maiden. Technically, any animal could as well, since all life except Grimm have souls. Which leads us to Cinders arm; "Cinder seemed to be in excruciating agony." Well, yes, her arm is Grimm, and thus, can't have aura projected around it. Raven pointed that out when they clashed and shards of her dust swords got stuck in her arm. That's why having it cut off would absolutely suck for her.
Yeah think we still get confused/forget about auras. And how that’s connected to semblance. Feels like we need a world of remnant refresher now that we have more knowledge on the show 😅
Point to add is that Grimm is pure destructive force. Her arm fundamentally hates her. Remember her training with Salem: "you must make it dread you". I suspect having it cut so suddenly caused Cinder to lose her control over it, probably had to literally fight it to regain dominance, else be destroyed by it.
5:05 Oscar was so slow because who knows how long he was running and hiding from Neo before the others showed up. He's tired and while he has been training he still is far behind the others. 20:35 The quote was Franklin Roosevelt during his first inaugural address. Penny does have a soul. That's what aura is ("Aura is the manifestation of our soul" -Pyrrha) and Penny said when we found out she was an android that she's "the world's first synthetic person capable of producing an aura" and earlier in this volume we learned that Pietro used part of his aura to give Penny an aura and he doesn't have enough of his own left to rebuild her again.
Yes, Maiden power is attached to Aura, which is said to be the physical manifestation of the soul. Penny always had an Aura, but she was raised into Atlas' more scientific view on it. The more interesting part of this is what it means about the "female only" rule. It obviously doesn't mean from any biological sense, and it doesn't seem to be an inherent quality of Aura either because Penny's is derived directly from her father's. It seems to be about actual identity, which I just think is pretty neat.
10:51 a cool little detail from the soundtrack! ken clocked oscar standing like ozpin, but something i LOVE about the music here is that it is oscar and ozpin's themes blended together!!
So it’s great that you’re on board with where things are going. RWBY loses fans at the end of volume 3 and here. You’ll have seen some of 8 already but it really spotlights some of the under-served characters like Ruby and Nora. Penny getting the power confirms that even though her Aura started as Pietro’s, the rules of the Universe consider it hers now. She has the soul of a young woman and can inherit the power. Your motif trivia of the week: the song playing in the Neo fight is a re-arrangement of the Yang v Neo train fight.
So 27:34 that smoke arm things is Shadow Hands: a Creatures of Grimm that are parasitic in nature. Unlike most Grimm, Shadow Hands take the form of arms.Salem is capable of summoning and controlling them on command. She also used one to replace Cinder Fall's left arm after her defeat at the Fall of Beacon. Cinder's Shadow Hand uses the same model as a Geist arm.Salem's Shadow Hands use the Geist arm design in Volume 6 and the Imp design in Volume 8.A red glyph is used when Salem summons Shadow Hands. The same glyph is also used when the Petra Gigas summons an arm.In The World of RWBY: The Official Companion, it is stated that they don't come from another specific Grimm. As seen during Cinder and Salem's training, Salem stated that Cinder had to make her new limb respect and fear her, hinting that despite it only being a arm, Cinder's new appendage had sentience independent from her.Cinder's Shadow Hand appears to be connected to her nerves like a normal arm. Unlike other prosthetics, she can still feel pain, despite it being made of Grimm which have different biology than Humans.Due to its connection to Salem, it’s possible the arm itself is used by her to keep tabs on Cinder, due to being aware that she was still alive after her defeat at Haven.
Glad to see some apreciation to Ironwood. Yes, he finally snaped and he's now more a villian than one of our heros but he really went throught a long journey and, at least, he really tried so hard to do (what he thought) was correct and save everyone but nothing went right for him. Failure after failure, loss after loss, just for a so called "victory" that didn't last long can break almost everyone, so I, at least, don't really blame him for all that's happening (and that will happen)-
Id say it still wasnt was bad as the month long wait since V3 episode 6 that was so soul draining i swear Attack on Titan's second season came out faster.
