What about Sam Harris? I thought the Atheist World needs more of Sam Harris. I mean Mehta's talk was good, but he didn't even make fun of Christianity or Islam once. Sam Harris would've made fun of both religions 5 minutes in. He's an icon.

Sam Harris does his thing all the time, but he's not omnipresent, so he can't be everywhere at once.

This is why I'm glad to be neurodivergent. If I was a human being, I would probably have fallen for the whole "religious community" thing as well.

this gentleman goofed on the number of atheists in the world today, they're no longer a 'small group' , The numbers show that in 1970 there were 165,500,000 atheists worldwide, about 4.5% of the global population. In 2010, the number of atheists had fallen to 136,582,200 or 2.0% of the population. If trends continue, according to the study, there will be 136,685,000 atheists in 2020, or about 1.8% of the world population. So it is growing not shrinking?

"What are churches doing right that we're not doing?"
    Religion has easy answers.
Atheism has simple answers but not easy ones.

I have multiple secular groups and they are supportive to the levels and above the levels I ever experienced as a believer. We help each other often, and we do charities regularly. Anecdata perhaps, but let's talk about the atheist groups that ARE doing that as opposed to stating we're really not.

+Daevo Rozo This is not preaching because it was clearly an event that was organized and he was invited to speak. Preaching means that you go out on the street and speak loudly to people whether they want to hear it or not. Furthermore it is a double standard if you are theist to imply that it is a good thing for theists to preach but a bad thing for atheists to preach.

This is a lecture series. Preaching is a lot different. Preaching is an event where people tell you how and what to think, whether you want to hear it or not...it's a master speaking to his servants. A lecture series, where people volunteer to hear a speaker, is not a forced event and no one is forced to believe what's been said.

420 Colorado speaking publicly about our opinions is just something people do. Religion doesn't get to pretend like it owns that and everything else is just borrowing from it

No, he's an atheist speaker. Atheist assemblies, even Unitarians, have "talks", they do NOT "preach".

Great talk Hemant, with a lot of interesting and useful things to think about. I was sad to hear that the Black Lives Matter and latrine projects failed though. As both of those had non-white beneficiaries, do you think that maybe reflects a racism problem in US atheism? As an outsider (I'm British), it does look like a somewhat white (and male) dominated movement. What can we as atheists do to be more inclusive?

The atheist community will progress when it realizes Christianity is not the enemy, understands atheism does not need to crusade, and acknowledges it does not know everything.

The Biblical texts outline sources and legal status of slaves, economic roles of slavery, types of slavery, and debt slavery, which thoroughly explain the institution of slavery in Israel in antiquity. Each section - Exodus 21, Deuteronomy 15, and Leviticus 25 - provides an ..... Matthew 20:20-28: A series of remarks wherein Jesus recognizes it is ...Jesus’ view of slavery compares the relationship between god and humankind to that of a master and his slaves. Three instances where Jesus communicates this view include:
Matthew 18:21-35: Jesus’ “Parable of the Unmerciful Servant”, wherein Jesus compares the relationship between god and humankind to that of a master and his slaves. Jesus offers the story of a master selling a slave along with his wife and children.
Matthew 20:20-28: A series of remarks wherein Jesus recognizes it is necessary to be a slave to be “first” among the deceased entering heaven.
Matthew 24:36-51: Jesus’ “Parable of the Faithful Servant”, wherein Jesus again compares the relationship between God and humankind to that of a master and his slaves.

Atheists should support and participate in things such as art, museums, parks, libraries, science fairs and other outdoor events, community service, picnics, fund raisers and on and on. There is a huge untapped potential that needs to be filled when one turns away from GOD and the ritual of Sunday being preached too

If the god of the bible had been portrayed as a king instead of a God , he would be remembered as the most evil, mass murdering, tyrannical dictator of all time! Christians give the bible god a free pass because, they say, he is god the creator. I don't see the difference whether man or god. If his actions were evil or immoral, as the bible states, then he'd be just as guilty of being evil as any human committing the same deeds.

I think GOD is testing are faith and seeing if people still will worship even though you got all these things saying GOD doesn't exist and if you think about it science has found evidence for God's existence and this is science were talkin about here it seems like science and religion are kinda coming together and you atheist took science from GOD in the first place
