How to Change An Object Type in Capacities
Please tell me how to create my own type of objects in the iOS app?
Hello. I cannot get the WhatsApp/Telegram connection to work. I followed the instructions without any succes. Could you be so kind to create a video with these features? Thanks!
When you do a block link, is that block itself an object that can be linked to? I mean e. g. can I link to the link from Apple Inc to Forrest Gump? A related question, if a link is an object can it be opened up in a page view and have notes added directly to the link itself (i. e. , not adding notes to Forrest Gump or Apple Inc but to the link between them) ?
Does Capacities have the option for one to email Objects into one's database like EverNote does?
When defining object types with the select or multi-select property types, can you constrain the set of objects which could be selected in the property based on a query?
I'm really surprised that this video is linked in the Getting Started portion of Capacities when you first open it. This is so rushed and the screen in bouncing around so fast that it's nearly impossible to follow. I'm a Notion user and assumed it would be relatively familiar process getting started in Capaciities. But, honestly, this just makes me want to quit before I start. It's completely overwhelming and utterly confusing. I'll try to find some 3rd party video to see if there's a better way to understand. But I'm more intimidated now than I was before I watched this.
thank you for this video - i am JUST STARTING with Capacities (day 2) and am trying not to go to far in one direction for set up until I fully understand. I travel A LOT for work and pleasure - would you recommend having objects for Country/State/City/Place , or organize with tags, or what suggestion do you have (i would be tracking travels, planning trips, logistics, etc). THANK YOU for any thoughts
Just make a template why complicate this when you can make a template
this can be a silly question, but what is this a feature ? like... why do people need this integration with other task manager apps? is just, you know... tap "+" in the keyboard on capacities and write"to-do" and DONE, you have the feature you need to manage your tasks... for real, i never undestesnd why people need this kind of integrations. but im just somebody who is try to "get organize" in life not only on my head for the first time
Like Notion but it's not Notion
Part of the examples are not so real or practical. Sorry, but could be better to cause a nice first impression.
The Android app is not ready for prime time. And, if you use the 3-button navigation bar, it's as if they don't know what the "back" button does.
How come you have this "-> today" button next to calendar and I don't? is this a setting? I can't seem to find it. I'm on the app. I am loving the app so far. Enough freedom to just build from the ground up but enough structure that I don't have to worry about making my own template for a meeting or a project. It's great.
The UI was updated - double click on the calendar button to go back to today. Glad to hear Capacities is working for you so far!
Hi Beth, I'm working out capacities. On first flance, it seems like the perfect combination of free-flow and structure that my brain needs. I am confused however, why for example if I create a meeting, and in the properties on the left it asks me "people involved", these people do not seem to link back to the object "people". This defeats the purpose as I still have to write "person x" "y" and "z" in a meeting. I might be wrong though. Could you explain further?
If you write @{person's name} in the property, you'll create a link to their object.
will it be this goodd on Android? Nobody likes to build app this good on Android. I’m just saying... 🤣
The Android App is out! Feel free to test :)
I discovered Capacities at random, looking for a good way to organize my notes. Notion is good for collaborative work or creating a wiki. I used Obsidian a long time, but I found myself spending more time setting things up with the plugins then anything else. Checked many others too. But this one, first impression, I'm liking it. It feels that you guys really deeply thought about the UX. There are some things that need to be worked out, like keyboard shortcuts so you can do everything without a mouse-but it's a solid start.
Is the Query option available on pro only ?
Yes, Pro only.
I am just getting into it, love the object-based approach to orgonise everything. Though, I invite you to slow down a bit when presenting things it helps to grasp the ideas effectively.
this is unbelievably useful!
I love capacities, but I use a pixel 8, and capacities thinks it's a tablet.
is there a feature where i can link a text to another text?? where both aren't objects? and is there a feature where I can link a text to heading that aren't the same?
You can link blocks together - check out this page in the docs docs.capacities.io/reference/block-based-linking#block-based-linking
May I ask what software do you use to edit your videos with those zoom ins and zoom outs?
Screenstudio!
I was using tags but I can't filter tasks. Now I know I can do that with a task object.
Autism app
Do you have any plans for adding a mind-map canvas in your roadmap?
is there an option to format text with some kind of syntax?
Can I display State in the link block view? Otherwise, I cannot judge whether the current task is completed through the Calendar page, and I must click on it to check it
Not if the state is in a property. If seeing it in a block is important, you could apply the status tag under the title, then that will show in the link block view.