@@DefinitelyNotDefinitive2it happened when I was in college it was literally a heavy shock and gave me a boatload of anxiety and stress but also excitement ya know?
Love that penny became the maiden cuz its means she's been human all along. And it reinforces what Ruby said in volume 2: that just because you're not a human in the physical sense doesn't mean you're not human on the inside
Multiple things: 1) the fight between Winter and Penny vs. Cinder was spectacular and the entire sequence when Enemy of Trust (ost) was playing it kept me on the edge of my seat 2) the portrayal of Freya (the winter maiden) honestly made me cry... as I'm sure it made other people who lost their loved ones through dementia or Alzheimer... Her screen time was short but powerful. RIP *3)* Not gonna go into details (I will remind you of this thing in the future XD) but notice that when Penny (15:29) says "She's gone," Winter says "No, she's a part of you now" - you might want to remember that 4) 19:45 not gonna lie, when WoW introduced Xal'atath in the trailers for the War Within I got massive Salem vibes especially with her smirk here at the end 5) Penny inheriting the power proved that she truly has a soul and that she is indeed human underneath her "shell" 6) I am SO GLAD you guys understand Ironwood's journey/decent... many people complain that him "shifting sides" was too sudden and completely out of character... like were these people paying attention throughout this volume? XD 7) buckle up for V8
Only 2 more volumes until you're caught up! And Neo is arguably one of the strongest characters in the series. She straight up clowned on Yang, and only retreated because Raven showed up. Her only other 'loss' was her and Torchwick against Ruby, and that was on technicality, since she was removed from the battle field. After that is nothing but a streak of straight W's, even 1v1ing a maiden to the point that Cinder tried to de-escalate first. The ONLY time Cinder has ever tried to end a fight with diplomacy. Neo the GOAT
What's also cool is that there's nothing special about her. She's not a maiden, she's not a silver-eyed warrior, she's not enhanced by Salem, she's not a protag with plot armor, or anything like that. She's really just a good fighter.
Make no mistake, Cinder could’ve absolutely wrecked Neo in that fight even without Maiden powers if she wanted to, but she wanted to re-recruit her and tried a less aggressive route. But when Neo proved herself beyond reasoning, Cinder promptly and instantly shut her down and set her straight. If Cinder had no use for Neo, Neo would not have survived that attack on her former boss.
I love Ozpin's calm, professorial voice during his monologue....it's a gentle rebuke to all of Ironwood's philosophy. What he *should* have done....."Will you forgive them? (Team RWBY) Will you understand why they felt the need to do the things they did? (tell Robyn about Amity, etc)"....
Gotta love the raw fear in Cinder's eyes when Ruby shows up and just silver eye blasts her without a second thought. Cinder knew it was coming and yeeted herself out of there to avoid it.
That’s gotta be so frustrating for Cinder, knowing that she could end Ruby and her friends with ease, if only she didn’t have the one ability that the Grimm part of her is highly susceptible to.
Something MASSIVE to understand going forward into the next two volumes is that everything in the next twenty-four episodes takes place over the course of FIVE DAYS, Volume 8 taking place over 2 and a half days and the same with Volume 9. Our group has gone through the last few episodes in the course of one night, and with everything going on, it should be understood that none of us would act rationally. Anxiety, tension, fear, and dread would be hanging over the heads of every single person on either side of the fight, being monumentally exhausted already, with so much yet to happen. I'm really happy so far that you two have seen this show through and actually seen what this show is trying to convey, where so many others have it misconstrued and warped by their own personal ideals. I really hope that you see Volume Eight as I did when it came out; that being the best the show has had to offer since Volume 3 without a shadow of a doubt, even surpassing it in some aspects. I hope ya'll enjoy, and are thoroughly traumatized like the rest of us 😅
@@butterflywarrioredits Nope. The main events that Team RWBY goes through in V9 take place over 2 and a half days. The directors and writers confirmed that.
