The grandpa wasn't actually Zenitsu's grandfather, Zenitsu just liked to call him that way, he is Zenitsu's teacher. Their relationship is like Urokodaki and Tanjiro. The black-haired character was another of Grandpa's trainees, and he doesn't like Zenitsu, thinking that his teacher is wasting his time training Zenitsu since he only can do one of the six forms
Japanese people sometimes address close elderly men and women as Jii-chan or Baa-chan. If they are just a little older than the character, he/she/they may call them nii-chan or nee-chan. (For example, Edogawa Conan calls Mouri Ran "Ran-ne-chan".)
I LOVED Adam’s take on the “I’m not steel though, am I?” - to put the volleyball spin on it, every drill, no matter how simple, is just another strike pounding away the impurities you have in your fundamentals
I think the moment when Zenitsu was on the house he still thinks that he haven’t saved anyone, because he says “It was a nice dream” meaning that it was a good goal to aim for but its a shame he’s gonna die before he achieves it. But then he thinks about how not only will his “Grandpa” let him have it, but Tanjiro as well; showing that Tanjiro is now a part of the list of people that has expectations for him, thus giving him the will to fight a little longer
I'm so glad you guys got to see how Zenitsu really is in his heart of hearts. He adamantly believes that he *is* a failure. The only person in his life to not treat him that way was his Sensei and Tanjiro. It's amazing how what we're told when we're young absolutely influences us when we're older.
This is still one of my favorite episodes. This was the final turning point for me with Zenitsu. I think a lot of people can relate to him, not necessarily because they behave like him, but because they know exactly how he feels. That feeling of inadequacy, the self hate, the loneliness, all despite trying your best. He really is a sweet kid who's just absolutely terrified. And to be fair, I think I would react to the demon he saw the same way 😂 that guy was terrifying! And I love that grandpa validated him and said it was okay to cry and to run, just don't give up even if you have to do those things. I think he saw Zenitsu in a way other people didn't. He could see those efforts and recognized them, and I think that's what Zenitsu wants, is for people to really see him. Demon Slayer is pretty good about giving us answers for stuff thankfully lol sometimes they just make us wait a bit first 😂
You guys are asking all the right questions. Most of your questions will be answered at the end of the arc. Unfortunately, many other questions are bound to come up...
In a recent Trash Taste podcast, Zenitsu's English voice actor Aleks Le gave a pretty good defense of Zenitsu. To paraphrase: He has a sense of humanity in him that you don't see in the other characters, where he's imperfect which is very human. He cares about being recognized, having friends, and how others feel about him. But when push comes to shove he will go there and give his best despite not wanting to. That said, the constant whining is still annoying to listen to, lmao
I love seeing people that aren't lifelong anime fans enjoy the themes anime has in its stories. Its why I think its crazy when people say they don't like anime, theres so many to choose from and they often have themes that you can relate to on a human level
Zenitsu is my favorite character. I relate so much when he talks about hating himself the most and wanting to be strong but can’t. Despite that he never gives up. It’s also so heartwarming seeing people accept him for who he is
In a lot of Asian cultures, family titles such as grandpa, uncle, brother/sister, are used for people of authority or stature. It's not limited to actual relatives. I can't even count the number of "older brothers" I have.
I absolutely LIVE for the moment when people come around to Zenitsu. Even if you can't relate on a fundamental level, the context that you get with his backstory is so vital to his character. Seeing you guys dig into that and thinking about his motivations is EXACTLY what I hope for my friends when they watch Demon Slayer, too! EDIT: Also glad that Sarah and I can agree that Spider Mom was a babe
He didn’t say he’s power and he could help people. He said he dreamt that he was powerful and that he could help people. Which is sad because still not the way he sees himself, it’s the way he wishes to be
40:20 alright everybody, its time for 'Morning Mantras with Sarah!' make sure to say these to yourself in the miror every morning to start your day off with positivity 😊
Zenitsu always reminds me of one of my students when I was teaching at high school; she always fell asleep when she was about to be asked something in class, even though she was awake a mere second before. It’s a psychological defense mechanism. She always wanted to be better, but she had very strong inferiority complex, and rather than being embarrassed in class when she didn’t know the answer, she just shut down. After nearly 30 years, I still remember the clench in my heart when I saw her head bowed down and seemingly asleep…. By the way, that obnoxious senior student who threw the peach at Zenitsu is voiced by the same VA for Asahi from Haikyuu!!
