Yes, I agree. I don’t need constant recording indoors. Just purchased 3 pack stick up cam and came to TH-cam to find out how to set for recording only when needed. Since it’s not an option I will be returning. Thanks for excellent review 🙏🏾
Ring has done a lot to advance the home security market, but its refusal to implement a much-requested feature for its indoor cameras is inexcusable. Ring has been making security cameras since 2017, and indoor cameras since 2018, and yet still hasn't added a scheduling or alarm integration feature to its cameras, despite being criticized again and again for it by consumers. It does not reflect well on the company.
Been trying for 2 days to get set-up my Ring. 2 things I'll share on the short comings. 1) Their App and yours are totally different. Mine never asked for a wifi Pass code yet my friend was asked for one. Is it possible I have a older version. So disappointed and feel I've been had. Thank You so much for this review as I will not waste my time trying to set it up. Now I'll try and return it to Best Buy (ordered on line. Just have my Bank Account records that show the purchase transaction. Thank You again.
The app is updated all the time. So the process for setup changes, unfortunately. Generally Ring makes it easier with each update, not harder, so I'm sorry to hear it didn't work out for you.
Just got one of these and set it up. Found your channel and based on your recommendation I’ll be returning this today. This was an excellent video, thanks. This was my first ever security camera.
Sorry it ended up disappointing you. Ring's security ecosystem and software suite is actually among the very best for outdoor security, I highly recommend Ring for any outdoor installation. But I will not recommend Ring for indoor use until it implements required privacy features.
I bought these for the sheer fact that I have a dog that recently sprained her leg and a kid that gets off the bus 5-10 minutes before I get home. I need to make sure they’re either getting around or getting inside safely/successfully. You should use cord organizers or double sided tape whenever using corded security cameras; there are discreet options (they really should include these in the box though). Some of the setup steps didn’t pop-up on mine when I installed them last week, so I think they’ve improved SOME things. I agree about the the camera timing though. That’s one thing they haven’t improved. 🙄
I thought the same thing about it recording while I’m in the house. I need up plugging it into a smart plug which DOES have a schedule and I manage it that way. I think it’s better than ring programming in a schedule - doing it my way I know without hesitation that it’s off.
Ha, great idea! But it does beg the question of why Amazon/Ring is forcing everyone to jump through these hoops to use their security cameras indoors. You'd think it would be an easy software fix for a company with Amazon's backing. It's almost as if Amazon/Ring doesn't WANT to offer any privacy indoors.
Pretty good review my friend! I'm just ordering some of these products. It's good to know that not everything is GREAT.. I'm not sure why I cannot use these under the awning of my porch though.. seems pretty protected from the elements .. Hmmm
Hey, I know you! Thanks for watching! It was interesting testing the Indoor Cam, which is clearly designed to target the Wyze Cam that changed the security camera market forever by coming in at $25 (link: amzn.to/2KI61zz). I'm still not sure how they continue to sell those cameras for so little! $60 is probably close enough from a big name like Ring, but I really think Ring/Amazon has to address the elephant in the room: constant recording of video on its indoor models. This is especially urgent in light of the fact that it shares the video feeds with police departments nationwide. This was marginally reasonable with outdoor cams, it's completely absurd with indoor cams.
@@TheTechBuyersGuru Ring gives all recorded video to the police? Isn't that a bit of an exaggeration? The owner has ro give permission for the video to be shared with LE. If someone broke into my home I would want to share the video with the police.
I agree with everything you said. I'm annoyed that I cannot stop the Ring Indoor Cam from recording and notifying via cellphone that it has detected motion. I even scheduled to NOT monitor when in the home mode. Very frustrating that Ring hasn't done something about this. Does the TP-Link Kasa Cam work with the Ring Security System?
The new update to the Ring app does allow you to specify Home and Away modes, so that the camera no longer records if you place it in Home mode. If you have the Ring Alarm, that should work for you at this point. the TP-Link Kasa Cam does not work with the Ring Alarm.
You could use command velcro tape to keep in position and if it’s facing the door I’d rather have it recording in case of a robbery 🤷🏻♂️ though these are my own opinions.
Thanks for the great review. Since I already have the Ring Doorbell and pay for those recordings, do you know if this device will be included in that package or if it's an additional subscription cost? Cheers.
The $3/mo plan only includes one camera. The next step up is $10/mo or $100/yr, which gives you recording on unlimited cameras plus alarm monitoring (that's what I use, fantastic deal if you use the full Ring ecosystem). Not sure if you can get two $3 plans if you only have two cameras.
