You can also go into developer settings and limit background processes to only 4. That will really boost your ix12. You will also save more battery life and boot under a minute.

I'm actually running a tango 2. It's just easier to throw in a bag, and I don't have to worry about breaking an expensive radio. But I really miss my ix12.
Thanks for the video it helped me make the decision not to buy this transmitter. I just can not understand why they put a bunch of apps in a transmitter. I want to fly not belayed by the load time. PIus I do not need to search the internet or play games on my transmitter. It seems like a wasted effort by Spektrum. I hope they come out with a NX12 or other 12 channel radio that doesn't have all the unnecessary stuff.
I agree with you on the unnecessary apps (bloatware). But, despite that, it has never caused me to lose flying time. I power it up first, and it is ready to go before I am. It's got some issues, but the interface, and ease of programming far out weigh them. It's definitely not for everyone, so I understand how you feel. Informative video. The IX 12 incorporates TOO MANY "FEATURES" (aka built-in Apps) that are TOTALLY UNRELATED to improving electronic flight control integrity! Their REMOVAL - not "Disabling", from the system software would significantly reduce boot-up time and provide longer Tx battery life.
Apology: The "features" belong to the Android Operating System software that Spektrum uses to drive the IX 12. Disabling versus "removal" is the only viable option.

We have to put up with this from our cell phone too, and our carriers. I wish they would have used a more future proof processor and memory set. The tx has been working very well for me nonetheless. Thank you - this totally fixed my laggy issues. Boots faster and my Airware software responds faster now. I disabled almost all Apps, except the ones necessary. Before when I would flip a switch that had a voice assigned to it, it would lags 5-10 seconds after flipping the switch. Now its instant. I can't thank you enough!
i am enjoying my ix12. i'm with u as far as i keep wifi and blue tooth off most of the time when flying. i turn those on if i'm just goofing around with the radio at home.

psst... you can FLY as soon as the Tx is turned ON... The iX12 has TWO separate systems... FLIGHT CONTROL and ANDROID... The flight control system allows you ALL flight functions while the Android boots...
That was never a topic in this video, simply boot times to access Android, switch change reports, and general speed of the system with some apps disabled, and using airplane mode. I really appreciate the comment, perhaps I should have mentioned it.
It's running a lot of processes, on an outdated tablet (at the time it was put out to consumers even) with too little ram and memory. I just turn mine on first thing when I get to the spot, it's ready by the time I am.
ABOUT!T Would have been good if it was sorted out rather than rushed out .A brilliant radio with forward thinking that would have put Spektrum on top ,but they blew it .I've been a diehard Futaba guy for twenty years and actually considered this at one stage ,but I don't want to do their beta testing for them.
I agree, if only they would have put a cutting edge android interface in there. It's a shame really. I'm still happy with it, and it's my daily driver, but I have yet to update it, as I've read mostly negative feedback after ppl doing so. I hear an ix20 is around the corner, let's hope HH have learned from this.

Nice! Yes there is. Some people have had really bad luck with it, but I think they are using it for Facebook, music, maps etc, then, like any other product, there are some (few) that have issues out the gate. Horizon hobby has excellent customer service for the latter. If you just use it as a radio, it's been fantastic for me. I hope you enjoy! @@apriliaguy4life198 I haven't had time to update for a while. There are a bunch of guys on the latest version with no issues. If I were you, I would use the radio with the firmware that's on it for a while and see how it goes. If it's running smooth and does everything you need it to, I'd leave it. Unless you need it to do something that's only in a newer version.
Cool video, I don't get why it would even have those apps on it. It's to run a transmitter not to play games....I'm getting one should be here next week.
I think if it had newer hardware, with a faster processor, it would be cool to use some of the features, like running a music app, and playing the music right from the radio for example. @@Mikebfpv Yes Sir! According to RC groups, the switch audio will not transfer from the DX9 to the ix 12. Example: I want to hear a voice response for throttle cut-off, or for the flaps switch, pos 0 : flaps up, pos 1: take-off flaps, pos 2: landing flaps. etc. I have been having a hard time puzzling out how to do this. I came from a dx8g2, and I remember something not playing well when using multirotor to start a model. I've always just used this method. If you try it, let me know how it goes. I'd appreciate it. Thanks for the feedback!
I just saw a video where the guy used multirotor. Setup is the same, but the trim tabs are gone. That could be a good thing. I'm going to set my next one up this way and see how it goes.

Of course, you could probably find an ix12 for pretty cheap now days. I'm not 100% sure, but I'm betting the ix12 will bind to any spektrum rx. I'm not sure about the Jr rx.

Mine has been fantastic. I have not updated it for a long time, as there were some updates that were causing some users to have problems. I do believe the last update has fixed these issues, and I plan on updating to see how it goes. I do hear good things about the jumper, but I'm on all spektrum/crossfire also. In short, it's a great radio! The ix20 is out now too, if it's in your budget. Double the speed, (double the price lol), but I'd never need 20 channels. I ordered the ix12 today at Tower h,about 11:45am,they had 1 day express free shipping for Christmas that was ending at 1pm🙂..I decided to get the red one...I’ll see what update number mine comes with and keep in touch with any tips you have,like your disabling certain apps video you made👍..when you turn it on to fly a model,do your turn screen off ?🙂...should get it tomorrow 🎉😄

Ya, I would turn on the wifi and go to the play store first thing (may have to register, and do some setup first) and turn auto-update for apps off. See what version the app is on, if it's up to date cool, if not, I would use it for a while and see how it acts. The latest update is supposed to be great. Also, after you load models, I would back them up on an SD card. You might choose to do that after every model you add. I have yet to have one corrupt, but some models are time intensive, and you don't want to lose one. I don't personally turn the screen off, but I hear it saves battery. I have an upgraded battery in mine. I've been seeing maxamps is the hot new place to get one. Keep in touch!

Just got new ix12 yesterday going to fool around with it today have cross fire for it waiting on cable from horizon hobby. Taranis x9d se with crossfire and several quads and receivers package sale, thinking selling my dominator v3’s upgrading to hdo. Thanks for your info
Going on over a year with it, still an awesome radio, haven't even thought about switching! Well, the tango 2 looks nice for a compact solution, but it's crossfire only. Ix12 is awesome, and simple to use.
Awesome! You may want to hold off on any airware updates, I've been reading alot about corrupted models. Join the ix12 FB group to keep up to date on new updates. Let others try them before you do. Congrats!
I had that same question running through my mind for a long time. I ended up going with the ix12 in the end for a few reasons. Touch interface, custom change reports, wifi updates, extra channels, and lastly, they made a white one. I'm very happy with my decision, but you'll have to justify it in your own mind. @@Mikebfpv , the paint has hairs it and pits, bits of black smudges under the paint, where it comes thru. I contacted horizon over it and the seller on ebay. bad quality. I could do better with a rattle can. their quality has really slipped from when I first started doing business with them. I have a full set of 6 of the miniums mint in the box for display, not even to fly, they were their first micro planes, about 15 years ago. they looked so good... anyway... it's just something I thought of when I think how their quality has slid.

I have an ix12. I set up a friends plane the other day on his ix20, and the Ix20 is like the turbo model. Way faster.
I've noticed using sleep mode seems to save battery better that turning it on and off during a day or afternoon of flying.

Why didn't you choose multirotor when creating a new model?..maybe if u choose that you dont have to reverse those channels?