Fun Facts Fact 1: Unlike previous finales, this episode did not have a post-credits scene. This is because the crew wanted to focus their efforts on the episodes themselves and avoid going into "crunch time" to spare the animators from being overworked. In lieu of a post-credits scene, a tribute to RWBY creator Monty Oum was used instead, as the episode aired on the fifth anniversary since the day of his passing. Fact 2: The episode title alludes to the emotion of Fear. Fact 3: Ozpin makes his return after hearing Oscar's words to Ironwood, finding the bravery to come back. Fact 4: One idea the crew had for the battle between Penny, Winter, and Cinder would have shown Cinder using her Maiden powers to bring the fallen AK-200s back to life to face Penny, as a puppet joke. Instead, it was changed so that she would break through the walls when she found them. Fact 4: In one script, one of the Aura transfer machine pods was going to be broken, with the one with Fria being intact. But because Penny is a robot, she could 'remote-interface in' and get the powers. But that still felt like stealing, and they didn't want to go that route. Furthermore, the crew had a lot of talks about how the Maiden powers would be transferred. They debated if Penny would have to kill Fria. Fact 5: In the episode, Ironwood was still expecting Oz to appear, waiting for guidance. The scene where he argues with Oscar was the final scene they wrote this episode. Fact 6: Miles Luna cried during the voice over session for Fria's scenes for the episode. Fact 7: There was one line in Ozpin's monologue that the writers were struggling with for a whole day. Fact 8: The writers loved the idea of ending the Volume on an almost identical shot from where they started.
It could be argued that Jaune did too with his shield's gravity dust blast, knocked her back from Oscar. He didn't make direct contact but did hit her as intended.
The power of the maidens is transferred from aura (soul) to aura. Guys, seriously you forgot that Penny is unique precisely because is the first sentient android with an real aura??? Thats why Penny is so special in the first place, we know this from season 2, and a couple of episodes ago Pietro told us that he achived this (give a soul to a machine) by sacrificing part of his own soul (that's why you cant simply rebuild Penny infinite times, eventually Pietro's soul may run out).
The speech at the end as Ozpin/Oscar are falling reminds me of a lot of the opening and closing monologues from the X-Men Movies. It was a really emotional and moving scene. But the speech itself was chilling…in a good way.
in terms of penny/maiden stuff, it works pretty much like normal, the maiden powers attach to aura, and penny is special because she has an aura, this was demonstrated when they were trying to give ambers aura to pyhrra so theoretically penny v2 is actually a different penny just with all the same memories (there's some philosophy for ppl to argue about XD), since they needed to give more of piedros aura to provide hers, so it's a new aura, so if penny was a maiden in season 3, the power would have moved on when she and her aura was destroyed
I was always of the belief that Ironwood was interested in the Penny project so that she could take the maiden powers. Love Cinder's freakout there! Such a rabid villain. And now we prepare for a season of despair, truly. Salem is here >:)
Should Cinder ever return to the levels of control and cold calculation that she embodied in the first three Volumes, both the heroes’ side *_and_* Salem’s side will be in terrible danger. 😈
I love that Ruby doesn't cajole Penny into coming and Winter doesn't order her to stay. They both let Penny decide....and Penny decides to stick with her friends.
It is at this time in the series that I can FINALLY suggest viewing one of the finest fan-made videos about RWBY, the amazing "Broken Inside 2" by HJM Edits. It serves perfectly as a recap/refresher for what has gone before.
"The single quality that is common across every living creature on this planet, is fear... It's funny, then, that as common as fear is, we so easily underestimate it's power. Fear of growing close to someone, the subsequent fear of loss. Fear of faliure. And as more people depend on you, those fears can take on greater power. But the fear itself isn't worthy of concern. It is who we become while in it's clutches. Will you be proud of that person? Will you forgive them? Will you understand why they felt the need to do the things they did? Will you even recognize them, or will the person staring back at you be the very thing you should have feared from the start? I suppose we all find out, sooner or later."
