Good video. The Jeeps Top and Doors come off and that is a much more fun off road experience IMO. I think the Gladiator should have a 392 V8 in it for that price point.

I’d rather have the 5.7 over the 392. Some of us actually commute in our Jeeps which is why I bought the diesel.

I’m not necessarily a Ford guy, but I have to give credit where it’s due. Ford did an amazing thing with the Ranger Raptor. I think it’s the best deal in the truck market right now. Not just the performance off-road truck market, but the truck market in general. The capability, utility, amenities and option set, and from what I’ve heard from basically every review, the every day comfort and drivability, at the price point Ford gave this truck is impressive. Take note Jeep, Toyota and others. A highly capable and not obnoxiously priced truck is possible!

Drove a gladiator. It’s not for me but I can see how it could be for someone else. Kind of a jack of all trades. Interior space was a little tight but I’m sure the ranger is too. Makes sense though on trails. I have no feedback on reliability but fun factor is more important imo and really all new vehicles are quite reliable compared to the good ole days.

Gladiator has more interior room than any other mid size truck. I can tell you've never been inside one or drove one. You're just a jeep hater.

Amazing. I have a Gladiator (2021 Rubicon) and I have found the complete opposite re: each of your criticisms.
And BTW, after just over 3 years of ownership (not just a test drive) mine is completely stock (still) with NO plans to "mod" it -- it's Top Dog in the mid-size truck segment as-is right from the factory, and WAY more capable thna I'll ever need (but if I DO it's there).
And there's a reason why Jeeps are narrow -- look it up. But as the other commenter here said (vict1036) I find the cabin plenty roomy, even being (sadly) a big guy.
Oh...and why is it a "money pit?" Mine isn't -- and it's turned out to be cheaper/less hassles to maintain (routine maintenance schedule) than my 2016 Honda Pilot EX-L AWD was.
As for the Gladiator Mojave, I don't do desert "Baja-running." WHY? What's the big hurry out there off-road? There isn't, so my "can also go fast in the desert" Rubicon is fine.
BTW, my Gladiator is as good a long-distance road-trip vehicle (seat comfort and smooth-riding on the Interstates) as my Honda Pilot was. AND steering is as good, too -- can't tell any difference.
      Go figure. ;-)
But you said it -- you "never understood" -- so it's no surprise you still don't. Nor do others who parrot lame/cliche criticisms of Jeeps in general.
Frankly the latest model Jeeps (Wrangler JLs and Gladiators JTs) are the best Jeeps have even been. Were I to buy new TODAY, I'd just get another Gladiator (Rubicon, of course) as I can't find a better "serious 4x4/off-road-focused" mid-size truck. Even the new Colorado ZR2 isn't equivalent to a Gladiator Rubicon (and forget anything Toyota, thanks).

I have to admit the jeeps I have drove have been saharas and sports. I haven’t driven more offroad focused trims such as the rubicon and Mojave etc. so I probably should hold judgement. Some of gladiator owners around my parts have been less than stellar. But yeah I’d buy Jeep over Toyota. I find Toyota a bit dull imo. More people should support American companies. I shouldn’t care how others spend their money but I’ll probably delete this;)

    • @billredding2000
      @billredding2000 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

@@laddyaddy1963 But you're right about one thing: Money. Current new vehicles (lately and even today) -- especially trucks of any size segment -- are WAY over-priced (exactly like the over-valued/inflated housing market!). Including Jeeps.
However, IMO the MAIN reason Jeep Gladiators aren't selling well is NOT "because they're crap," but because of the PRICING. They still are a quality/capable product. Jeep has pretty much owned off-roading for decades as others have come & gone -- still does own it. And as well, my Gladiator (mainly due to its longer wheelbase over a Wrangler) is a very comfortable/smooth-riding long road-trip vehicle on the pavement, so while its break-over angle can be a issue on the trail, on the highway it's a plus. And it helps towing, too, as a truck is more planted/stable towing than a SUV (like a also off-road-capable Wrangler/Bronco).
If I need to buy a new vehicle TODAY (I'd still be restricted to the mid-size TRUCK segment, not mid-size SUVs like the Wrangler & Bronco), I'd get another Gladiator (Rubicon)...BUT, I don't like the inflated price-gouging (aka: "what the market will bear" they say) pricing!
Still, if I want Top Dog mid-size truck, it'd HAVE to be another Gladiator (Rubicon) as the Colorado ZR2 -- although MUCH improved over the 2022 & earlier models -- still isn't equal to a Gladiator (Rubicon).
That's okay though...since Jeeps have a high resale value (and HAVE for decades!) I can sell mine, get a lot of my money back from it and make a huge down-payment...then finance the rest (which won't be much).
Still you're right about prices -- they're too high and it just seems to be greed-motivated.

After all the reviews and or side by side comparisons to the Range Raptor, I am sold on the Ford over any other product in this class. I would still prefer a V8 under the hood of my truck(s) but the RR seems to prove the jack of all trades in this class. Makes me wish I had a need for a truck.

Picked up the Gladiator Mojave a year ago. Currently have about 18k on the odometer. Yes the competition has the advantage on power and the on road benefits of indepenant front end. But there's nothing quite like being able to remove the top and doors for a little fun at the beach for my family. IMO it makes for the most overall fun. And the interior of the JL and JT are super comfy IMO.

I was really impressed with your knowledge of the Mojave. I was going to leave my suspension and tires stock, but after high centering it once...
Well, I got a 2.5" lift and went with 37" KO2s (which actually measure 35.6 Dia. so no regearing and still pretty light) no more high centering.
Using a formula I found on line I'm hitting 28.5° breakover-nice enough for playing on the rocks. Also I got JKS quick disconnect swaybar endlinks, but I haven't been anywhere to really put them to the test.

