  • Greetings everyone, for a new and enhanced video format. As the Sonic Colors series of videos is coming to a closure, this is what I'll do with this brand of videos going forward: from now on I'll start by isolating small pieces of audio and then making my way through a complete build up of the track! Pretty much what carpathia808 does, if you're familiar with his content (if you're not, go check it out now! / carpathia808 . I was too nervous to do it this way in the past because some tracks mix a bunch of audio together and it can take a while to dissect it, but this has been fun doing in the little spare time I have so I'll keep pursuing.
As for the subject of the video, this is the version featured in Super Mario 64 DS and not the original. I'm still not comfortable when it comes to N64 audio files so I'm not gonna bother with that for now. You can definitely hear some differences, as with most other tracks from the game.
For this specific track, I also decided to stack up instruments like it does in-game, with the only difference being the third and last portion being split in half.
    00:00 - PCM 8 only
    01:29 - PCM 7 only
    03:00 - PCM 1 & 2 only
    04:20 - PCM 3, 4, 5 & 6 only
    06:00 - PCM 7 & 8 (Build-up starts here)
    07:30 - + PCM 1 & 2
    09:01 - + PCM 3 & 4
    10:31 - PCM 5 & 6 (Full track)
List of software I used to make this video:
    - Corrscope: github.com/corrscope/corrscope
    - VG Music Studio: github.com/Kermalis/VGMusicSt...

I know that Jolly Roger Bay and Dire, Dire Docks music changes dynamically when you're in Water and the Underwater Cave.

Oscilloscope deconstructions of FM-like synth music are so satisfying

Interesting, the n64 version uses a fretless bass, while the DS version uses a synth bass

I definitely prefer the DS version

Actually, both versions just use the Fretless Bass, not the Synth Bass.