Wonderful reaction and discussion, as always! I forget how much I love this finale~ Mmm, good eye on Neo and Cinder's interaction at the end there... 😉
So im not gonna spoil it yet, but incase you might be wondering, does Ironwood have a semblance? Yes he does. And you've seen it already. So i wanna see if you can figure it out while watching the next volume. If not i'll let you know at the next finale.
Wooooooot ! I’m so glad you made it this far !! Was waiting since season 1 for you to complete this season 7 !! Glad you liked it and can’t wait to see your reac for next volume !
Oh that was sweet! "The single quality that is common across every living creature on this planet, is fear..." (cut to commercial for the new Alien movie) :O
00:03:00 "They broke her" - We've seen Neo's illusions shattering like this before, as far back as series 2 I think. Also you're right, Neo IS the best of the bad guys :D
Loved hearing Bethany express the _exact_ sentiment of the creators re: an end credits scene. You can't put anything after Salem rolling up in force like that. You two are really locked in to the way this show is and it's great to follow along with you.
The speech regarding fear definitely is one to remember Also Monstra the giant Grimm whale is such a creepy design, I love it.....but also terrified of it lol
I honestly think this was Jessica Nigri’s best performance so far as Cinder. The first time we’ve heard her sound so desperate. Most reactors I'd watched go from “oh no” to “oh, her hair’s down” in like… a split second while Winter is getting her butt kicked. Every time. Never fails. Poor Winter. Lol I really had missed hearing Shannon as Oz. His speech about fear is just… so excellent. I think it was also one of the last bits the writers finalized for the volume because they were having such a tricky time with it. If I’m remembering correctly. I really loved this volume. Not as much as 6, which was my favorite at the time, but it was close. It’s a real testament to how far the crew have come though. The only things I would have liked to see more of was RWBY and the Ace Ops having more bonding time. Really would have made episode 12 hit harder, you know? They did the best with what time they had though, so I’ll let them have it.
Not sure if it's been mentioned in a comments but Jaune's team hasn't been given an official name, but a commonly fan accepted name is "ORNJ" or "JORN" Depending on who you think the leader is/should be
Penny does have a Soul....even though its a fragment....but its been a Debate among fans and haters or people try so hard to add logics......i say....let the show be...not everything has to make sense...small example Tom & jerry injuries and stuff dont make sense yet its fun to watch
Yes Penny has a soul, the soul is tied to a persons Aura, she has aura from her dad, her body may be robotic but she is actually a person. Penny is ideally suited to be a Maiden, she could in fact hold the power for Centuries or even longer. You’ll just have to wait and see what happens next.
Technically Penny is a gynoid rather than an android....her form is female not male....but yeah. If you notice, Pietro upgraded her from the body of a girl to the body of a young woman. She looks as if she's aged just like her Beacon peers....longer hair, more womanly form, etc.
Say hello to Richard the Monstro Grimm and as to why Penny can have the winter maiden power is I believe is the same way she can generate aura by siphoning it from someone else.
Well, Ken & Beth......"ARE YOU NOT ENTERAINED?!?" 🤣 First, it was FDR who said 'The only thing we half to fear is fear itself!' 1933, I think. Next, the way this Volume ended was fitting. It fully sets the stage for the longest couple of days in the modern history of Remnant. It's best way the describe Volume 8. I will add one bit of rl context for Volume 8 to remember..... It was being made during the beginning of the COVID epidemic and its impact PLUS at it's halfway point, a devastating Ice Storm hit all of Texas!! Shutting down RT for several weeks. Despite all of this, CRWBY still gave us one of the best Volumes of the series. A true testament to their love of this show, in my mind. So, get your selves ready...... The rollercoaster ride that is RWBY is about go wild!! The Battle of Atlas/Mantle is at hand....🫡🌹❄️🖤🔥🙏🏿
Maiden Penny💚💚💚 Just a heads up the storm/ shadows that arrived with Salem are caused by a type of grimm called tempest, they are huge jellyfish and the giant whale has been named Richard by the fandom as Richard = Dick = Moby Dick
Well we are far ahead on our reactions. A month ahead on Patreon. So at this time, it was still available on crunchy roll. We had to move to a DVD now though 🤗
I understand Ironwood at the beginning, as someone with as much power and influence as him he can't really afford to make as much mistakes as team RWBY who even through all they've been through are still children, everything after that however heck no.
