I recently had to replace the interior fan controller module of a 2005/06 Laredo. I suspected that the cabin filter was dirty, which caused the module to work harder than it should. However, when I removed the glove box, I couldn't locate the filter. After some searching, I found your video, which helped me understand that the filter is actually an after-market part! I just wanted to thank you for your assistance. Cheers!"

Just replaced mine on 2008 CRD and the final piece doesn't really lock very firmly (although its a mopar so i am surprised) and will probably will fall apart in the future from vibration so I am thinking to use the well documented "zip-tie" method to hold it together.

You didn't show the old filter being pulled out. Was that behind the existing black rubber rectangle you pulled out? Not sure why you had to order a new holder.

Because I never had a cabin air filter from factory.

In researching this for my 2004 Cherokee, it wasn't an option from the factory. The official Mopar kit # ends in 300. I found them on Amazon. The Mopar was about $65-70. A different unit was about $45. Both only had particulate filters. For about $29-30 you can get ones that filter out everything, even odors.

06 doesn't have one from the factory either. If you don't decide to "upgrade" and order the whole assembly, I guess you just go without.

You know why he had to order a new holder, Bud? *Because* yo Momma *raised the dang prices* of her midnight Blumpkin *Special* to *$17CAD* (~38 Cents U$D). *Now* we're in a recession, Stinky Nutz. So I hope you're happy, Bud. I hope you're *real* happy.

Is there anything inside the holes interfering?

Does this mod also work for Commander?

I'm not sure, based on the fact that its different chassis

Same kit for The Commander if you have the HEMI but If you go to your local Chrysler Dealership, Parts Department, They'll special order you the NuSpeed ColdAir Cabin Filter. If you have the regular SRT9, There's a Greddy RamAir Cabin Air Filter System but it's pricey.

Very poorly engineered vehicle, all others go behind the glovebox. Can't believe someone got paid for this Rube Goldberg design.

The whole vehicle is poorly engineered because of a cabin air filter placement?

There are many things I found Jeep to be lacking in engineering. The inline six.s on the Cherokee's. The crankshaft position sensor is in a very difficult spot to get at and the valve cover is buried under wires and vacuum lines. @@ZacsAutosports