It is easy to get annoyed by Zenitsu's antics considering he is the only coward amongst ...this group..in which even kids seems so much braver than him. But i personally feel, it is them that are abnormal. they have seen and gone through things that scarred them, things the like of which either give you lifetime ptsd or kill your ability to feel fear anymore. Zenitsu unfortunately had not faced any such thing until he became a demon slayer. He is very much a normal human who is scared of demons like you and me would. But he is also grateful for all the love, support, affection and discipline that his "teacher" showed him. He became a demon slayer to respect his "gramps" efforts but is afraid of demons..hence his constantly scared personality arises. He will never run away from this job of demon slayer, he will not quit, specially if someone is in danger, he would complain all the time, but he wont leave..that's his own brand of bravery. He wants to run away, but his kindness and the pride of being his gramps student, just wont let him quit..as such he has accepted that since he cant leave, and since he isn't strong enough to survive(because most of the things he do is when he falls asleep lol) he wont be able to have a normal life, get a girlfriend or a wife, etc etc. That is where his "desperation" comes from. Ofcourse its not his most admirable trait but it is what it is haha.
He doesn't only know 1 of the 6 forms rather he can only perfrom 1 of them... his body cant handle the other 5 forms. Thunder breathing is heavily reliant on muscles and he doesnt have the thickkness in his legs and thighs for the other forms
adding to the title and the message of honing a skill until you can't get any better, have you noticed that Zenitsu used the first form SIXFOLD? to have different degrees of power of one breathing move is something special that only zenitsu will think to accomplish
sixfold refers the amount of times he uses it consecutively, not the degree of power. the first form is basically one single strike and step and doing it several times allows him to move around more. if you pause at the final moment of him slicing the head, you can also count the six steps.
I really hope they watch the whole upcoming fight at once, imo the upcoming fight is one of the most beautiful animations of demon slayer and imo the only way to fully appreciate it is to watch it all at one time.
In Japan, people often address people close to them as ``Grandpa'' even if they are not actually their grandfather. Even if you are not related by blood, you may refer to someone as ``oniichan'' or ``oneechan'', such as an older childhood friend or a friend's olderbrother or oldersister. For Zenitsu, he is not his grandfather but his master, but for Zenitsu, who has no family, he probably calls him ``Gramps'' out of love and intimacy. By the way, have you seen the parts after the ending song? This is the part of "Taisho cosocoso uwasabanashi" It's not a spoiler, it's just some fun information about the characters, so if you haven't seen it yet, I'd be happy if you could watch it and give your reactions😊
What a great lesson: Never fuck with a spider. 1. You might get kids who look like the father or older brother 2. If they're too strong, you might die 3. especially if you're in Australia
I love this episode and yes, Zenitsu is my favorite character. I appreciate that there was this character, a hero who isn't in the usual hero "mould". He is unsure, not confident, not a genius, and just over all, not the best specimen you would want if you can train a demon slayer. Still though, Gramps took a chance on him, and he took a chance on himself as well, that maybe, just maybe, he can be hero himself. I like this POV since it shows us that all of us can do just that, be a hero, in our own way. Just because you don't have the body type for it, the lineage for it, the money for it does not mean you can't be it. I always cry when I watch this epidose. The multiple times he says "Thunder Breathing, First Form, Thunderclap and Flash!" turns on the waterworks! 😅
Zenitsu will always be my fav.. because he is relatable and also someone who just wanted to be recognized and have friends.. and the reason why everytime he sleeps he became powerful cause he mentioned at 34:17 in his dreams he is strong.. not to spoil or anything but just keep having higher expectation of him in the future episodes haha

I'm very intrigued by Sarah's childhood being similar to Zenitsu's! Would love to hear more at some point if it's not too personal. Interesting takes on the do one thing perfectly thing. For me it always makes me think of Bruce Lee's quote: "I fear not the man who has practices 10,000 kicks once, but I fear the man who has practiced one kick 10,000 times" but I really loved hearing both of your takes on it! Zenitsu is my favourite character in the series so I'm glad to see you gradually warm up to him. Get ready for the next few episodes though! You're in for a ride 😅
Zenitsu “grampa is not really Zenitsu ancestor, he saved Zenitsu from debt because he saw potential in him, he is his master. Since Zenitsu has so much gratitude for him, he calls him grandpa as an endearing way to refer to him.
