    Hanoi's Old Quarter is one of the great destinations in Asia, densely packed with open store-fronts, lots of people, scooters buzzing by, many cheap places to eat, historic buildings and friendly people. The Old Quarter of Hanoi is often known as the 36 streets, but in fact, now there are more than 36 streets, each one providing rewards for the intrepid visitor. 35. The old quarter is different from other places in Hanoi. Preserving the houses in the old quarter is very necessary, and according to the plan, the Hanoi people committee are planning to preserve the old houses in the old quarter, so it can keep the original state. However the planned renovations might change the existing historic character, so you better visit soon to get this authentic old-fashioned experience.

    I watched a couple of your videos and liked the way you shot the videos, and the quality. Very nice. Going to find the rest of your videos. You brought back so many memories of my youth. Keep up the good work. We are going back there in the near future.

    Hanoi is a fascinating, historic, old world, delicious city! Loved it dearly. I pray it will return to its bustling and vibrant ways and that the pandemic will not alter or destroy it. This city is truly unique.

    Great vid. I like your very natural style of narration. Your footage brings back lots of memories for me. I spent 2 months in Vietnam back in 2009 (before I started making travel videos myself) and thoroughly loved it, but I never got to spend much time in Hanoi. I might have to go back again soon, this time armed with a camera.

    thank you for the video. the old quarters has been around since the 11th century. i've traveled to hanoi twice, and i also loved old sino-french architecture. it is truly unique. the problem with vietnam is it wants to be like singapore by making "westernize" highrisers. now even the singaporean govt now realize their mistake of modernizing too quickly at a cost. and i mean economic cost, since many tourists want to see the "authentic" asian culture. their govt realized that mistake and has started a cultural preservation project. I hope it is not too late for hanoi to do the same.

    • @denniscallan
      @denniscallan  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Nick, thanks for raising a good question, but yeah, in my travels I have not found many streets in "the western world" that have as many people buzzing in the midst of action as Hanoi's Old Quarter. Sure, we have Times Square, London has Soho, Paris the Champs-Élysées, and you can point out wonderful pedestrian zones in nearly every European town, but for the sheer clash of people, scooters, cars, cyclos, little trucks, stray dogs, open shop-fronts, sidewalk food, all crushed together in a delightful human scale (I love it), no, we don't have "much" of that in our Western world, especially in America. Hanoi is not unique in Asia, which is full of this scenario, but the West is not so much. Thanks for bringing it up.