Another journey finished, it was spectacular from start to finish, this season is full of incredible and emotional moments, I can't wait for the soundtrack. I would like to remind you of some information. : - In episode 7, Pietro mentions to Ruby and Weiss that if Penny is destroyed once again, he probably won't be able to rebuild her since he gave her too much of his aura and he no longer has enough. - Cinder's arm is Grimm's, so Ruby's silver eyes react to her (I liked that they noticed Cinder's fear of Ruby haha 😂) - The force field Oscar uses to land is the one Ozpin uses in his battle with Cinder in volume 3. I don't speak English so I hope it's understood hahaha
@@DefinitelyNotDefinitive2 Oh it wasn't mentioned, I think it's possible but that implies that the other person becomes weaker like Pietro, we always see him coughing 😞
Technically, Cinder doesn’t fear Ruby, she fears the power of the Silver Eyes, as one of the only things that can potentially stop her. It myst be so frustrating for the Dark Maiden that that’s the only reason she hasn’t killed Ruby long ago.
Winter was using a Manticore.....not Griffin......the writer's were intending to make Ironwood a villain slowly but this felt very unclear and also because of the situation and lies....a paranoid general can become too much...whatever you want to call him.....weather this was a rushed idea or not remains to be seen.....a guy trying to do some duty without another type of head followed by important info can drive a guy distrustful and overdone
I always get those two confused or at least I always say a manticore is a Griffin. And Griffin is a Griffin. Guess I just forget about manticores somehow 😂😬
winter was riding a maticore summon the same beats team rwby and team ornj and qrow did fight on the train atho qrow was more fighting the sphinx also say hello to monstro yes the wrby comunity has named the whale grimm monstro
It sucks because ironwood is such a good “villain” I don’t necessarily think he’s wrong at all but it’s just the way he’s going about it also penny just has a robotic body but she has a soul and and aura the magic just attached to that

Forgot that it was a female only rule so you bring up a good point 🙂
Neo’s fighting style is just so graceful and cool to watch.
Facts 😁
oh look.....Salem brought the whale from Pinocchio or Moby Dick in a fight
It's named Monstra which is almost the name of the whale of Pinocchio (Monstro)
10:51 a cool little detail from the soundtrack! ken clocked oscar standing like ozpin, but something i LOVE about the music here is that it is oscar and ozpin's themes blended together!!
Oh nice! They do such a good job with the music in this series 😀
Love the rearrangements in songs they do 😀
@@DefinitelyNotDefinitive2this show didn’t deserve to lose its fans I honestly saw nothing wrong with the volumes at all so I don’t get the hatred
This will always be my favorite finale episode. So much happens all once
It was pretty great 🤩
So 27:34 that smoke arm things is
Shadow Hands: a Creatures of Grimm that are parasitic in nature.
Thanks for all this info on shadow hands 😯😀😈
The Oscar Falling/Penny claiming the power is one of my favourite scenes- if not my favourite. The score is just *chefs kiss*
17:27 Yang "Ohhhh... the hell did I walk into here?". If you think Ironwoods decent is done now... he has still further ways to go down
Uh oh 😟
Glad to see some apreciation to Ironwood. Yes, he finally snaped and he's now more a villian than one of our heros but he really went throught a long journey and, at least, he really tried so hard to do (what he thought) was correct and save everyone but nothing went right for him. Failure after failure, loss after loss, just for a so called "victory" that didn't last long can break almost everyone, so I, at least, don't really blame him for all that's happening (and that will happen)-
He’s not a terrible person. Just someone pushed too far and finally snapped. 😕😢
Imagine seeing that ending then having to wait for the next volume
That would suck 😱 glad we can just go right in 😅
Id say it still wasnt was bad as the month long wait since V3 episode 6 that was so soul draining i swear Attack on Titan's second season came out faster.
