The beauty with Capacities for me is that I don't have to worry about the structure of my folders, if i put information into an object that I then think is more relavant to another object its easily changed over. I then use a dashboard object to gather all the info that I need on a particular subject, based on the MOC video that was done by Beth (the project object is basically the same thing) The only part of the PARA method I use is the archive tag, that I can then filter out of each object view but easily find all archived items through the tag.
I've been happily using notion for the past 4 years for my personal project management however capacities seems to have some additional features regarding pkm and standardisation. a comparison video advantages notion vs capacities would be awesome!
Just found Capacities recently, and it's great. Honestly, I've tried COUNTLESS other apps (Notion, Obsidian, Kortex, Clickup, etc, etc, etc) and none of them are right for me. This is the first one that just seems to function very close to how I think. Note/Question: You mention possibly creating an AREAS object type. Any advantage of that over simply creating an "Areas" or "Dashboard Pages" collection within the Pages object type? Ultimately it's just a nice way to have a page/dashboard to look at with all the Area info linked on it - not much more than that. Again - loving the product so far!
Great to hear it! Your own area type would be more customizable than pages, but if you think that pages work for your use case, a collection of them would work great for areas :)
Totally different concepts compared to Obsidian. I believe this method is real 'Networked Note-Taking' concept. I tried to make MOC pages in Capacities at the beginning but I just learned I should not do it.
I set up a "Quick Notes" object to catch all ideas I want to keep and later I want to move to other place (as Projects or Areas, etc) to clear that but I don't know how to move it completely. If we mention or link it, we need to keep it in "Quick Notes" forever. Do you have any solution for that?
If you alt/option click on the tag, you should see 'turn into link block' and that should give you three dots at the end from which you can choose the embed option.
Great video. For completeness....you can do his concept of linking and not having to per se decide where to put an object....in your file system. It's not entirely true you need to decide where to put it and you can only put it in one place... You can use links. Linux has it, windows has it and I believe mac has it too. Yes, right there in the file system. True, you must put a file somewhere, but you can reference it with a link from many other folders. I am not trying to take away from how beautifully it is implemented in capacities and it is a little bit different...but if you have no choice, or if you decide that actual files you will use outside of capacities, look into links. Linux actually since forever supports hardlinks and softlinks. I use them all the time
@@-ok- did you miss the part "For completeness...." ? Or the rest of the comment where I said much of this is easier to do in capacities? What was said was factually incorrect, so I corrected it. Or would you like to dispute that you cannot do linking of files in the OS on most major OS platforms? Besides, the reason I wrote it is because someone may have a legitimate need (many do) to do linking of files. So this comment is here for others to see it. Besides...no one is saying you have to take notes in text editor and terminal. There are many use cases to do linking on the file level. In fact the OS and many apps rely on this heavily. I have pictures for example, with soft links from various directories...so again, this has nothing to do with you trying to solidify your argument by saying it's only relative to note taking in text editor or terminal
Soon have arrived. I have just looked at the desktop app and found an update from Julys "What's New" and found the app is officially launched. Beth made a video too so you can see
Hello , In order to implement the PARA method on Capacities, I aim to create two distinct workspaces: one dedicated to my personal projects and the other to my professional tasks. What are the best practices for configuring these spaces? thx.
I do not recommend using this application. I've been experiencing instability for two days, everything simply disappeared. I've restarted the browser and installed the app and nothing. Worst of all, without realizing it I created an account with the same email as last time and the tool simply accepted it. How can an application create two accounts with the same email? It is an application with critical errors and low confidence
i just found this tool, bought the pro, and i'm making it my whole personality now
literally same 😂

Well explained and nice tool.
I am into it :)
Great explanation, as always. One question, why did you create a new object 'Areas' rather than using the Page object?
It gives some more flexibility over time as Areas is a custom type and basic types like Page can't be edited :)

You can use the 'turn into' feature. Here's a video: th-cam.com/video/51QNZdD3YVw/w-d-xo.htmlfeature=shared
@@CapacitiesHQ Can we turn into a block to add in an Object?
I don't seem to have the option to embed the Area tag into the page as you've shown here :(

@@CapacitiesHQ That worked! Thank you :)
Projects come with tasks. How would one add them? Thanks!
I'll be doing a video very soon about tasks, but check out the task action video in the meantime!

I don't think that this video's target audience is users who take notes directly in file explorer + text files / terminal...

I'd set them up in exactly the same way but just using different tags and areas. There's no quick way to duplicate space set ups though I'm afraid.
How would you do "sub-areas?" Example: Area=Health. Sub-area=Health/Mental, Health/Exercise
Does every object have a sub-area, or are some things just 'health'?
where is global mobile app
the mobile out is in beta right now for Pro and Believer users and the free version is on its way.
@@CapacitiesHQ any estimate on free version - broke