I was missing on this 'Date variable as Page Title' feature for so long. So many customization and micro features are already available across Capacities. I get surprised with a new 'already available' feature every alternate day. I was also wondering about how the pictures are circular in Wall/Gallery (in your last demo video) .Now I know that "Content Preview" should be displayed and not the Picture itself. 🤩🤩 (I'm loving my People Wall with all the rounded images) Thanks for always engaging and considering user feedback. P.S: "Show for One per day" for objects created from Calendar is also a 'quality of life' feature that may look insignificant on the UI scale but adds so much value for the workflow (especially for Daily Journal, Retrospective Reviews, etc.). I am hoping for the next evolved version (for Habit tracking use cases) to have the option to customize dates (Everyday, Alternate Day, Weekly, Monthly, etc.) on which Habits like Running, Hobbies, Sleep for 7 hours, etc. will show up on the Calendar for quick adding the logs (and "Show for One per day" will work here beautifully)
I can’t add an object of a basic type from the calendar, can I?
thx for the tutorial.
I find this app easier than other too much complex apps like notion and obsidian
How would you do "sub-areas?" Example: Area=Health. Sub-area=Health/Mental, Health/Exercise
Does every object have a sub-area, or are some things just 'health'?
All I need is Capacities + Anytype
Question: You created now a quite understandable graph. But I didn't saw you doing something with it... is it just a depiction of my relationships with no further purpose? Or could I also mark two nodes and get selected all the nodes in between of them? Or mark a single one (and maybe also filter some properties/tags to get the graph reduced to only those nodes remain having a relationship to the central node and share the properties filtered, too? Or alternatively: Can I export such a graph into a .graphml file or in an importscript for neo4J, so that I could perform such graph analysis then in neo4J database or yEd?
It's a visual depiction, there are no filters at this time. You could export your whole space and import the md files into an app that has a graph view with extra features.
There must be an easier way to integrate a person into sentences I type in my notes. All I can do is type /person and then name. Annoying.
If the person already exists @{name} will work :)
Thanks Beth! You def make Capacities Pro worth purchasing! Your explanations are thorough and simple and easy to follow.
That's great to hear, thank you!
thx for the tutorial. Very useful.
Just what I needed, thanks!
Looking forward to Ipad App, 😊😊😊
Hello , In order to implement the PARA method on Capacities, I aim to create two distinct workspaces: one dedicated to my personal projects and the other to my professional tasks. What are the best practices for configuring these spaces? thx.
I'd set them up in exactly the same way but just using different tags and areas. There's no quick way to duplicate space set ups though I'm afraid.
This was a very useful video. Many users starting their Cap journey often fails to understand the practical differences between tags and collections. I figured it out just a week ago and since then I have ensured a balance between them. I was overusing tags and while with queries tags were also subgrouping the objects, but it was making the tag list too much overwhelming and Collection labels has a better UI. Thank you, Beth, for always demonstrating with real examples. I am curious about those circular masked/framed profile images. While mine shows circular profile images after opening as they the default page layout is selected as profile, but the images look too messy in wall and gallery view. Please tell me how did you manage to get them circular? 🤩
Thank you! I show the content preview in the small card view :)
Beth, I'm a Pro user and I don't have the option to use AI in creating tags or collections. This is something that only avaliable for Believers for now?
All paid users have access to it- have you turned AI on for your space?
U already showed this in ur yt channel! love u so.. im Seeing this limit compared to a different app.. object types should probably not be a method of organization. So I do not understand the purpose of collections compared to tags. almost encourages a limited form of thinking, where object types are seen anything like folders. We should just stick to tags, collections do not do anything different or better than tags I don't think.
You can certainly stick to tags if that's what works for you!
Thank you so much for this helpful and accurate clarificatin that helps me a lot in setting up my new capacities instance.
Glad it was helpful!
I wish that Objects could be Extended by additional properties (so that we can have Object "People" with visible properties Name, Email, Notes for example and Extend it by Collection "People/Musicians" with some additional fields , like Band, etc, visible only for "People/Musicians"..). Or maybe Extendable tags (subTags) may do this.
very useful video. thx
That's what I need! I'm just getting to know capacities, you released the video on time! Go on, you are very cool, capacities team💪
Thank you!
