    Now that's a thorough review! I just had to reluctantly sell my 2017 Disco sport, as we are moving countries. It's been a great car for us, my wife loved it for commute to work, and wk ends I took it off road a view times here in Oz, it was great, sand, gravel bumpy roads and absolutely smothered in mud after some decent off-roading, of course you can't rock crawl in it, but it's very impressive. Once washed it turns back into a very comfortable, quiet road car. Yeah the old Infotainment was slow, but the meridian surround stereo more than made up for it, it was superb. Never had a single problem with it, won't hesitate getting another JLR

    Brilliant review and so informative! Yes the off road capabilities are second to none, but as a Discovery Sport owner; and, as nice as the car is I wouldn't dream of buying a new one. No contest, it would have to be M B!

      GLB? not as good off road, looks ok if you are inside not looking at the exterior which in my opinion is ugly.

    I own a 2017 LRD Sport ES with 30,000 miles and still very happy with it. it is the 5 seat option, but don't miss the 3rd row or extra features that are on the other models.

      Had a 66 plate, HSE Black edition. Was ok till water started pissing through the panoramic roof. Dealer said they couldn't find anything wrong!
      I researched it, JLR knew about it as they issued a recall. There was an issue with the roof panel between the windscreen and panoramic roof. Dealer didnt wanna know. Discusting after sales, especially as I'd brought 3 cars from them previously

    The old model CR-V Honda 1.6 twin turbo has 160hp and 350Nm and the same ZF gearbox, so the 150hp Ingenium in this heavy Discover Sport isn't exactly cutting edge or sporty. I don't quite get why they don't use a diesel in combination with plug-in system for the ultimate versatility and economy.
    The biggest issue with this vehicle is that if you spec it up to match a Volvo XC90 then it about as expensive as an XC90 and who is going to buy a £55,000 Disco Sport? LR were obviously struggling to sell their vehicles before the current pandemic, and I'm afraid that a large proportion of this market has disappeared for the foreseeable future. Apart from anything else it's a whole lot of expensive car with nowhere to drive it, for at least the rest of this year. The market has disappeared for now and perhaps forever in terms of previous volume sales.

      The Disco Sport has been JLR's best selling model since it's introduction selling over 400k units. Yes it might not be the best, but it looks good, and has the JLR badge which yummy mummies on the school run want. People who buy cars like the Disco Sport don't care about performance, or technology, or fuel efficiency, or price. And unfortunately, even when specced up to match a XC90 the Disco Sport looks much better.

      I like the general styling and concept of the vehicle but it is now too heavy, obviously too inefficient on fuel use and relatively poor value for money. The steep increments in price for different tunes of engines are in no way justified for instance. I doubt whether they will find customers for another 400k units.
      I can assure you that people are more discerning than you think and they do care about the stuff you say they don't. Besides which, in a recession they will be far more careful on what they spend their money on.

    • @hedydd2

      @Realist 1801
      You do know that the 2.2 is a Ford engine? The Ingenium is 2 litres and a slightly more efficient unit, just not efficient enough, especially mated to a radically overweight body that actually weighs more than the Range Rover Classic. Until the recent update the ingenium fitted to transverse drivetrain vehicles, the RR Evoque,Disco Sport and probably some Jaguars, have a serious design issue where the DPF is mounted too far from the engine and often fails to heat up sufficiently to successfully regenerate. This commonly results in gross fuel contamination of the sump oil and, ultimately, excessive engine wear and shortened service life.
      Personally I would never buy a pre-updated transverse diesel Ingenium engine vehicle, new or used. There is no engineering or other solution to the regeneration issue. The only solution they could find was the new bodyshell that allows room for a close coupled soot filter. THAT is the reason they redesigned the body and no other reason.

      Honda CRV not a true off road 4x4 , I towed a Honda CRV out of a ditch in a field, along with a Toyota 4x4 at the same time with a Freelander 3 , after eveyrone telling me it could not be done,!

    • @hedydd2
      @hedydd2 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@petergrimes5115
      From 2015 on the CR-V was modified to be able to send a higher proportion of drive to the rear axle. It gets me up and down the banks on my farms just fine, but it obviously isn't a Defender or Discovery. A blind man could see that. Otherwise the greatest difference in performance on any slippery surface is down to tyres. Believe me, I've owned and run a vast number of 4x4 vehicles from several Range Rovers and Land Cruisers to pickups to cars such as the CR-V and current Volvo XC90.
      The current Disco Sport has a totally different 4wd system to your Freelander of course. Yours has the Haldex5, which is also used in the XC90 and some VW cars. The current Land Rover has a GKN system which doesn't have differentials apart from in the front transaxle, most of which are the ZF HP9.

    Good review as usual but when you got to the point of cost! Ridiculous , I have a 2019 SsangYong Rexton ultimate which you have reviewed and does everything in equivalent luxury that this LR does for literally thousands less with much better reliability and warranty too, forget the badge and look else where including the excellent SsangYong 👍👍

    • @joshuac5043
      @joshuac5043 4 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      SsangYong ‘does everything in equivalent luxury’ but sorely lacking in image and desirability. They have to sell cheap for those who want ‘equivalent luxury’ but can’t afford a Land Rover.

    Just configured a 240hp HSE with a few extras like surround cameras and pano roof, without going bonkers, yet the price soon reached over £57,000 which is directly comparable to a Volvo XC90, again with those extras but a whole lot of extra stuff as well. Oh dear!
    As for the LR superior capability off-road, you must be kidding when talking about this vehicle. There's a bit of the black one in the video obviously hanging loose underneath, and it looks like a bit of plastic panel. Not exactly reassuring. For proper rugged you need to step up to Discovery 5.
