Two girls attempt ANCIENT GABLE WALL restoration.. ALONE! - DIY Stone cottage renovation.
This week we are back to living and working at our off grid Irish cottage. The gable wall is a huge feature in our final plans for this little homestead, and after all the structural issues we've faced so far, we are really hoping we can save it.
Using traditional methods only, we put our lime pointing skills to the test, as we try to repoint, and repair this wall using hot lime mix only.
Who said restoring a 200 year old abandoned stone house was going to be easy...

Aw, I hear you 😢 My partner passed away in 2020 & I know how you feel. I lost my parents years ago (mum in 1999 & dad in 2010) but nothing prepared me for the pain & numbness I felt. I'm so glad you follow these two beautiful humans.....mad, but beautiful 😉 & they keep you going. Life can be cruel at times & test us, but there's always someone, or something out there, that gives us the strength & shows us kindness, love & laughter to keep carrying on. Just take one day at a time.....I'm sending you a hug cos we all need a hug sometimes. Just look after yourself 💕💕

Truly a labor of love! Just think how nice it will be to sit down in that room when it's finished, look up at that wall, and remember how you filled in all the little cracks and made it look beautiful! True grit and determination 👍👍… well done both of you for going up on that scaffolding for a start.. especially as you are not too keen on heights😱… It was SO painstaking… and could understand why you had to plan the whole process really carefully.. Wow, that is a work of Art! I’ve done a lot of Venetian plastering by myself; in fact, my whole 2 stories of my house. I’ve learned how to patch cracks and bigger holes, finish w drywall tape. I absolutely love plastering; it’s very therapeutic . I know that I’d love what you are doing. It’s my dream to have a place w a gorgeous stone wall like that. Here in Pennsylvania we have a plethora of stone and beautiful stone houses/barns built in the 1700’s. Not as old as yours, but still gorgeous. You two have done a bang up job. It is beautiful!

I have to add as did another commenter that Lou’s creative filming at the beginning with the different aspects of nature birds, animals, water trees etc really adds to the intro in an intriguing and creative way. The pointing looks beautiful and will be a center piece drawing the eye into your living area. I love natural unique rustic authentic not plaster board and modern sticks and bricks…hence why I live in a 200 year old log home here in Canada…all the best!
Thanks Janice. A log home would be amazing! It’s a bit too wet for one here really as it doesn’t get cold enough in the winter so the dew point is always very high. But maybe one day we will have a little log house somewhere 🤞😃
