Yes, yes it is, the only thing i legitimately enjoy about this game are the memes and the sqash and stretch animations and maybe some dialogue

No, it's not. Other than Sonic 4 Episode I (NOT Episode II) there isn't a single negatively viewed Sonic game that deserves its reputation, not even one. Some are misunderstood decent entries (Shadow, Secret Rings, Lost World, Forces, the Rivals duology, Rise of Lyric), some are mid but have some redeeming qualities (Free Riders, 3D Blast, Superstars, Heroes) and some are legit bangers and everyone is straight up just wrong about them (06, Sonic 4 Episode II). Sonic fans just don't know how to be normal, they all treat 6/10s and 7/10s like 1/10s and they treat 8/10s and 9/10s like they are 100000/10s, they have no in-betweens.

Addendum about 06: 06 is straight up fire. Play Project 06 for the gameplay, watch a cutscene movie for the story, and completely ignore Sonic's story parts and you have a terrific game.
Triple S is best.

@@justakidicarus1191 Fine enough take, although I'd argue against the Sonic story part, play that too. Distance yourself from the fact that people don't want Sonic to be in a romance storyline (at least without Amy) and it's a pretty well told narrative, Elise's character is well written with a coherent arc, the lore drops are interesting, Sonic's characterization is great and some of his wisest and most inspiring. Aside from the constants abductions it's a good plot.

@@Alpha_beef Rise of Lyric is insanely overhated, people don't like it cause they don't want that type of Sonic, not cause it's bad. Animations, voice acting and presentation are peak, audio design is great, gameplay is good, the story is OK-ish, the hub worlds are well enough designed, it's fine. Performance is a scapegoat negative that doesn't reflect the game's overall quality, as it is for 06 as well. Rise of Lyric is a 6/10, it's fine.

"Gameplay is good"? I'm baffled. I mean, I agree that the story is fine enough and the voice acting is great, but you can't call it a "6 out of 10" with how poorly executed it was, _especially_ in the gameplay aspect. Because that makes up most of the game itself. 'Cause, y'know, it's a _game._ And I don't think the people who worked on it should get any flack for what little time they were given, because that's totally not their fault, it's the fault of whatever crummy publishers and/or higher-ups decided it was a good idea to rush it out for the holiday season. But the final product is just... extremely bugged. Like, even down to the cutscenes. That's how bugged it is.
There's even the case of Sonic Heroes, which is a pretty great game overall, but it gets pushed down to like, an 8/10 because of the sheer amount of bugs in the game. There were so many, in fact, that QA were supposedly told "if a bug doesn't break the game or prevent Sonic and his friends from progressing through the story, it is not to be reported." And that's the bane of most, if not all of these games - being forced to release way too early because of some money-related reason, being poorly managed, or sometimes both. Most Sonic games like '06 and Boom would've been S-tier if they'd just given it way more time and care.
Yeah, most of the Sonic games are _"playable,"_ but does that make the gameplay itself "good"? Sonic Adventure 2 isn't without its quirks, and yet it's one of the most beloved games in the entire franchise, and while that's mainly because of the story, it's also because it doesn't feel like you have to fight the game for control over how it plays.