AoT had a massive studio behind it
@@DefinitelyNotDefinitive2it happened when I was in college it was literally a heavy shock and gave me a boatload of anxiety and stress but also excitement ya know?
19:39 She over here like - 'Okay, I pull up, hop out at the after party'
Love that penny became the maiden cuz its means she's been human all along. And it reinforces what Ruby said in volume 2: that just because you're not a human in the physical sense doesn't mean you're not human on the inside
Fria awakening and the Fear speech are some of my favorite RWBY moments.
Fear speech was so damn good 🤩
Multiple things:
1) the fight between Winter and Penny vs. Cinder was spectacular and the entire sequence when Enemy of Trust (ost) was playing it kept me on the edge of my seat
2) the portrayal of Freya (the winter maiden) honestly made me cry... as I'm sure it made other people who lost their loved ones through dementia or Alzheimer... Her screen time was short but powerful. RIP
*3)* Not gonna go into details (I will remind you of this thing in the future XD) but notice that when Penny (15:29) says "She's gone," Winter says "No, she's a part of you now" - you might want to remember that
4) 19:45 not gonna lie, when WoW introduced Xal'atath in the trailers for the War Within I got massive Salem vibes especially with her smirk here at the end
5) Penny inheriting the power proved that she truly has a soul and that she is indeed human underneath her "shell"
6) I am SO GLAD you guys understand Ironwood's journey/decent... many people complain that him "shifting sides" was too sudden and completely out of character... like were these people paying attention throughout this volume? XD
7) buckle up for V8
Buckled and ready 😎🤘
Only 2 more volumes until you're caught up! And Neo is arguably one of the strongest characters in the series. She straight up clowned on Yang, and only retreated because Raven showed up. Her only other 'loss' was her and Torchwick against Ruby, and that was on technicality, since she was removed from the battle field. After that is nothing but a streak of straight W's, even 1v1ing a maiden to the point that Cinder tried to de-escalate first. The ONLY time Cinder has ever tried to end a fight with diplomacy. Neo the GOAT
She’s so damn cool 🤩
2 more volumes and then they'll be able to watch the show live with us.
Yep 😁
I hope ya'll enjoy, and are thoroughly traumatized like the rest of us 😅
Granted there is a time difference for places in V9
@@butterflywarrioredits Nope. The main events that Team RWBY goes through in V9 take place over 2 and a half days. The directors and writers confirmed that.
THIS, very important piece of information that gets forgotten when you watch the chapters/episodes weekly
There's a time skip after V9 though.
😂 never had someone hope for our trauma. But we get what you mean 😜😇 we are invested in the characters and story so no doubt some pain is coming 😱
Fun Facts
Fact 1: Unlike previous finales, this episode did not have a post-credits scene.
Yeah Ironwood really needed Oz’s guidance though at this point he was most likely too far gone to even hear good advice from Oz 😢
Volume 7 and 8 are the best writing in the show to me the characterizations were fantastic and the chain of events flow perfectly.
Looking forward to 8 😀
@@DefinitelyNotDefinitive2just wait until 9
Such a amazing cliffhanger finale
😁🤩
I'm pretty sure Oscar is the only one to land a hit on Neo. Punched her out of her disguise. W Best Boi!
Oscar is the second. The first is Cinder during their Bar-fight.
😎💪
It could be argued that Jaune did too with his shield's gravity dust blast, knocked her back from Oscar. He didn't make direct contact but did hit her as intended.
