- This was Steve James debut at The Crucible Theatre and after making a break of 104 in frame 6, went on to compile this break in frame 8. David Vine presents and Ted Lowe is in the commentary box.
James was the only man to defeat Stephen Hendry at the Crucible between 1990 and 1997 when he knocked him out in the 1991 quarter final.
Great player he was

He made the Grand Prix final in the previous season, something of a late career renaissance.
Good player was rex

Rex played to his strengths, but wasn't a great player.
Steve James was a joy to watch. Had the talent to be a legend. Too bad the booze got the best of him.

Rex was just another one of the old fogies of snooker from the 50’s and 60’s who thought he could keep up with the modern game

He was a very capable player in the 80s and reached the Final of the Grand Prix in 1986 knocking out Higgins and Davis both 5-1 and Foulds in the semi 9-8 before losing 10-6 to Jimmy in the Final after leading 5-2
That’s a bit unfair. Rex was quite high in the rankings up till about 1990.
