Thanks Dean !! I never knew that built-in RDP client has a shadow feature. One of the reasons why our company is not happy about Remote help is that the SCCM remote control is part of SCCM license and the expectation is to have the the ability to use remote help tool without additional cost along side Intune license
Yeah, RDP can do a whole lot! I understand about remote help and SCCM remote control, sometimes finding the right service for you and one you don’t have to pay extra for…can be tough
Does anyone know if the you need a license for each user (enduser and helpdesk staff) for the Remote Help Intune app, or just licenses for the Help Desk staff? Are they statically applied to users or concurrent?
Correct remote help doesn’t work for servers because Intune does not support servers. For servers use Bastion or RDP. YES remote help can take control of unattended sessions
I use CMRC app to remote on to a PC and take control if needed. This isn’t available on Azure. I was looking into alternatives and quick assist seems like it’s made for personal use, not enterprise. But I guess the shadow feature in the beginning of the video is kind of an alternative? Seems like a lot of information is required from the end user but at least there is an alternative. Doesn’t look as simple as CMRC where you enter the host name and click connect.
The benefit of quick assist is the connection. Must be authenticated by YOU and the User before the connection is allowed. That’s critical because the connection is over the internet…obviously if you are using a tool over your LAN that is more direct and private…but that isn’t always possible

I'm kind of appalled. I have to support W365 and AWD. Clunk, add license, oh you have to download, its not built in, oh per tenant = way more complex. To wrap it up nicely, I'm finding 'under' the hood blocking of 3rd party support tooling. I've grown to hate W365/AWD. Its made worse because things are so broken the help is required more than on prem, but you are gonna pay to reach the same level of support, be that in time, learning, support, licensing, complexity or otherwise.
ouch...seems like we struck a nerve here! I'd like to know why you find W365 / AVD is worse or broken? maybe its how you are setup? Whats the worst issue and lets see if we can fix it!
@@AzureAcademy I'll give you two examples, just from today. Anydesk - options greyed out. Can be run, but not used. Product called Trigold - on any normal PC env, it works. On AVD, endless poor behaviour, reboots required. 'Maybe its your setup' - the classic response to stuff not working as it should :P
I love AVD and I am kinda relaxed because I don’t need to worry about apps not working, not installing, Windows updates are not there, different versions of office. I am free from all these since some of our clients move to AVD. I have two different clients with different settings. For one we use golden image, install apps, create UAT session host, test it and deploy it. For other simple app needed so using MSIX app attach. It takes trial and error until you find the sweet spot. It all depends on Vm size, number of users per session, gpo, connection speed, ram, is it breadth first or depth first. Are you using fslogix, check that part? Disk size is also important. Or may be the app is not supported on a server or on multi session OS as mentioned by Dean. Or check out this video from Dean, this might be helpful in your scenario th-cam.com/video/C3w30h3VWxc/w-d-xo.html Hope you get it working and start loving AVD again 😊😊😊 Good luck 🤞
@@AzureAcademy I suspect the vendor would not have a clue. While I could after many years allow you the latitude to shift the blame to a 3rd party, lets just go with if you want to pitch 'windows box' in the cloud, the onus on making a working version does not sit with the 3rd party. If I sound frustrated, yeap. Am. I'd burn this to the ground, and I've had another bellyful of this through the work day today. Its being compounded by the fact, and it is a fact that MSPs in their efforts to make money from the trainwreck deem interposing 3rd parties to help 'manage' the costs and admin - now add additional layers. In our case we're using a 3rd party panel, and not intune. To cap it all, on the image in use - I suggested that we might utilise quick assist as a more direct support path, and low and behold it isn't installed and my line management turn into Disney's goofy about 'well we don't want to change the core image'. The more I look at this, the more if I put a buttload of working into panel-beating a shitty product into a product - I see, the less motivated I am to spend any time with it. I have to for work, so no doubt down the line I'll get there. Its going to be through hatred and gritted teeth. Anyway - moving on!

True, it gets tricky sometimes 😊

The licenses are statically assigned to a group of users…and all the users need the license

For those apps…I assume you are running them in a pooled environment on the windows multi session OS. Does the app vendor support this?