Ozpin set the rules back in vol 3, when he tells Qrow “Maddens choose themselves “
I think we just forgot that an aura is a soul 🤗🙃
Do remember that penny has a soul since she has an Aura. Although that does raise some questions since her Aura does technically come from her father.
When I hear ozpins speech at the end, it reminds me a little of the speach Charles Xavier makes in the intro of the x men movies
Good call 😯😀
Fun Fact: Fria's name is a reference to the Blue Faerie that gave Pinocchio (Penny's inspiration) life.
The speech at the end as Ozpin/Oscar are falling reminds me of a lot of the opening and closing monologues from the X-Men Movies. It was a really emotional and moving scene. But the speech itself was chilling…in a good way.
Volume 7 for sure set up the tone for V8 😔🙏
Absolutely. Also, Kikkeriki!
in terms of penny/maiden stuff, it works pretty much like normal, the maiden powers attach to aura, and penny is special because she has an aura, this was demonstrated when they were trying to give ambers aura to pyhrra
so theoretically penny v2 is actually a different penny just with all the same memories (there's some philosophy for ppl to argue about XD), since they needed to give more of piedros aura to provide hers, so it's a new aura, so if penny was a maiden in season 3, the power would have moved on when she and her aura was destroyed
Thanks for summarizing that for us 🙂
14:55 this is one of my favourite song’s definitely top 3
I was always of the belief that Ironwood was interested in the Penny project so that she could take the maiden powers.
Love Cinder's freakout there! Such a rabid villain. And now we prepare for a season of despair, truly. Salem is here >:)
Rabid villain. Great description for Cinder 😯😀
Should Cinder ever return to the levels of control and cold calculation that she embodied in the first three Volumes, both the heroes’ side *_and_* Salem’s side will be in terrible danger. 😈
20:35 It was one of the Roosevelts, but not Teddy. It was the other one, Franklin Delano.
Got our initial Presidents mixed up.JFK and FDR 🙃🤗
I love that Ruby doesn't cajole Penny into coming and Winter doesn't order her to stay. They both let Penny decide....and Penny decides to stick with her friends.
😊
It is at this time in the series that I can FINALLY suggest viewing one of the finest fan-made videos about RWBY, the amazing "Broken Inside 2" by HJM Edits. It serves perfectly as a recap/refresher for what has gone before.
Thanks for the recommendation 🙂
Excellent suggestion!! One of my favorite AMV series for RWBY. 😎👍🏿
The accompaning song 'Fear' was pitch perfect for the final scene!!
Wonderful reaction and discussion, as always! I forget how much I love this finale~
Mmm, good eye on Neo and Cinder's interaction at the end there... 😉
Glad you enjoyed it! 😀
So im not gonna spoil it yet, but incase you might be wondering, does Ironwood have a semblance? Yes he does. And you've seen it already. So i wanna see if you can figure it out while watching the next volume. If not i'll let you know at the next finale.
They've already been told about Mettle lol, not that there's anything in the show itself that would reveal that.
@@theuone8828 oh they were? My bad. I was catching up so must've slipped past me

The Fear speech (especially narrated by Ozpin's VA) is an easily G.O.A.T.ed speech
Facts 🤩
Loved hearing Bethany express the _exact_ sentiment of the creators re: an end credits scene. You can't put anything after Salem rolling up in force like that. You two are really locked in to the way this show is and it's great to follow along with you.
Thanks so much! Glad you are enjoying the reactions and discussions 😀
The speech regarding fear definitely is one to remember
Also Monstra the giant Grimm whale is such a creepy design, I love it.....but also terrified of it lol
Yep. Love the design and glad it isn’t real because it’s terrifying 😱
Ozin's speech about fear is one of my favorite things from this volume
Yeah it was so well written 🤩
I honestly think this was Jessica Nigri’s best performance so far as Cinder. The first time we’ve heard her sound so desperate.
Most reactors I'd watched go from “oh no” to “oh, her hair’s down” in like… a split second while Winter is getting her butt kicked. Every time. Never fails. Poor Winter. Lol
I really had missed hearing Shannon as Oz.