I see a lot of comments of people returning the camera because of the always recording... BUT that's the reason I want it.. just saw on the news this morning that a man was robbed in his own home and the ring camera captured the whole thing... Isn't that the point?? They caught the thief's face un full HD🤣
I want my camera recording even when I’m home because if I am upstairs laying in bed, I would like to be notified of somebody walking around in my living room when no one is supposed to be at my house but me. Also, if I am walking in front of my own camera, completely dark, naked, and somehow, that video gets leaked onto the Internet! I would be ecstatic because the multibillion dollar company known as Ring ®️ would have my name on it.
Hi thanks for your review. The software update does allow you to stop recording motion. So maybe at the time you could not but now you can? Pls confirm? If I select that option it stops recording and doesn’t add recording to my event history for that time it’s off.
I just bought this indoor it’s not bad , but the red motion light blinks when someone walks by camera so it’s doing it’s job but I called ring to see if there’s a way to turn off red and green light so if someone does get into my pad they won’t see lights blinking at them. Right said to put a small piece of black tape over the blinking lights . What’s your thoughts? Thank you
Well, black duct tape or electrical tape would probably work. It has to be black or the light will shine through. With that said, I always find it helpful to see that light so I know that my Ring Cam is functioning, like you mentioned. It's a trade-off, of course, but if a "bad guy" gets into your place, you might want them to quickly see that light shining at them so they run the other way!
Some of my family want me to setup this device for my nearly blind aunt so I can monitor her place . I live miles away from her , will I be able to monitor her place from a distance with this device?
Yes you can. But you will need to go on site to set it up and connect to her WiFi. From then on, you can use your own smartphone to view live video (or recorded video if you pay the subscription fee) from anywhere. Here's the link to the Indoor Cam: amzn.to/3vzwO92 #ad
If I want to keep it in my kitchen window so I can see who is infront of my house is it okay the view through the window? And does it turn so I can see wider angle I have two car spaces and would like too see the second one also, the first car space is right infront my kitchen window does it know the difference between people and animals?
Yes, it can be used to look through a window. There is a setting for that in the software. It is not a pan-tilt camera, you just get the 140-degree field of view. There is a setting to detect motion of humans only, "people only mode."
Yes you can, there's actually a setting for that in the app, which I assume changes the focusing system of the camera so it doesn't focus on the glass.
I live in an apartment and use the indoor camera facing outside through a window in the living room to monitor the front area of the door since the peephole camera cannot see the doormat and lower areas of the door (design flaw). However, the peephole in the camera has a wider viewing angle than the camera itself allowing you to see the doormat. If monitoring outdoors through a window, please disable audio recording as your targeted video surveillance is outdoors and not indoors. No point of recording the indoor audio when monitoring outdoor activity.
So if I'm away from home and I don't have access to any nearby wi-fi and my mobile fon date is turned off, does that mean I won't get a warning message on my fon if the camera is set off? Basically, this will only work if my mobile data is on when I'm away from home.
My outlet is about 4 or 5 feet from the edge of the porch so it would be close plus we have a lot of humidity in Texas. I will probably go with the outdoor one to be safe. Thanks for the reply.
One of the things I like about the Stick Up Cam is that you can get it with a solar panel: amzn.to/36CGtvS. Might consider that versus going with plug in version. Note battery/solar models do not include power adapter.

You just have to give it a firm tug if you've pressed it all the way in. It's simply a friction fit with the housing of the camera, there is no lock. I tried it with my sample just now.
@@TheTechBuyersGuru Thanks for the reply, I pulled fairly hard and it wouldn't budge and I was afraid of damaging the wires. I think I'll leave it alone; as it is for now./
Great question. I'm actually in the process of testing the $100 Stick Up Cam Battery (amzn.to/2QdE1Y6), so I can tell you the difference. The $60 Ring Indoor Cam (amzn.to/32CVlIv) is smaller, is not weatherproof (so it can only be used inside), and does not include a battery. The Stick Up Cam Battery is weatherproof and has a removable Lithium-Ion battery. It can also be purchased with a solar panel (amzn.to/32BKui1). There is also a $100 Stick Up Cam Wired (amzn.to/2CyLclM) that is a waste of money in my opinion. Instead of including a battery, it just includes a weatherproof power adapter. I would not buy this model - it should be priced closer to $80. All three have similar video and audio quality.
I am looking for a cam to monitor my livingroom and birds while away. Would this be recommended for that and also... Is there a subscription fee for the app other than for recordings? Thanks!...p.s ah kasa cam. :)k
Yeah, you got it. I like the Kasa Cam for free recording: amzn.to/2KaeYnW But the problem is that TP-Link is no longer being upfront about whether that 2 days of recording is included, so I can't promise it. With the Ring Indoor Cam, you definitely need to pay $3/mo if you want any recording, otherwise all you have is live views. If that's fine for your needs, since I assume the birds aren't flying around the room, go with the Ring camera, as the Ring ecosystem is much more complete if you ever want to add other cameras. Here's the link: amzn.to/3nnvuPI
@@TheTechBuyersGuru tbh that's the thing I leave them out in a room and atm I am leaving my house a couple days at a time. So would like to be able to monitor what's going on from my friends home. I am my friend's bubble for this covid situation so I am going away for a couple of days at a time and I don't like to have caged up birds for days. They aren't used to it as I usually let them fly around all the time when I am usually at home. Thanks for your advice but would you still recommend the ring one given that they are out all the time? Thanks!