I'm in the market for a midsize truck, and two things keep drawing me to the Gladiator. Living in Florida, the #1 thing is the removable top, and #2 is the huge discounts that I keep seeing on new ones. However 95% of my driving will be on paved roads, and they don't have the best reputation for towing (would be a Sea-Doo or small camper). I know you're not testing that here, but I'm hoping this will help me decide one way or the other.

i got a 2020 gladiator sport s tow package, not max tow. towed a 30 foot bunkhouse, 5800lbs dry but probably close to 7000lbs with my stuff loaded in it from minnesota to oregon. and then all around oregon. towed pretty great drivetrain wise, got bullied around some having a 7000 lbs bumper pull trailer on a 5500lbs truck. averaged around 9mpg for around 2500 miles of towing. id highly advise 10 ply tires for heavier weights. super impressive drive train, as long as you understand you dont need to go 70 mph up a grade, id keep the rpms lower and would get down to around 45mph on the reallly steep grades.

Get the ecodiesel! By far more reliable! You live in a state where you can delete. These aren’t loud engines and there are a few mufflers on the market to quiet it down a bit. It may be rated for 5k towing, but it’s due to cooling with emissions. You can observe the coolant, oil, and trans in real time. I live in California with emissions in on 37s stock gear and going up and down the mountains the temps stay fine. Plenty of torque!

I pull a 4000lb camper with the gladiator and it stays around 3k rpm at 58mph getting 12mpg on (light) grades. I would say the removable doors and roof makes it worth it for me, but I love that ranger raptor and especially that engine. I say get a 4x4 ranger and wait for 2.7 v6 I think it is. That would be a killer way to go just don’t have the removable doors and roof. That’s my honest feedback.
      My truck spec:
      3:73 axle
      35inch tires

I installed 35x12.50 tires on my stock JTR and I don't think there is another truck available that could do the trails a JTR could. I realize they come with 33" tires which is most likely for fuel mileage ratings but 35's fit just fine offroad and 37's will fit if you are using it as a mall crawler. The same sizes will work on the Mojave which is actually a little higher in the front than a rubicon. If I was interested in high speeds offroad I might would look at the Ranger Raptor but more than likely I would choose a F150 Raptor R

efibendor: You're right -- but most people don't get the "Jeep Things" like why they (JLs and JTs) are narrow and why it has an "obsolete" solid axle. Most critics never owned one, owned an old one, know nothing about newer ones, or can't afford one -- so they just parrot what other airheads have said.
Try to take a full-size truck (Power Wagon, Ford Raptor, TRX -- yes, even as capable as they are) where Jeeps can go -- those others won't make it: They're too big, too fat (wide) and too heavy. And don't have what a Rubicon does mechanically. And the V6 is fine for a mid-size truck...no need for any V8 or diesel. How much HP and torque do you really need? Not much.
BTW, I also have zero interest in adolescent/kid-stuff drag-races either. Or even going fast off-road ("desert running"). Why? Slow & easy for me when on the trail...no need to scrape, dent, gouge, bend or break something (or "better" yet, do a rollover) to have fun. IMO...

No point in worrying about having the advantages of a solid front axle unless you're going to rock crawl, in which case that long wheelbase is going to be your worst enemy again. Stock trucks are NOT good in tight trails nor good for rock crawling. If that's your thing, buy a full sized 2 door Bronco with the Sasquatch package instead and never look back!

The Jeeps are over priced tin cans compared to the Bronco and the Jeeps can't just press a button to turn lockers on and off at will like my Bronco can. Then my Bronco also has trail turn assist which allows me to turn almost in place on super tight trails. Jeeps are outdated my friend. Sorry.

Main problem I see is price for either, but even more so for the Jeep. The IFS ride quality advantages of the Ranger are as expected. And it has that front locker and better break over angle. OTOH, the Jeep made it easily over that steep hill and rock garden WITHOUT any need for a front locker. Probably due to the superior flex of the Jeep's solid axle. I suppose also Jeep's break lock difs might be helping make up for no front locker? Do these newest Jeeps still have that? Probably.
The poorer breakover angle is a problem, OTOH rock rails all the way around behind the front tires, right back to the tail gate. So, just drag it if traction can be maintained. Jeep easily lifted and/or add taller tires to help with breakover angles, but that is even more $. .........
Lots of pros and cons either way, but that extra 10K is the biggest con for the Jeep.

Mojave's and Rubicon's are selling well below the price of the vehicle shown. They are comparing a Mojave X in this video and not a Mojave. The X package is a "luxury" pack that doesn't give any real off road benefits. The standard Mojave MSRP is in the $50k's and are actually selling in the $40k's. Buy a standard Mojave, put a AEV 2" spacer lift and 37's with a 5.13 regear and the Mojave stomps the Raptor, for less money.

    • @BillyBobTup
      @BillyBobTup 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

@@chrisgill7824 I agree! At least, for off road crawling or mud bogging, modded, it would stomp it. There is also the debate of solid front axle vs IFS, and durability. Vs comfort. Vs easy lift. Finally, I don't really know how much money it would cost to add a front locker to that Jeep. But if you did, then look out! ................ Speaking of pros and cons, there is one more thing: rear passenger and storage room. The extra length of the Jeep, the very thing that messes up it's breakover angle(unless lifted) gives it lots of rear seat leg room compared tp most midsize trucks. If you lifted it to improve that breakover angle, you still have all of that rear seat room.