Favorite at the time. So that means 8 or 9 surpassed it 🤔😛
@DefinitelyNotDefinitive2 😁
Not sure if it's been mentioned in a comments but Jaune's team hasn't been given an official name, but a commonly fan accepted name is "ORNJ" or "JORN" Depending on who you think the leader is/should be
JORN works 🤔🙂

Yeah we are dealing with a magical world. Sometimes things just aren’t going to make logical sense. 🤗
Now comes in my opinion one of the best seasons. With the emotional damage
Salem is here, Bye bye altas.
Yeah… 😱
Yes Penny has a soul, the soul is tied to a persons Aura, she has aura from her dad, her body may be robotic but she is actually a person. Penny is ideally suited to be a Maiden, she could in fact hold the power for Centuries or even longer. You’ll just have to wait and see what happens next.
Neo never lost in a fight.. and thats why she's the best girl 😂
She’s just so damn cool 🤩
Technically Penny is a gynoid rather than an android....her form is female not male....but yeah. If you notice, Pietro upgraded her from the body of a girl to the body of a young woman. She looks as if she's aged just like her Beacon peers....longer hair, more womanly form, etc.
Say hello to Richard the Monstro Grimm and as to why Penny can have the winter maiden power is I believe is the same way she can generate aura by siphoning it from someone else.
😎👍🙂

Well, Ken & Beth......"ARE YOU NOT ENTERAINED?!?" 🤣
First, it was FDR who said 'The only thing we half to fear is fear itself!' 1933, I think.
Yeah not sure how we forgot it was FDR 🤪

Just a heads up the storm/ shadows that arrived with Salem are caused by a type of grimm called tempest, they are huge jellyfish and the giant whale has been named Richard by the fandom as Richard = Dick = Moby Dick
I'm curioua where you guys are even watching RWBY from right now that you can move through it with a tv remote.
Well we are far ahead on our reactions. A month ahead on Patreon. So at this time, it was still available on crunchy roll. We had to move to a DVD now though 🤗
@@DefinitelyNotDefinitive2 Well congrats on probably being the only reactors not using some random third party site to do your reactions.
bathany looking super worried and ken is just like 😁😁😁 yes finally! is so funny 🤣
I understand Ironwood at the beginning, as someone with as much power and influence as him he can't really afford to make as much mistakes as team RWBY who even through all they've been through are still children, everything after that however heck no.
I know it isn’t funny but there’s something about how fast James shoots and Ruby activating her eyes that gets me. Like damn, zero hesitation.
Another journey finished, it was spectacular from start to finish, this season is full of incredible and emotional moments, I can't wait for the soundtrack.
I would like to remind you of some information. :
- In episode 7, Pietro mentions to Ruby and Weiss that if Penny is destroyed once again, he probably won't be able to rebuild her since he gave her too much of his aura and he no longer has enough.
- Cinder's arm is Grimm's, so Ruby's silver eyes react to her (I liked that they noticed Cinder's fear of Ruby haha 😂)
- The force field Oscar uses to land is the one Ozpin uses in his battle with Cinder in volume 3.
I don't speak English so I hope it's understood hahaha
But could Pietro give Penny someone else’s aura when building her 🤔 not sure if that was ever mentioned or not 🤗
@@DefinitelyNotDefinitive2 Oh it wasn't mentioned, I think it's possible but that implies that the other person becomes weaker like Pietro, we always see him coughing 😞
Technically, Cinder doesn’t fear Ruby, she fears the power of the Silver Eyes, as one of the only things that can potentially stop her. It myst be so frustrating for the Dark Maiden that that’s the only reason she hasn’t killed Ruby long ago.
Love all of team RWBY but Yang is my Girl!

Neo is easily the best bad guy. They never gave us enough of her.
Facts! But at the same time. Less is more. And part of her badassery is the mystery and small doses 🙂