If you need to see where they have been, you will need the recording contract. That's $3/mo, and you can cancel it if you don't need it once this situation is over. So yes, I think it will work for you. One thing is that recording is triggered by motion, it is not 24/7, and the birds may be too small to trigger it. Or they may constantly trigger it over and over. So you will need to experiment with it. But it is worth a try.
Can't set it up in my ring app, it says I'm not putting my internet password in correct, I am because I have another two, but the indoor cam I can't get to connect? Any ideas as what to do, turned my off and on,do you think I have to Maney cameras?
As I recall, it pulls the internet password off of your phone, you just have to have the phone connected to the right WiFi network. I don't think you need to manually enter it if your phone is connected to WiFi.
Be aware Best Buy geeks politely installed our ring system … However: 1. Exterior cameras batteries were NOT charged prior to installing…before ending if day, batteries required disengagement from exterior installation and 8 hours of charging in order to work… 2. I was told no problem to unplug indoor camera from wall outlet when I did not choose video monitors activity … return plug to outlet to replace to active mode… NOPE!! Has to get reprogrammed to app to work again… Turn off from app Do not just unplug from wall outlet it ceased all function
I've learned more here in 10 minutes then what I learned with a Best Buy rep today that does not know shit about it. If you don't have a cell with the internet these days you can't do anything. I don't have one. Try hooking one of these up with out the cell. How do you scan the code with a computer??? And Best Buy wants a 100 bucks to come to your home and install this. Not a chance. Time to buy a doberman.
You can easily view your camera from your smartphone. Your phone will just use your cellular plan, which probably has a cap on the monthly downloads. So you wouldn't want to leave it streaming the video feed for hours on end, but otherwise, it's very simple to use.
Interestingly, the sound quality is something they worked on during the beta stage, and it's something I informed them about. Audio quality is actually harder to do right than video when working with a small device.
Recording is dependent on motion sensing. Turn off motion sensing when in Home mode and on when in Away mode and problem solved. The indoor cam video looks washed up because it has better HDR quality which is better for security cams rather than being too saturated with colors.
Why do you care if the camera is constantly recording since it's plugged in? I can see if it's the battery operated version and you want to conserve the battery. Just turn it off if you don't want it to record.
Yes, it would, very cheap, dependable solution. Would work great as a baby monitor, where you're probably not quite as concerned about privacy (I leave my baby monitor on all the time).
Constant indoor recording is nice in case anything happens in the house while the system isn't active. Yeah it can be annoying for the 99.9% of the time you don't need that. But in the event of domestic abuse or something like that, having the video to cut through that whole he said/she said thing is nice to have.
@@JasonSpitzMI50 Yeah as if telling a wife beater to stop will make them go "Oh man you are right I will totally do that." Give me a break dude. @@madame4883 They have three cameras. Before leaving they were showing me the house he said two of the cameras don't have audio so just turn them against the wall. Then he said this one has motion and audio so you can hide or turn it off. I didn't feel comfortable with them around, I like to party a little bit and I definitely talk to myself!
bought it then found it dosent work with my version of Android , what a joke. Their instructions keep mentioning the App why can you not just set it up for Internet use and wifi without a phone, again it's all about Ring and Amazon making money off phone Apps and recording features rather than just working with your computer and internet out of the box. Good review. Thanks
Yeah, I agree that the sirens built into the cameras are quite weak, and there actually isn't a siren built into the Indoor Cam, and Ring isn't even marketing the weak siren built into the latest Stick Up Cam. I also have the Ring Alarm, and that has a slightly louder siren, but still not audible from outside a house, but it's what Ring is likely going to recommend going forward if you want a siren.
No, you cannot. What you can do is stop notifications. It always records, unless you simply turn it off, which isn't that convenient, since you then have to turn it on manually every time you want it to actually monitor your home. A schedule would be a whole lot better.

Yeah, you got it. I like the Kasa Cam for free recording: amzn.to/2KaeYnW
But the problem is that TP-Link is no longer being upfront about whether that 2 days of recording is included, so I can't promise it.
True
Can't set it up in my ring app, it says I'm not putting my internet password in correct, I am because I have another two, but the indoor cam I can't get to connect? Any ideas as what to do, turned my off and on,do you think I have to Maney cameras?
