Ramachandra Guha, arguably the foremost historian of modern India, says the Modi government with Amit Shah as Home Minister has placed India in a “dangerous, divisive and self-destructive direction”. He says that the “stigmatization of muslims is the most worrying development under Narendra Modi”. Ramachandra Guha adds that “we can no longer boast of India’s democracy”. In 2007 he called India a 50:50 democracy. Now, he says “we are perhaps closer to being a 30:70 democracy”. He agrees that if this trend continues India will soon cease to be a democracy.

North-South divide is an extremely important point highlighted by Dr. Guha. Large states like UP should be broken up into smaller states so that there is no concentration of power. The BJP carried out Demonetization to get UP at any cost. They knew that once they have UP, it will become very difficult to stop them.

Look the quality of questions put forward by Karan Thapar and the detailed answers given by Ramchandra Guha from his book, sometimes elaborated even further, and the quality of wordings used by Sh Guha have convincingly described the situation and conditions of India in nine years' rule of the present political leadership. The book will be choice of wide classes. Thanks to both the Journalists.
The situation in India since 2014, has deteriorated so much that it seems almost impossible to correct. With absolute majority and dead opposition, India is heading for disaster. I tried to explain my near and dear ones but they worship Modi. The comparison between Indira Gandhi and Narendra Modi was most pertinent. India's downfall started with Mrs. Gandhi (a point not often made, maybe because of the sympathy factor associated with her assassination), and Modi is poised to take it to dangerously new heights if not stopped on time. India's democracy is its strongest point, which cannot be destroyed by self-seeking, small minded dictators!

BJP wants the group identities of Hindus to prevail and Congress wants everyone's individual identities to prevail...now of course the latter one is undoubtedly great for any country but in order to transcend one's Individuality over his/her group identity he/she first must be well connected to his/her religious and cultural roots...bcz a young mind craves for accomplishing Heroic goals and his/her group provides the path...it's only during walking down the path he/she understands what's really good for him/her...and thus prevails the individual identity...Hindus who feels Congress intentionally let them get disconnected from their roots (i think their feeling is not a result of delusion or ignorance) are only getting exploited by the BJP...that's how i see the whole picture...
Identifying individual identity does not explicitly means connecting to roots and definitely does not means connecting more with religion. Even before this stupid, uneducated and unemployed era of JAI SHRI RAM, Indians who believe in religion were connected well enough with their roots. Were worshipping their respective gods and holy books, etc. No one came forward with any flag in their hands saying I am this or that because that was absolutely unrequired. I have just seen what moral courage looks like for about 40 minutes consistently. Whenever I look at your interviews...it feels like someone is there who has a greater worry then me for this country. Show me a Muslim in an Islamic country who questions their form of governance and empathises with the government's treatment of minorities. The bleak picture Thapar and Guha and other liberals are painting is far away from reality. Look at the state of Muslims in Gujarat under more than 2 decades of BJP rule. Ask yourself if their situation is dire or better now than before. Liberals like Guha are blowing the trumpet about something that hasn't happened and has no evidence to support that it'll happen in the future.

This discourse is brazenly bold in the current climate of India's politics...the single ruling populist party has firm control over India's media and dissenting voices are gagged and punished by the powerful politicians and godi media today. Even the BBC got into their skin - really beggars belief and that's a downhill path for the country - the consequences will only be visible a few years down the line even though its escalation has already begun. Sadly, there is still no will or even an iota of awareness/urgency among intelligent Indians to put this right, which translates to that no-one, or very few care or is willing to put in the effort to stop this dictatorial madness. That is a great shame. But kudos to the brave men speaking out in this intelligent and compelling video and thanks for reporting and sharing factual information instead of spewing fake news or snarly opinions that are not based on facts.
