@@2AOverland not a bad idea! Better safe than sorry. I'm glad it's working out well for you! Let me know if your Fox’s ever start leaking, I’m over in Yuma,Az. Can rebuild or revalve your shocks over a nice camping trip on the west end of AZ. I’m down to help the channel any time!
That would be huge man! A trip to Yuma for some shock tuning and trail sodas wouldn’t be bad at all 😎👍🏼 we really appreciate it and I’ll keep that in mind! Do you have an Instagram?
Make sure and check your measurements before putting the tie rod on. There is no adjustment sleeve on the tie rod, which requires complete removal of the tie rod to do a proper alignment. Learned the hard way!
Love the round headlights. Need to replace my headlights and the entire bucket/bezel but I really love the round look. What mounts and headlights did you go with? What did you do for your turn signal?
Thank you! I went to a scrap yard and bought TJ headlight buckets and got some headlights at an auto parts store. When I did it there wasn’t really any options for the square headlights like there is now. And for turn signal I didn’t do anything 😬 I just let the bulbs blink lol but I wouldn’t mind doing some type of small LED as my turn signal but I haven’t done it yet
@@2AOverland Sick, I was thinking about doing something similar but haven't quite figured out what I was going to do for my turn signals. Great video by the way, can't wait to install my cavfab steering when it comes in a few weeks. Bent my cheap tie rod in half last weekend and decided this is the way to go, especially before going on another moab trip 👀
I’ve been going to do this but I have seen so many people saying not to do it because the advantages aren’t worth the long term wear issues. Apparently, it’s also not much stronger because, although the drag links etc won’t bend, the heims will just snap off instead. Love to hear your thoughts. Also, do you actually notice any difference when driving?
I’ve never heard of or seen the heims snapping off it would take a crazy amount of force to do that. From my experience heims are about the strongest joint you can get for steering. You just gotta make sure they’re lubed and not extremely dirty. But they are cheap to replace. I have not noticed any difference with driving with the heim joint steering
Are you still happy with the steering setup? I need to upgrade, but am concerned about street manners since we take long trips to get to the trails. Thanks for your work, keep it up!
My jeep is a weekend warrior but this kit would be more than enough to daily drive with it. The only wearable parts are the heim joints and that would take years to wear out.
I see the steering requires 4.5” backspacing or wheel spacers. I dont have the money for new wheels, what size spacer do I need? The current rims are American Racing Bullet Hole wheels. Ive got 31x10.50R15 tires as well. I was trying to get a new front steering rebuild from TRQ but they let me down 3 times on one transaction. Taking it as a sign to get the CavFab steering lol.
maybe i didnt see it in another video and i have a 2004 WJ That i Have all the HD setup from TF Im just setting up the Alignment and the track bar and i wish i kept my stock stuff for a starting point. but live and learn. Now my Jeep Cherokee only has 60K on it and it wont really see off road. I have Street tires and just wanted to go heavy duty . May i ask why did you switch from TF. JL Audio Everything Different strokes for dif folks i guess sorry for the long winded Question
Thanks for watching! I honestly don’t feel a difference. I like heims cause of their strength and they’re cheaper to replace than standard steering parts. You shouldn’t have problems with heims if you keep them clean and lubed
I’m installing this setup on my 98 xj right now. This might be a stupid question but do you have rotational play on the tie rod and the drag link after tightening everything down?
I have the rubicon express one. It works well if you have between a 4.5in & 7.5in of lift, And It fits the trackbar perfect. I have it bolted and welded to the unibody just to play it safe. Here’s a link to the trackbar bracket amzn.to/3EPV35P
Hey quick question. So my jeep xj is on the jacks right now & thinking 10 steps ahead I removed the old track bar/tie rod & drag link completely off without measuring anything. I have the new drag link, tie rod & track bar just sitting here. Which order should I install first?
In order I would install track bar, tie rod then the drag link. Then get the jeep under its own weight on its tires. Then see if your axle is centered under the jeep and if it’s off center you can adjust the track bar and use the steering to pull the body in place to re-install the track bar. Once the axle is centered do a DIY alignment with the TMR kit or take it to a shop to get it aligned. I hope this helps with getting your rig on the road! 😬👍
You can as a ballpark alignment to get you to the shop to get a legit alignment or you can do it yourself like I did in this video with the TMR DIY alignment kit th-cam.com/video/BkYpgKhfMV8/w-d-xo.html
Hey bro saw u have fox shocks are they really good and smooth on the road for a daily cuz mine is 4x2 but on 4.5 inch lift with 33 and it’s rough looking to get bilsteins or foxes
Thanks for watching! I’d say the foxes are a huge upgrade and definitely would smooth out your daily. I have the non adjustable ones but if you can sway the few extra bucks a shock I’d get the adjustable ones to have even more control of your ride
I honestly don’t know man 😬 I wish I had that answer for you but if it helps my wheels are -4.50 back space and I never had an issue so far. Maybe call CavFab and see what that recommend
Hey man thanks for watching! The body side bracket I have is from rubicon express and the track bar heim fit in it perfectly! Here’s a link to the bracket amzn.to/3TE7cBo
I called cav-fab and they said as long as the larger brakes bolt up in the stock location it should be fine. And if you’re doing WJ or ZJ knuckles the steering kit won’t work cause you’ll need a longer tie rod and shorter drag link.

Why can't you put the steering stabilizer bracket on the back side of the drag link and eliminate the spacer or put the long bolt in from the back so the threads aren't near the trackbar?
You could actually 🤔 I honestly didn’t think of that lol. I haven’t had clearance issues with the threads but if or when I change things up I’ll flip it all around! Thanks for that! And thanks for watching

You can flip the bolt for the steering stabilizer to fix the possible interference issue. Have the head of the bolt on the track bar side

Can u put the drag link in the bottom instead of the tie rod? I think this would help prevent bump steer
I don’t think you can since it wasn’t designed that way. I had a kit from IRO that crossed over like that and I still had bump steer
Are they supposed to be real tight after installation or do they have sime play in it
Mine were tight but if they have play that’s from the joints themselves and should be fine
Do you need a new track bar with the one ton steering?
No you don’t but it doesn’t hurt to do a beefier one while you’re replacing parts!
