Hi Tom. First of all i wanna thank you for the video. I have been flying with spektrum for 10 years now. Last 5 years with the DX9. Two of them actually. Yesterday i forgot to turn it off and me and my wife went to the store. Alarm went of with vibration and the radio fell down on the floor and broke. Well i was thinking of getting my third DX9 but i have wanted the ix12 for a while so im still not sure. But trying to read a little about it gives me little cause it is almost only negativity. After watching your video i started to think that it is always easy to spread shit but never any good. I love the way you explained it and i guess im buing a ix12. Tom your narration takes out the fear I had when I started learning the IX12. I own a DX9, DX7, and a 5 that are all great. I still dont know why I bought the 12 !!
Thanks for that explanation of the complaints and their cause. People who don't read the manual usually do complain. I have one coming and I am replacing a Hitec Aurora 9x that still works fine and the only reason I never went with Spektrum in the first place was I did not like the scroll wheel or the programming method on them.
I love the IX12. Its a little slow when changing menu or updating the software. I keep a cell phone battery bank in my radio box to charge up the radio at events.
I've been very suspicious of the iX architecture (based as it is on an Android tablet) HOWEVER you made a lots of very good points and gave a very balanced and down to earth review. I'm still cautious at present but far less so. Nicely done, Sir.
Great review- although it’s been out for over a year, it’s still a VERY new platform. At its heart, the iX12 is half Radio/ half computer. It takes a little time to get all the data back so real changes can be made, and the majority of bugs can be found, let alone fixed. I’ve abandoned other tech products too soon in the recent past due to the same “youth of platform” growing pains- Only to have the bugs ironed out about the time I’ve got comfortable with another product I didn’t really want in the first place. Patient is key here, this will be an insanely good radio after it’s come of age
Thanks for the video. It is a nice radio but its first generation and i would like to see the responsiveness of the screen on par with a smartphone. But would you comment on the latest firmware (August 2019) and maybe show how to change model on the radio? Thanks for all your videos.
I didn;t say those were problems, just what others consider problems. If you watch the instructional videos the battery life thing goes away as does the slow start up. If you are going to a new or different model than the last one you flew it can take a couple minutes to load, way shorter than needed to put most planes together.
Gotta admit, I was close to grabbing this ix12. Instead I went with the Futaba T16SZ. Glad I did. However, I absolutely will go for the ix20 when it's back in stock @ Horizon Hobbies. 💖

I pre-ordered a NX10 but I’m considering the iX12 instead. I don’t mind the Android setup but it also isn’t something that I care much about. Does the Android make setup easier than what’s on the NX10? I don’t care about having other apps or an electronic manual. Please help. Are there other differences other than the 2 extra channels and the pretty screen that I’m not considering? Thanks much!
Have to disagree with you on this one. My first 12 had so many issues and (Yes I read the manual). Horizon sent a new one and a month later models corrupt all by themselves! I am not kidding and I have many years experience in RC and have Dx 6, 8 and 9 and love them. Flying at an airshow last weekend, a model corrupted itself. It's not me, look around the internet and you WILL find MANY problems with this radio.

So did you ever buy the ix12? I’m wanting one too. It’s a toss up between the dx9 and the ix12. My dx6 g3 is somewhat limited access in my option.

I just ordered it. Hasn’t arrived yet. I’m using my DX-6 now and it’s a good first transmitter. I’m ready for a step up though.
