Nice work! Great idea stripping that camera down to save weight. I've been using my X5C with an 808#16 camera as well as a small camera I hacked together from a Hubsan X4C HD camera and it is a good stable camera flyer. I trimmed off the lip on the battery door as well as the nubs for mounting the stock camera and covered it with a layer of Velcro for mounting which has worked well for my cameras. I also have used a wedge to angle the camera for more level shots in forward flight; however as expected you see a lot more of the arms and props.
Nice video. Well the camera has nice quality I did notice a little jello when you would pick up speed. That big square hunk doesn't do well in the wend. I thought you took off the prop guards but then there they are in the video, you are right it would help a lot by not having them on. You did good but there are camera for less money and are more streamline for the for flying. Take a look at some of Quadcopter101 videos with the Syma X5c. Your camera man did a good job also, keep up the good work.
Here's how I modded the $50 Syma X5C 2.4G Quadcopter with a $99 Polaroid Cube action camera. I got the Syma because I wanted to step up my practice flights with a mini quadcopter that would be suitable for outdoor flights but also cheap enough to crash without breaking the bank.
+cleoszeftreine CZN yeah, as long as you don't get it wet, it holds together pretty well. I've removed it from the case and put it back in numerous times.
+RunPlayBack If you get it wet. Remove the battery asap. Get some 99% isopropyl alcohol from the drug store. Clean everything with alcohol before worrying about drying it out. You can pour alcohol all over the board it won't hurt it. Let it dry once you have wiped everything down with alcohol and sure you got rid of all the water. Once it's completely dry resolder any corroded connections. Don't do this with screens.
hi! that's a good idea. are you using the polaroid cube or the polaroid cube plus? i don't know if the weight is the same for both models, if you know please let me know!
How much did the camera weigh after the mod, and also how are the flight times of the X5C carrying the stripped camera? Looking at it though, you might as well also remove the landing skids to make it lighter as the camera will be hitting the ground first anyway
Hi! I have a Syma X5C and a polaroid cube+ but I don´t wnat to ruin the camera! can you mount it again after taking of the case? and is it really necessary to take the case of? thanks
+Tiago Malaquias Yeah you can mount it again...I've taken it apart and assembled it numerous times. It's necessary to take the case off so the Syma can fly it.
I replaced my stock Syma X5C camera with a SQ9 mini cam. I made a video on TH-cam about it... called ....( "Syma X5C Drone -- Camera Upgrade." ) It's really simple to mount and it's easily adjusted.
+NatesAbandonedExploration It's that the stock camera isn't that great for it's size and weight when compared to other cameras. It's better than nothing, but far better alternatives exist as seen here.
the cube camera really isnt much better, not worth it imo... If you want a real camera drone get a dji ir yuneec, if you want just a toy that can make some funny amateur videos the stock camera on the c5x should be finde
Nice work!

seems not worth it.

dude is that really okay if i just leave the case with magnet on?
+cleoszeftreine CZN yeah, as long as you don't get it wet, it holds together pretty well. I've removed it from the case and put it back in numerous times.
RunPlayBack well thx man. my syma is modded with 2300Kv motor so i think it should be fine

Can you put it all back together after
How did you remove the rainbow strip off the side of the cube?
Screws
Perfect! I just tried this method, and it is working like a charm :-) Thx!
+pechoiv great to hear! happy flying!

Perfect!!! I tried this metod just now and it is working like charm :-) Thx Rick!
Modified my drone so much that I can fit a battery 3x the size. I also gave it motors that are 2x as strong just to get 30min of flight with a camera.
+Marco Powell oh wow that's awesome, got any pics I could check out?
Isn't the button for turning the camera on/off on TOP of the camera?
Brenda Richey nope, you turn it on through the transmitter
Those 2 half cases of the Polaroid camera don't weigh a whole heck of alot. I'd just leave them on there for protection of the camera. 🤷🏻
Haha yeah...well we did this so many years ago. Probably not a good idea looking back at it now haha.
I did it!! it works great with the sema not bad. Thank

Really cool idea nice job on this idea😄😄😄😄😄😄😄😄😄😄😄
how much did the camera weigh after you took the case off?
+mrphotomanTIM a little more than half the weight...very light without the casing
+RunPlayBack cool, thanks

Looks like 720p 30fps. Blurry too. Hmmm...noticed you had your prop guards back on, why? Really it looked like what the original camera does.
You took off the props guard to save weight . But then you started flying with it on. Why?
+Invincible Don1 I was testing flight times but took it off after. Definitely need to remove the props.
no hack for the jello effect?
I think a way to remove the jello is to outfit the Polaroid Cube with some kind of ND filter
I don't know what problem is with camera. Works great for me.

I noticed if I attach my GO PRO the drone hates it. But its probably because it was a cheap $50 plastic drone.
looks like u have the camera upside down right before take off
yup it is upside down, you have to rotate the footage in post
bet, you joking?
all that work? I would have just hot glued a steel washer on to the Quadcopter and stuck the polaroid cube to it using the magnet.
+harry zimbler it's about shaving down the weight, the Syma needs all the help it can get to lift a payload
What about jello'ing?
$50 + $99 = $149 for bad video and flight characteristics vs $120 for x8g. Bravo!
Thats not a hack
Sweet !!!
cool
Jello ffect

+TS Lajk sweet!
