The key is keeping it serviced regularly at 10k miles not the LR scheduled 20k. I’m planning on keeping it for a long time as it does everything I want it to do. The advantage of the 2lt over the 2.2lt is that it is Euro 6 compliant.

OMG. This channel just went full circle for me! I first found the channel when I was looking for a Disco Sport, about four years ago, and have been watching since.
I bought a 2.2 Disco Sport SE Tech SD4 manual in identical spec. Even has the same OEM towbar. Land Rover pre-registered a load of these in this spec as it was the launch colour and many of them were demonstrators. As it's half way to having a black pack with the mirrors, tailgate trim etc. I decided to complete the look with the additional black pack items and a set of black 20" OEM Aerovipers shod with a fresh set of Pirelli Scorpions. Basically looks like the HSE black pack spec. (the halogens are the only giveaway - and no, I haven't taken the SE SD4 badge off!)
I usually keep cars for three years, but I love this thing so much, I'm keeping it for the forseeable, it's been faultless.

I currently own a FL2 TD4 auto and a 2016 DS SD4 SE Auto. All that I can say is that they are surely proven for me the best of the best in reliability and comfort. I use the FL2 on gravel roads and as 4x4 - It is still better than any new Toyota 4x4 of any model!!
Just keep to the following when buying a TD4 or a SD4. First think block off the EGR and remove the DPF and use the best diesel you can buy. By doing this it just increases reliability by preventing exhaust gas recirculating through the engine leading to unessary carbon deposits in the engine and polluting the oil. Always add Ceratech from Liqui Moly to the oil. It is worth the costs and really reduces friction in the engine and it is noticeable smoother running.
Keep it away from the agents where you get ripped off - there are more than enough really good private Land Rover service agencies.
And lastly you can treat yourself with a reliable and recommendable remap from Celtic Tuning. The new specs is 174 kW and 500 Nm torque. It makes it even more driveable and flatten the torque curve for lower rpm at travel speed. 1800 rpm at 120 kmh giving me 12.8 km/l
What more do you want from a classy 4x4!

Mechanically what is the problem. Love your videos and have to laugh every car you check out, it’s filthy and needs a good scrub. Rickie from down under

Finally, someone who's telling the truth about the Ingenium or what we call en España the INFERNIUM engine. I'm just finishing a video in Spanish about how to buy a Disco Sport and the 'truth' and 'LR deception' about this engine including a recording of the saleslady giving misleading information about service intervals to me. It's great being an LR fan but it's also good to inform less wealthy viewers of the potential money pits that many LR cars can end up being. Thanks for the information. Qué sigas así con los videos. Strange thing is, despite the Freelander 2 getting the Sd4 engine in 2010, it was only available as an automatic. However, the general consensus on the forums is that it suited the auto box perfectly as the Td4 was a bit sluggish with an auto box.
Lovely car Matt, that was slated to be the Freelander 3, until some bright spark at JLR decided to add it to the Discovery range to make a "family" of vehicles in the way they did with the Range Rover range. So, it's a natural progression for Freelander 2 owners to move up to one, which many on the dedicated Freelander 2 forums have done. I will say though, many bemoan the interior, claiming it looks good, but feels cheap to the touch !
Both me and my brother will move to the DS when we decide to eventually move on from our Freelander 2's. Both on high miles- I'm on 160K with my 3.2 petrol i6, and he's over 180K with his Sd4 Sport LE - but they're just so reliable. Plus there's nothing else out there that suits both our needs.

A little off topic, but if you do have to abandon the vehicle in snow and walk up the slope (did I mention the bears?), No danger of it being nicked, broken into or vandalised here in rural Japan. You'll be glad of a walking stick and a pair of wellies. However, coming down on compressed snow is a lot more tricky than going up, so one tip in addition to the stick is to put say 5.0kg of weight into your old backpack and tie two metres of rope around the handle. This acts as a brake as you drag it down the snow-covered slope, as a twisted knee is no joke.