As I recall, it pulls the internet password off of your phone, you just have to have the phone connected to the right WiFi network. I don't think you need to manually enter it if your phone is connected to WiFi.
Be aware
Best Buy geeks politely installed our ring system …
However:
1. Exterior cameras batteries were NOT charged prior to installing…before ending if day, batteries required disengagement from exterior installation and 8 hours of charging in order to work…
2. I was told no problem to unplug indoor camera from wall outlet when I did not choose video monitors activity … return plug to outlet to replace to active mode… NOPE!!
Has to get reprogrammed to app to work again…
Turn off from app
Do not just unplug from wall outlet it ceased all function
just put a piece of duct tape rolled under the camera base and it'll stick great
Do you need wifi to connect?
Yes.
Does this camera rotate or does it stay in one spot ?
It uses a wide angle for that purpose. Rotating pan/tilt cameras are very outdated.
I am new at this. What happens when you are not home connected to your wifi?
You can easily view your camera from your smartphone. Your phone will just use your cellular plan, which probably has a cap on the monthly downloads. So you wouldn't want to leave it streaming the video feed for hours on end, but otherwise, it's very simple to use.
I agree with you. Also, the sound in this camera is terrible, sounds muffled and choppy and echos a lot.
Interestingly, the sound quality is something they worked on during the beta stage, and it's something I informed them about. Audio quality is actually harder to do right than video when working with a small device.
I can't get past the wifi. 😭 its nor pulling my password over and keeps saying my password Is wrong
I only want it for a window to face outside so no big deal.
My blue light not flashing on
Recording is dependent on motion sensing. Turn off motion sensing when in Home mode and on when in Away mode and problem solved. The indoor cam video looks washed up because it has better HDR quality which is better for security cams rather than being too saturated with colors.
That's a new mode, didn't exist when I made the video. It's something I and others had been asking of Ring for years.
How do I reset this?
I bought it 2 days ago to see my dog , he can not hear me ! Bad
I can’t get my like to come over for the power
Why do you care if the camera is constantly recording since it's plugged in? I can see if it's the battery operated version and you want to conserve the battery. Just turn it off if you don't want it to record.
This works great if you airbnb your place or have children .
Stop beating up your spouse and you wouldn't have that problem 🙄
@@JasonSpitzMI50 Yeah as if telling a wife beater to stop will make them go "Oh man you are right I will totally do that." Give me a break dude. People who are violent don't change their ways that easily and need to be stopped sooner rather than later and video evidence will stop that because they'll be in jail for assault
good stuff
Just bought this and it’s not working . Set up light never came on .
Do You Know You Install This Camera In The Wall Too Not Only In Desk.
can i use it with my samsung smart tv, thank you.
No it doesn’t work on a smart tv.
no it doesn’t work on a samsung smart tv, thank you
Does this work with Alexa ?
Yes, you can use it with the Echo Show (amzn.to/3i3omq2) to view live or recorded videos from the camera.
How long can you record on this camera?
Typically these cameras just record 1 minute segments upon sensing motion and then stop. They don't do constant recording.
If I put a winter hat over them, will I have privacy? I'm staying at someone's house that I don't know well. Can he start listening to me anytime?
They have this camera installed or you do?
@@madame4883 They have three cameras. Before leaving they were showing me the house he said two of the cameras don't have audio so just turn them against the wall. Then he said this one has motion and audio so you can hide or turn it off. They all look the same so I put them in this little cooler, and then put them in the furnace room where it's noisy and far away from me. Then if I leave for the night I set them back up.
Thanks
So how does it store recording? No SD card? No cloud service? The only way you can record is sign a recording contract?
Totally lame!
My indoor does not connect to wifi
The siren on the smaller stick up cam is very weak and quiet. You can even talk over it... Not sure how that compares with the bigger cam version.
The FOV is way too small.
Just installed one way to complicated can’t get it to work. What a waste of money
There is away to turn it off and on.
Yes, there is now, because Ring received a lot of criticism like my video and finally added the ability to shut a camera off to the Ring app.
Small is not anproblem. Put some double stick tape done problem solved daaa. B smart people
So audio is eh
Correct. True of most security cameras, honestly. They don't have very good speakers built in, since that's a secondary function.
You can stop recording in the app !
No, you cannot. What you can do is stop notifications. It always records, unless you simply turn it off, which isn't that convenient, since you then have to turn it on manually every time you want it to actually monitor your home. A schedule would be a whole lot better.
@@TheTechBuyersGuru there is on /off button on the camera itself ???
Constructive criticism...
Don't care anazon bought...
Don't care box is too big.
Re:Camera movement by way of hanging wire...VELCRO.
Too much chat.
Other info good
not good explanation .
These cameras are terrible, cheap and a waste of money