Sarah, I think this is the MLK quote you were thinking of? I have it here, in my book "The Measure of a Man", in his sermon "Dimensions of a Complete Life." "... if it falls your lot to be a street-sweeper, sweep streets as Raphael painted pictures, sweep streets as Michelangelo carved marble, sweep streets as Beethoven composed music, sweep streets as Shakespeare wrote poetry. Sweep streets so well that all the hosts of heaven and earth will have to pause and say, 'Here lived a great street-sweeper who swept his job well.'"
Zenitsu being able to do Sixfold strength of that one form is 💯💯 Did anyone else was able to multiply the strenth of their forms? I finished the manga waaaay back, so I can't recall if there's any.
I think u both should react to jujutsu kaisen. Its a great series and well written story if u ask me. The early is better cuz the season 2 already done and theres a movie too the end of season 1.
I am sorry, Sarah, but Adam's pronounciation of Zenitsu (1:02) is actually the correct one (as the Japanese would pronounce it). No matter, love to you both!
As an autistic person I struggle with eye contact when talking with people; meanwhile this dude communicates by connecting his entire soul to you through his eyeballs. The way I could literally be Medusa yet I'd still be the one that's paralyzed sitting next to this guy as he zooms in on one specific pore on the side of my face. Imagine trying to react to a show but every time you think about talking this guy bores two eyeball-sized holes through your skull like he's about to scream at you to show him your war face. Man I couldn't do it.
Video Start: Love Adam excitement for this title and episode Adam’s pronunciation isn’t that bad though 100% a beautiful and heartbreaking death Good point with the hunters Adam, though they were also pretty low rank, maybe from the final selections a year or two before We love assumptions/predictions Tsukki reference Episode Start: We will see her, never fear Adam, she alway appears Innouske is FUCKED UP but too proud to admit it Good catch on the person comment Sarah really shows a lot about Tanjiro’s character Your wonder will be answered (as you know by now since I am way late) Angry Zenitsu is awesomely funny Baby head spider Zenitsu’s reaction to that is 100% realistic and reasonable, normally him freaking out is a bit absurd, here it is not Zenitsu wanting to be asleep is hilarious, so is his rant as he runs away And then he is confronted by horrid death and creepy bodies Even Zenitsu has a nose, lucky big smell Tanjiro wasn’t there Time for the creepiest of the spider people, spider boy I love the guess about the mom trying to make kids All the speculation about why they look the same is super interesting and since I am late I can’t want to see your thoughts on the realities of it They turn them into spiders, see Zenitsu is right to fear demons Love Zenitsu’s terrified sounds as spider boy tells him what will happen to him Yes Sarah, that is exactly what happens Zenitsu hates spiders almost as much as Sarah Love the back and forth they have LOVE ZENITSU’S TRAINER Not actually his grandpa Zenitsu’s backstory great, such an interesting heart AND THEN LIGHTNING Because that makes sense it changing his hair Hearing Zenitsu’s inner thoughts in contrast to his demeanor is always awesome and super powerful NOT HIS REAL GRANDPA Love the thoughts on Zenitsu’s self doubt and loathing, it makes him so much more of a deep and interesting character Love Adam’s insights about Sarah’s life and her interactions ONE MINUTE And now his hair is coming out THE FACIAL EXPRESSIONS ARE SO GOOD And he passes out Literally spineless with that animation And we get sleep breathing That is some gnarly poison One trick pony is Zenitsu Love the advice his trainer hives, but also how he is constantly hitting him in the head Zenitsu’s trainer I think might be better at training than Urkarodaki, just because he seems to be able to adapt to and work with more of a variety of trainees (from what we have seen) MLK Jr. Quote, ok Sarah Is that him? I genuinely don’t know I mean what Adam said matches with what Sarah said I thought, finding Excellence in what you are doing is what he said. Being the best garbage man you can be is seeking personal excellence in garbage man. I mean muscles rip and repair stronger so I can see