    Actually played around with this last night. Hooked a lot of triangles🤙🏻one of my bigger brown belts shut me down a little bit but he probably watched the same video haha. It was pretty easy to just transition to another guard then right back to it.

    Awesome. Going to drill it more this eve. Hoping to use it at Kasai this weekend. Working it more from closed guard and will film something in a week or so

    Awesome guard system, thanks for refining/sharing Jon.
    It might help some people to point out that the first few min of this video are specific to breaking down a standing opponent and the actual Vice Guard set up starts around 3:05. From there, a triangle/straight arm is already locked up about 15 seconds later :)

    Beautiful! It feels like there is a good crucifix entry there when you move to the back with his hand stuck between legs like that.

    I've been playing around with that for a while already. Still find difficulties on longer people than me, taking on consideration that I'm quite short (1,61). Hahah. My short legs won't help me, but I really like The Vice. Congratulations on this amazing creation man.

    Jon, although I appreciate you sharing this knowledge for free, you honestly should be monetizing this information. Your instructionals are worth paying for.

      rz0svp Hey buddy really appreciate it, I have ways of monetizing though webinars, Grapplers Guide, and online privates instruction so I’m not completely selfless. I will probably start a site in future as well but right now I’m just focused on giving value to people first so they know my style of teaching and what I have to offer. Thank you so much for the support it means a lot.

    I know little to nothing - so there's that. But, what is stopping someone from utilizing the underhook to throw the leg over the other side, essentially clearing that lasso? Either that or grabbing a cross collar once you underhook and trying to stack?

    • @JonThomasBJJ
      @JonThomasBJJ  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      The TH-cam Critic I cover that in the video. Use your left butterfly hook and that will stop them from throwing the leg over. It’s hard to look at technique and come up with hypotheticals I urge you to try to position first and spar with it test the butterfly hook and leg across hook I show in this video. If you still keep getting passed send me a video on IG and I will check it out and give you advice, but you need to test the position first it’s too hard to have an idea about a position by just looking.

      @@JonThomasBJJ Thanks for the reply! I tend to get a bit over analytical with new to me techniques to feel better prepared to put them into use.

    In vice guard is the goal always it get the opponent to crouch / post one arm? I’ve been playing with it but entering from just basic DLR when the opponent is still standing... and I can’t really attack much when they are still posturing like that.

    • @Boimli
      @Boimli 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah, hand on the mat to open up their armpit so you can shoot the triangle.

    • @peterllacuna1627
      @peterllacuna1627 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Try catching the cross arm sleeve and granby roll. The momentum of the leg coming down on the arm seem to naturally break and lower a standing passer's posture.

    • @JonThomasBJJ
      @JonThomasBJJ  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      mixxeerr It is very strong if you set it up when they are down, but if they are standing it’s strong too just need to break them down or chase the back more

  • @Sethger

    Hey Jon, did you already encounter some counters which are hard to defend? Or do you think that once you got the vice guard established its just a matter of time if you get to a better position/submission?

    In your experience with this guard has anyone tried stuffing the leg and going to deep half? To go with the strong grip rather than to fight it?
