  • The Scotch yoke is a mechanism for converting the rotation motion of a crank into reciprocation motion. The piston or other reciprocating part is directly coupled to a sliding yoke with a slot that engages a pin on the rotating part. In this video the shape of the slot is such that it enables dwell at the one end of the reciprocation motion.

Thank you for your comment. I guess you can put a center core which is joined to outer envelope of the cam from above which will restrain the pin during the whole rotation of the disk?

If rotation is 90 degrees as you specified, yes it would rotate. But you could use regular scotch yoke to do the same or a crank slider like mechanism.

Hello, thank you very much for your awesome videos. We can learn a lot from these animations. I would like to ask you a question : What systems could I use for the separation of different diameters tubes in order to perform a machining process. These tubes are going from 12.5 mm to 200 mm of diameters and 1 or 2 meters long.

I think not. If you add a flywheel maybe, but timing the push and pull would be difficult and you have to manually start rotation of the flywheel first.

My thought was to rotate the disk 90 degrees. Let's say the disk pin was at 4:00 o'clock and 8:00 o'clock positions. The angle of approach from the sloted pusher would allow the shafts to freely push the disk without binding.

Thank you for your subscription and nice comment about my web site. I am looking into the mechanism you described and will be in touch soon.

Can the shafts be pushed to rotate the disk?

Wonderful that the slider is fully restrained, unlike in the double dwell mechanism. Any solution for the latter?

Hi Jai, I do not have any dimensions for the animation. This is not a CAD program. I just draw it during development process.