that as being similar to making swords I agree that scene has a bunch of awesome moments and saying and powerful moments Language localization for that is a great question Ok Sarah, I see you doing Fester dirty like that He is not his actual gramps so it makes sense the other guy could be upset by that His perspective of him being a waste would be more valid if more pupils were available, but with so few recruits I can’t see it as a waste Most trainers we have met have been former Hashira’s THEY AREN’T ACTUALLY FAMILY (you probs know this by now though They walk away because you scare or annoy them away He was bought by the trainer from his debt and then forced to train I agree having a lack of setting expectations and how it can influence development is super interesting His hair did not look like Giyu Yeah, all trainers train multiple people So annoyed by him being thought to be actual gramps Ignoring the grandpa talk but the other trainee’s perspective I find super interesting about if one isn’t going to be a a good fighter and so is a waste of time Whip tongue Zenitsu Sleeps!!! Lightning boy is fast Super cool animation The fight choreo for Zenitsu killing spider boy is super interesting and cool, I really love how it looks It didn’t save him “I dreamed I was powerful” is such a powerful line Zenitsu’s self doubt and loathing is so powerful and interesting I love how everything in this show always comes back to breathing, its core to the powers and key to life Zenitsu’s internal monologue after he kills spider boy can certainly be tear inducing Tanjiro yelling at him is a great moment That sound was Zenitsu Love the talk between Innouske and Tanjiro “I am not injured at all” The daughter appears Calling Innouske Daddy I see, ok Big spider man is daddy I guess Big Punches Great ending shot No arm slash allowed this time Tanjiro Episode End: Love Adam’s brain going to why spiders She got plans “Suck poison sputum” Love the confusion about the sword not cutting, remember that demons have talked about getting harder/tougher with age/power. Video End:
I knew you will like this chapter and will understand better Zenitsu. He is a great character, not the best but he is strong and brave even if he does not think is true. It is so sad that he have a dream of saving people and that happen when he is asleep.
Something cool, and not necessarily a spoiler about Gramps! He was also known as the Roaring Thunder, or the Roaring Pillar (Hashira) due to his strength and speed. Something that we need to clarify is that all preparators know different styles of SwordStyle. Per se Urokodaki trained Giyuu and Tanjiro under the Water style, Zenitsu was trained under the Thunder style, you will get to see more styles a long the way.
24:03 honestly I’m not really for the idea of honing whatever you do to the extreme, personally subscribe to the notion that “a jack of all train is master of none, but quite often better than a master of one” focusing all my energy onto one thing seems like I’m setting myself up for failure, it’s better to have more things to do and love because then you’ll have more contingencies of self worth and a more stable mentality when facing hardships. I liked the interaction between zenitsu and his master because it seems true to life but don’t really agree with the master’s analogy because as zenitsu says he’s not made of steal but living flesh.
You should really watch attack on titan. It is arguably the greatest fictional show of all time; yes, even if you put it against game of thrones and the like, when you look at the ratings and the hype it got, it is literally arguable. You should really watch it, it is a breathe of fresh air and so different from shows like haikyu and demon slayer. btw, im gonna keep on repetitively commenting this till you actually start watching attack on titan. Look online about its ratings and reviews, you'll understand me.
you both are off w the zenitsu pronunciation, but adam is closer. his second syllable is correct and your first syllable is correct. put those together and you got it. zeh - knee - tsu with no stress or emphasis on any of the syllables.
Nope. It's Zen'itsu (善逸). 善 = Zen (ぜん). 逸 = Itsu (いつ). "Zeh - n - i - tsu" if you want to slowly enunciate it. The ん (n) and い (i) are from different different kanji. There is no に ("knee"). Sarah is closer.
