Take a mostly uninterrupted trip down the first 45 minutes of the upper platte river. Entry point is at Veterans Memorial State Forest Campground, Beulah, MI 49617. A good exit point (~2 hour trip) is at South St (N. Zimmerman Rd.). Although, you can take the river to Deadstream Rd. which will add an additional 90+ minutes to your trip. If you do take the longer route be prepared to do a lot of paddling as the current is almost nonexistent near deadstream, hence the name.

I can't tell you what seeing this video has done for me. We had a place on the Platte from 1956-1969 or so (you go by it in this video at about the 33:39/43.04 point). I practically grew up there on summer weekends when my dad would pile us all into the car and off we'd go for the two-hour drive to Honor. Circumstances forced my dad to sell the property and I've felt that loss ever since. Whenever I get up that way, I go down the road past our old place, wishing I could buy it back and have it in the family once again. Thank you so much for the look back and the memories.
