    Super thorough impressive review! One thing I want to add that many people don't know is a tailgate clearance adjusting feature. Keep the tailgate at a desired clearance (height) then press & hold tailgate button ~5 secs until you hear a beep then your tailgate won't open all the way up. great feature for children. To reset press & hold then manually raise the tailgate to upward.

    One of the best reviews out there especially for the D5. I have the 2018 HSE Si6 and I think it is so underrated. Just like he said, if you can't afford the $130-$200k Range Rover, the D5 delivers as close to a Range Rover without emptying your Bank lol. 7 seater luxury vehicle with 3rd seat that can feet real adults at 6 feet is unheard of in most SUV.

    I had a Discovery 4 Landmark, but sold it recently at 3 years/55K miles because the risk of crankshaft failure was difficult to ignore for much longer. I would not buy a Discovery 5 because of the rear tailgate styling, engine oil dilution/DPF issues and the continued risk of catastrophic engine failure - do your own research!

    Incredibly detailed review. Dealership should perhaps point people at something like this rather than the sales people who never seem to have much idea about what a car comes with or doesn’t 🤷‍♀️

    I’ve often marvelled at the recall skills of the presenters on this channel. However I wonder whether some form of autocue is being used, given the eye flicks up/down/up/down when delivering the facts. Reading a script? Hope I’m wrong 😀

    Fair review and as a previous Discovery owner (v2 & v4) give me back the D2 , less electronics and almost faultless for over 80k leading to greater reliability. Not as "swanky" as D5 but living in Scotland and seeing so many newer LR's being on flatbeds being rescued, makes me wonder if this is really progress?
    Would never consider another LR unless it was the sadly retired "real" Defender (or an immaculate Td5 D2!).

      Totally agree,no matter how sophisticated it is,if it’s not reliable it becomes expensive shiny junk on the side of the road(or track).

    If they had Lexus reliability and customer service they would be a great buy but sadly this is not the case. In the light of the aforementioned Landrover/ Range Rover would never get my hard earned. Thanks for the very thorough review.

      I've a Landrover, a VW and a BMW - My last 3 breakdowns were VW (Failed Battery at 25,000 miles - dumped me on a single carriageway A road and even the hazard lights did not work - AA man said known problem), BMW (Failed EGR at 2 years and 30,000 miles - Massive BMW recall to sort out the issue), BMW (15,000 miles and 1 year old - Took 2.5 months to repair due to lack of spare pars in the UK). Landrover has never broken down and now on 104,000 miles and 11 years old. When the Landrover has needed the odd part, there are 5 UK suppliers who can have the part on my doormat the next day. Don't even start me talking about the Toyota POS I owned or the 6 to 12 week waiting time for Toyota parts!

    • @bondjamesbond9041
      @bondjamesbond9041 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Clavinovaman They are only working because their owners have spent thousands in repairs and maintenance. Providing they are well maintained a Lexus will easily outlast a Range Rover/ LandRover. Go check out documented reliability/ customer satisfaction surveys Range Rover/ LandRover are always at the bottom.

    Once again an excellent review! Can you say something about the reliability of the Discovery? Is it really still contemporary to claim that Landrover is less reliable than Volvo or Audi these days? All brands are pumped full of high tech and digital helpers nowadays, all of which can probably break down at the same rate everywhere.

    Great review of the disco. Some things I don’t like on all jlr cars, button for opening glove box, sound of the door locks and the pull of the bonnet catch all feel cheap . Other than that great cars 👍

      @@rivervalegroup quite possibly yes, but would give it a year or so , as with all JLR new engines, like these in line 6 there will be some issues to sort 😂, but the new Defender is more tempting 🤔🤔

  • @stardustbilermam1736

    I’m confused. The new defender is being called the true discovery 5 and 130 long wheelbase will remove the need for discovery.

    This looks hideous, especially from the back. The rounded off design does not work in my opinion. It has lost the rugged looks that made the previous version so appealing, although still unreliable junk. Id sooner get a Land Cruiser or Shogun Sport. I still fail to see why the LR badge is desirable. People are such mugs.