Zenitsu, tanjiro and inouske has 0 bloodline boost.... They are the only one in family to be this talented in breathing style.....even tanjiro's family house has more value than his bloodline...🤫
The grandpa wasn't actually Zenitsu's grandfather, Zenitsu just liked to call him that way, he is Zenitsu's teacher. Their relationship is like Urokodaki and Tanjiro. Another fun anecdote is that the other student, is voiced by Asahi’s VA.

Zenitsu “grampa is not really Zenitsu ancestor, he saved Zenitsu from debt because he saw potential in him, he is his master. Since Zenitsu has so much gratitude for him, he calls him grandpa as an endearing way to refer to him.
Be ready to cry after every backstory....specially mr. basketball's backstory
Sarah, I think this is the MLK quote you were thinking of? I have it here, in my book "The Measure of a Man", in his sermon "Dimensions of a Complete Life."
"... if it falls your lot to be a street-sweeper, sweep streets as Raphael painted pictures, sweep streets as Michelangelo carved marble, sweep streets as Beethoven composed music, sweep streets as Shakespeare wrote poetry. Sweep streets so well that all the hosts of heaven and earth will have to pause and say, 'Here lived a great street-sweeper who swept his job well.'"
The biochemist in Sarah is spewing in this onee ❤
Ended up learning a ton about Sarah this episode 😂
Its here! Its here! 🤩😍
Zenitsu being able to do Sixfold strength of that one form is 💯💯
Did anyone else was able to multiply the strenth of their forms? I finished the manga waaaay back, so I can't recall if there's any.
Thanks you for your reaction ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Saiba que o Brasil também está acompanhando seu canal 🇧🇷💚
I think u both should react to jujutsu kaisen. Its a great series and well written story if u ask me. The early is better cuz the season 2 already done and theres a movie too the end of season 1.
If Sarah really like backstory she should've watched One Piece or at least wait the remake in 2025 and watch that new version.
I am watching it on my own! Too many episodes to react to
@@SarahPavanAnime WAIT WHAT ARC ARE YOU ON?
@@SarahPavanAnime Knowing that you're watching One Piece makes me very, very, very happy
@@SarahPavanAnime who are your favourite One Piece characters? I am so glad that you are watching One Piece 😊
This is my favourite episode of the first season. Zenitsu's self doubt and self hatred is really hard to watch 😢.
I can't wait for their Ep19 reaction!
Love this ep! ❤
I'm sorry Sarah but Adam was correct with how to pronounce Zenitsu 😂😂
iam so excited for ep19 and 21 reaction :)
Go to 40:20 for Sarah playing madlibs.
Video Start:
Love Adam excitement for this title and episode
Adam’s pronunciation isn’t that bad though
100% a beautiful and heartbreaking death
Good point with the hunters Adam, though they were also pretty low rank, maybe from the final selections a year or two before
We love assumptions/predictions
Tsukki reference
Episode Start:
We will see her, never fear Adam, she alway appears
Innouske is FUCKED UP but too proud to admit it
Good catch on the person comment Sarah really shows a lot about Tanjiro’s character
Your wonder will be answered (as you know by now since I am way late)
Angry Zenitsu is awesomely funny
Baby head spider
Zenitsu’s reaction to that is 100% realistic and reasonable, normally him freaking out is a bit absurd, here it is not
Zenitsu wanting to be asleep is hilarious, so is his rant as he runs away
And then he is confronted by horrid death and creepy bodies
Even Zenitsu has a nose, lucky big smell Tanjiro wasn’t there
Time for the creepiest of the spider people, spider boy
I love the guess about the mom trying to make kids
All the speculation about why they look the same is super interesting and since I am late I can’t want to see your thoughts on the realities of it
They turn them into spiders, see Zenitsu is right to fear demons
Love Zenitsu’s terrified sounds as spider boy tells him what will happen to him
Yes Sarah, that is exactly what happens
Zenitsu hates spiders almost as much as Sarah
Love the back and forth they have
LOVE ZENITSU’S TRAINER
Not actually his grandpa
Zenitsu’s backstory great, such an interesting heart
AND THEN LIGHTNING
Because that makes sense it changing his hair
Hearing Zenitsu’s inner thoughts in contrast to his demeanor is always awesome and super powerful
NOT HIS REAL GRANDPA
Love the thoughts on Zenitsu’s self doubt and loathing, it makes him so much more of a deep and interesting character
Love Adam’s insights about Sarah’s life and her interactions
ONE MINUTE
And now his hair is coming out
THE FACIAL EXPRESSIONS ARE SO GOOD
And he passes out
Literally spineless with that animation
And we get sleep breathing
That is some gnarly poison
One trick pony is Zenitsu
Love the advice his trainer hives, but also how he is constantly hitting him in the head
Zenitsu’s trainer I think might be better at training than Urkarodaki, just because he seems to be able to adapt to and work with more of a variety of trainees (from what we have seen)
MLK Jr. Quote, ok Sarah
Is that him? I genuinely don’t know
I mean what Adam said matches with what Sarah said I thought, finding Excellence in what you are doing is what he said. Being the best garbage man you can be is seeking personal excellence in garbage man.
