I was in Hanoi in December 2023 and on Train Street. You can still walk on the road so your comment is correct. Yes, the gate is across the track blocking regular people to just walk in but the cafe owners are standing outside of the barrier and bring you in and are legally allowed to do that. I have pictures of me on the side waiting for the train to arrive and photos/video of it passing me by. The train times are 9am 12 noon and 3pm so to get there 15 mins before is recommended. you're welcome.
Certainly one of the best Hanoi vids we have seen. Showing the location of attractions on the city map was brilliant. And it helps to sort out where to stay in the city. Now onto your Ha Long Bay vid. Thank you. Max. Australia.
Nicely presented video. I spent 5 weeks in Hanoi Summer 2023 as a visiting professor and am returning for 6 weeks Summer 2024. Looking forward to exploring more of Hanoi.
Great vlog, thank you. I fly to Hanoi on Thurday. Cant wait. I love the way you show the attractions on the map. Thats really useful for me planning my Hanoi stays.
Filipino here, I visited Ho Chi Minh with my family just a month ago and immediately fascinated and liked Vietnamese culture, history and cuisine! We'll definitely go back to Vietnam and Hanoi is it!
Hi guys! A word about train Street...if you head south of the train station (south of P. Kham Thien street) you can still walk the tracks to a bunch of cafes and restaurants. It only seems to be blocked off closer to the old quarter area where the tracks tend to get more overrun with tourists. Check out Hanoi 1990's or 65 Railway Coffee. Keep the great content coming, cheers! 👍😊
Yes we also visited a café on Train Street (1977 STATION - 06). They got us in via a different way... but the police was sitting at the entrances and it was blocked. Just can't promote something that's technically not "legal". But of course there are still many of the cafés that are trying to get you inside!
10:11 I’m very impressed with how you experienced the puppet show in Hanoi. Water puppetry is an ancient form of folk art in Vietnam, and the government is making great efforts to preserve and promote it, aiming to attract more audiences, especially young people and international visitors. Truly appreciate!!
I met a girl online, who is Vietnamese. After a few months of talking, I went to visit her. She gave me the exact tour you gave in this video, as a Hanoi resident. Her insight was so fascinating, but I appreciate that you give a guide to experience the same, life-changing trip I did (and without a local). Thank you for letting me relive my trip, and I hope to move there with her in December. I can't wait to go back. Hanoi is home :)
Outside of the US, visiting museums and religious sites typically requires respectful/ conservative/ modest clothing for men and women. Always helpful to have one outfit packed.
Zac you're such a great story teller, I haven't been back to the north of Vietnam in so long, your video makes me want to book a flight back to check the hustle and bustle of Hanoi, I was glad I got to explore Saigon last year, it was an amazing experience.. 😊
You two have the best travel channel! So detailed, relevant travel information and excellent commentary. Hope your heading to Sapa and Da Nang as we are heading to Vietnam in 20 days from the US:))) Cam on 😊
Thanks so much! We'll be uploading Ha Long Bay this week and next week Sapa! We didn't make it to Da Nang at this time as we focused on northern Vietnam only. Enjoy your trip to Vietnam!
@worldwildhearts Thank you:) We can't wait to see your new videos on Sapa and Ha Long Bay. We will follow your guides in Sapa if we go and definitely in Albania later this year. Happy Travels:)))
your video is so calm and quiet, however, when we were at Hanoi 2 weeks ago, it was super loud and crowded. everybody was using their honks and tried to rush and hit us while driving bikes and cars
Thanks Sir Recently we r family group tour at vieatnam.. awesome.. excellent experience...I love vieatnam.❤ Stay safe & healthy 🙏🙏 from Kolkata.India🇮🇳
i've just got home from vietnam i spent 5 days in hanoi and went to train street twice you can now walk on the track and sit next to the train track to watch it go by which is amazing beer street is great and so is the market but you need to negotiate prices and massage places are popular but very good and cheap as restaurants and street food very cheap

I just love your videos! Have been watching them for awhile now - found you guys when I was planning a trip to Assiniboine. We must have similar travel interests because every place you post we have either been there or it is on the top of our list! I was wondering if you could offer your advice on our Southeast Asia trip. I wish we had the time you did but we only have a little over 2 weeks. Thinking of going next October (2025), starting in Northern Thailand (Ha Long bay and Ninh Binh), then going to Nong Khiaw in Laos (wow!) and ending up in southern Thailand (in the Phuket area). We are not fans of big cities - we like to hike & kayak and be out in nature as much as possible. So my question.... do you think we should split the time evenly between all three locations? It would give us 4-5 days in each spot. Or do you recommend spending more time in one area over the other? thanks!
Thanks! Haha that's possible! And that sounds like a great trip! Ninh Binh and Ha Long are nice. Nong Khiaw is awesome too. Would add Luang Prabang as well if you have the time. For Thailand, Phuket area was our least favorite. It's very touristic and doesn't has the same beautiful beaches as elsewhere. But there are areas around it that are really beautiful.. like Khao Sok, the Phi Phi Islands, or Krabi. Not sure you're going to any of those? I assume you're flying out of Phuket? Would spend 5-6 days in Vietnam, 4-5 days in Laos, and then the remainder in Thailand!
@@worldwildhearts - thank you so much! Will see if we can add Luang Prabang too! Yes we are actually avoiding Phuket other than the airport to fly in. We are staying on Ko Yao Noi. That is the main reason we are going because we get to stay for free at this place due to an arrangement with my company. Thanks so much for the tips on how busy Phuket is - we really enjoy more remote and authentic places. Have fun on your next adventure!
We were at the train street yesterday evening, everyone could just walk on the tracks and almost every Café was opened. We sat down at a table directly at the tracks, ate food and drank beer. Train came twice between 9 and 10pm.
I went to Vietnam a month ago, loved it ☺ opted to go to Saigon first, since it's the supposedly superior city for tourists 😂 but hope to visit Hanoi on my next visit.
very well done video but...I just come back from Hanoi and I am not so enthusiastic...the constant noise of millions of motorbikes ( which makes also Hanoi one of the most polluted city in the world now ) also parked on the sidewalks leaving no place to the pedestrians, is just a nightmare...I was there in 1993 and 2003 and it was a more pleasant place with much less motorbikes and tourists. Make no mistake, I am not against tourism or changes but we have here a perfect example of bad management of both...Food has also become very average in the tourist places. I might travel back to Vietnam but will happily skip Hanoi next time...
I was on Train Street last week, I literally had my dinner there with the train hurtling past. The alarm goes off and the tables just get moved or folded down.
@@yashna88we just had a drink and bar food. We didn’t book. The train comes fairly regularly so if you miss it, just check the time table for the next one. We were in Hanoi for 4 days and seen the train about 5 times 😂
great tips. Thank you. What is best money practice in Vietnam ? cash US? Bring VND Dong cash? Credit card? I notice most of the transfers are charging in US cash or in VND ? any tips? I am going there on Oct 12 . Thanks
A lot of places in Hanoi will accept credit card as well. But for the countryside you’ll definitely need cash. We just got our Dong from the ATMs in Vietnam. They do charge a fee
Asking because I am vegan. Do people in Hanoi still eat cats and dogs? And, if so, can you see him in markets? Definitely not trying to be rude, just wanting to go.
Didn’t see it in Hanoi. There definitely are places in northern Vietnam where they still eat dogs and cats. But it’s in a very remote part - like Ha Giang

It’s even ok at the main bit still, all the cafe owners hang around and take you through the back to their cafes. We were there on New Year’s Day!
