Honestly I love how in game theres 3 areas for the music to change, , With it without Channel 1+2, with Channel 1, and with Channel 1+2 (As you get deeper into the level.
I've seen it before on the DS with NSMB's overworld theme but I didn't know that having multiple notes play on one channel was a thing since the N64. The only other instances of this I can recall from even farther back in time are Sonic 3's Launch Base Zone and Ristar's Ru-Di--Da! but those were pre-sampled instances for the PCMs, specifically for the drums. Also shoutouts to Channel 3 for barely being audible at all, genuinely didn't know there was a 4th instrument playing until this video.
Well, Channel 0 (or the electric piano) actually used 2 channels! It’s quite impressive that the N64 actually handled this, since it didn’t even have dedicated sound hardware, so all of the sounds used CPU, which combined with SM64s physics, collision, and other things for the CPU to Calculate, it’s quite impressive that it even runs Dire Dire Docks and that one other water level, since those places are quite taxing on OG hardware.
in game it uses a more subtle bass instrument but it isn't in any sm64 midi soundfont. the one in the video is a slap bass. edit: it's the "bass+lead" in the soundfont
Broooooooo this is top 5 my favorite kind of content I LOVE to see, your work is just magnificent! Especially at 1:44 WHY IS IT SO GOOD!!?? Even with the main beat involved in it too(Right here, 4:45)! Awww bro, I can't stop rewinding these timestamps, I rlly hope you make more, you have earned a new subscriber 😄😄😄
Technically the PAL version would be too slow since the developers were using NTSC but I understand that you're just looking for what you remember as a kid. I grew up in North America and this doesn't sound any slower to me though
3 Issues with this video that i have noticed as an SM64 modder for music and what not, 1. The bass is completely off, this should've used HMC Lead, This is using slap bass, 2. The reverb isn't present in the N64 version, 3. The snare is wrong. but i wanna point out the differences in this video as its not completely accurate.
It's not and it's the soundfont's fault. It's supposed to be 'electric picked bass' but in it it's just the same as slap bass. The proper one *is* in the soundfont but is marked as 'bass+lead'
This is such a great first oscilloscope and deconstruction video! And you picked a great first song too. Hope you see more of this!
Thank you! I can’t wait to make more and have fun with these oscilloscope deconstruction videos.

I never realized the bass went so hard

@@mr.oscilloscope Indeed taxing it was, and Dire Dire Docks is famous for the lag it has. :-/
Also that "other water level" is Jolly Roger Bay.
The waveform is M-shaped. It used the Vanish Cap.
@@670839245 ironic part is, Jolly Roger Bay is my favorite water level, yet I can’t remember it. 😂
@@mr.oscilloscope what about channel 1? that clearly has more than one note at once!
I never knew Dire Dire Docks used a bass channel (Channel 3) until now.

it's slap bass
I would have never known there was a 4th instrument until seeing everything broken down!! I love this :)
I never really noticed the bass until now that’s crazy!
My favorite video game song of all time!! I was surprised to hear that most of the song comes from just one of the channels.
When it was just the first channel, I would have imagined that that was just the original song lol.
This song sooooo relaxing

The great fairy's theme would be awesome too!!
Starting the channel with a banger I see
i dont know how the hell u did this but this is AMAZING, hearing every different instrument in the song is so cool
Modified detuned EP 2 my beloved
Channel 0 is on the shore, Channel 0 and 1 is in water, all channels is in cave
It is in C Dorian/Mixolydian/Harmonic Major
Yes.
It's G mixolydian
Wait, it uses FOUR instruments? Holy fucking shit, I love this track even more now.
I like how you used the proper PAL version 😊 - the NTSC version is too fast!
Huh, odd. I ripped it from the original NTSC version, perhaps the game speeds it up?
what kind of NTSC version have you been hearing? as far as I can tell this is the speed I've always heard it at
Wait… the pal version plays slower? Something I noticed was that the official soundtrack plays back way faster than the ingame version…

How can you do that?
No se habló español latino pero bien eya
are you sure thats the right bass