I mean muscles rip and repair stronger so I can see that as being similar to making swords
I agree that scene has a bunch of awesome moments and saying and powerful moments
Language localization for that is a great question
Ok Sarah, I see you doing Fester dirty like that
He is not his actual gramps so it makes sense the other guy could be upset by that
His perspective of him being a waste would be more valid if more pupils were available, but with so few recruits I can’t see it as a waste
Most trainers we have met have been former Hashira’s
THEY AREN’T ACTUALLY FAMILY (you probs know this by now though
They walk away because you scare or annoy them away
He was bought by the trainer from his debt and then forced to train
I agree having a lack of setting expectations and how it can influence development is super interesting
His hair did not look like Giyu
Yeah, all trainers train multiple people
So annoyed by him being thought to be actual gramps
Ignoring the grandpa talk but the other trainee’s perspective I find super interesting about if one isn’t going to be a a good fighter and so is a waste of time
Whip tongue
Zenitsu Sleeps!!!
Lightning boy is fast
Super cool animation
The fight choreo for Zenitsu killing spider boy is super interesting and cool, I really love how it looks
It didn’t save him
“I dreamed I was powerful” is such a powerful line
Zenitsu’s self doubt and loathing is so powerful and interesting
I love how everything in this show always comes back to breathing, its core to the powers and key to life
Zenitsu’s internal monologue after he kills spider boy can certainly be tear inducing
Tanjiro yelling at him is a great moment
That sound was Zenitsu
Love the talk between Innouske and Tanjiro
“I am not injured at all”
The daughter appears
Calling Innouske Daddy I see, ok
Big spider man is daddy I guess
Big Punches
Great ending shot
No arm slash allowed this time Tanjiro
Episode End:
Love Adam’s brain going to why spiders
She got plans
“Suck poison sputum”
Love the confusion about the sword not cutting, remember that demons have talked about getting harder/tougher with age/power.
Video End:
You might be surprised to know the voice actors of Brother and Son.
Seing Zenitsu's attack without the music was weird 😂 i need to watch the original again
Zenitsu is easily my favorite.
Zenitsu is my Generalized Anxiety Disorder. 😅😮😢
Great episode
Adam was correct about the pronunciation of Zenitsus name
Finally good sound😍😍😍
My favorite character baby.
pls upload 2 videos a week it is too much wait for 1 episode a week please
Perfect for dinner after work :D
literally everyone goes right for toy story.
The moment you fall in love with zenitsu.
*can y’all do 2 episodes in one video*
told yall day one, zenitsu will grow on you.
PLEASE REACT TO ATTACK ON TITAN!
❤
you both are off w the zenitsu pronunciation, but adam is closer. his second syllable is correct and your first syllable is correct. put those together and you got it. zeh - knee - tsu with no stress or emphasis on any of the syllables.
@@lsmedal i stand corrected. i'd still say adam is closer as he uses the long 'e' vowel sound.
Please react to "Attack On Titan"
Is she your mom?
Zenitsu, tanjiro and inouske has 0 bloodline boost.... They are the only one in family to be this talented in breathing style.....even tanjiro's family house has more value than his bloodline...🤫
the next couple of episodes are gonna be hype as fuck
