  • A brief presentation on natural American Turquoise from the famous Morenci Turquoise mine in Southeastern Arizona. Dillon Hartman from Durango Silver Company gives examples of beautiful natural American Turquoise in rough, cabochon, and jewelry form. Learn a brief history of the mine as well.
The Morenci turquoise mine is located in Greenlee County, Arizona. The Morenci mine was initially mined for its copper deposits. Equipment operators would “lunch box” blue high-quality turquoise away from the mine and sell to collectors. The turquoise found at Morenci eventually became worth more than the copper.
Brief History of the Morenci Turquoise mine :
From 1956 to 1984 the turquoise rights were granted to William” Lucky “Brown, who also owned the Villa Grove Mine in Colorado. Production was mined in large quantities and sold through the family-owned station in New Mexico and Arizona. The Morenci copper mine is the largest in the United States and still produces more than 750,000,000 pounds of copper per year.
We hope you enjoyed our presentation. If you like this video please give it a thumbs up and like it.

The pyrite and quartz in the matrix make the Morenci turquoise unique. It's my favorite turquoise by far.

Wow, there’s something about Morenci turquoise that makes it unique, attractive and distinct from other turquoise. The pyrite especially. More silvery. But the blue too. It’s an elegant type of blue. The big Morenci ring is a great example. Thanks for the video Dillon.

My experience in turquoise industry...yeah, I'm not red or white enough in the blood for me to sell...so I collect and make art. Opal is the same. I consider it like gold or silver...know when to buy know when to sell and keep it private. Thanks for sharing beautiful stones.

Hello Dillon, I have a necklace of turquoise that I bought and I believe is from the Morenci mine but the pyrite looks almost like gold veins it’s beautiful but mine is the deep blue. Can you tell me more about it? 😊
