A wonderful example of how modern technology has made growing your own food even more reasonable and rewarding. The point of evolution was to take what our ancestors did and make it better, but instead we just made some people do the farm work while the rest of us sit back. I’m hoping more and more people start to realize the tremendous benefits of home growing food.

Back in the 70s when my family had a garden we didn't do canning....we blanched & froze everything ! The tomatoes were done a little differently. We cut them crosswise and dump out the seeds, then when used for sauce, it was clean. Yes!! Tomatoes freeze beautifully. Got too many cherry tomatoes, freeze them. Then when people are coming over, dump the out onto a cooking tray, drizzle some oil over, and sprinkle with salt. Slow roast those in the oven until charred/blackened bits develop on the top. Delicious!
I need to figure out how to meet people like you guys, I'm from a small farming community I've had gardens pretty much my whole life if not just forage. I love everything that you guys do it's really cool.

That tomato water makes for excellent soup base with stock or pour over a roast in the crock pot...can it up! The skins can be dehydrated and pulverized to make tomato powder to be reconstituted as paste/pureeor used to thicken soups, etc. Love you guys!
With the exception of my Spoon tomato (hundreds of fruits the size of peas and a plant that is pushing 8 feet in spread), I have had the opposite of abundance with mine this year. Glad others are doing a lot better.
My mom taught me that we can keep the skins on your tomatoes. We use the blender and blend the whole tomato. Put into a pot and boil down the liquid. Tastes great, less work and you still eat the vitamins in the skins. Yummmm.
A tip I learned from the epic gardening channel is to pick your tomatoes when they’re green before they ripen and store them upside down to continue ripening that will give you more shelf life i hope you find this helpful ~
You can also harvest them earlier on the vine so they ripen on the table there's a stage in which they are going to get his ripe as they will whether you take them off then or later. Allegedly you lose some flavor with putting tomatoes in cold settings like refrigerators and freezers it turns off some enzymes permanently but it is probably not very much
THIS is the video I've been searching for. We just have a few at a time this year and its making me crazy because I want to can but don't have enough 😅
But the flavor of the juice adds too the sauc d e..i used to boil the liquid and refreeze and then use it to mzke venuson bone broth. It worked beautifully.
Save the tomatoes water. Use inreplace of water in recipes. The skins can be dried out and blended into a powder. Then, I used to add flavor or make tomato paste when you only need a little
How do you either prevent or fix the acidity in tomatoes? I baked some cherry tomatoes with olive oil, bell peppers and feta and then blended it up and oh my god it was almost inedible with how acidic it was. About half of the tomatoes weren’t fully ripe but they were deep orange so I don’t know if that had an effect, but even after adding some of my keto sugar (which helped slightly) I still couldn’t eat it. So I’m curious if I can even make a keto tomato sauce that’s actually good. Maybe it’s just the tomato variety?

If you're like me and really love the flavor of the tomatoes around the seeds you can also run them through a food mill to separate the seeds out. It's definitely a lot more work, though.
Sometimes, yes it's a problem. That happened to us for eggplants. I just planted 2 tiny little plants but they grew to be beasts and got so many eggplants. We shared it with neighbors, friends but they kept on coming...unable to do anything we pulled out one plant and trimmed the other down.

You can dehydrate the skins and make tomato powder 😊

This is an answered prayer. Lol. I needed to know this
That sounds like so much fun!
Thank you for the tip!
Also for anyone being put off by having to take the skins off individually, you can buy a tomato press where it is much faster to do this.
I just use an immersion blender 👍🏻

This is great advice, my only problem is the same as pre-made freezer meals: freezer space.

Oh wow! Seriously brilliant! Thank you for this🙏
I keep wondering if you guys do tomatoes! So cool!
genius 👍 Definitely going to remember this. Thank you!
I don't bother skinning my tomatoes. Don't mind them in the sauce and it's less work.
Before you freeze it, if you core the tomato and score the bottom side with an x, then freeze it, the skins come off SO easy when they thaw!
Right on time!
Inspirational 😊
I'm so jealous I really wish I had a bunch of tomatoes
Three key words... 'Abundance, Friends, Everybody',❤
Its a good tip to freeze tomatoes. I do this during growing season or when i pick up a bargain. Then you can make a fresh Bolognese.

🤔 A canning party 😳 That's a fascinating idea.
I was just thinking about this and wondering what to do. Thank you!
Keep skins! Dehydrate until bone dry. Grind fine! Add to soups or to things that need tomato flavor! Spice combo.. Amazing concentrated flavor
I love this. Let's deal with the abundance.
They can be freezed? Awesome.
I have a tomato soup recipe that uses the whole tomato. No need to take skins off. I often use the recipe to make sauce since it’s a condensed soup.
Heck yeah!
Don't throw away skins, the dehydrated tomato skins or sun dry tomato skins, could be ground into a powder that can used as strong tomato flavor.
I wanna live where you guys live! 😭 I can be an urban farmer!
You can also can the tomato water and use it as broth!
THANKYOU!!! I have San Marzanos! So meaty! Only good for sauce! So, you're my beastie now!! 😂❤

I have the opposite problem
Like your canning how do you think pesto would be preserved best? Oxigen chamber removal?
Yummy tomatoes
We planted sweet millions this year, can we do regular tomato paste with them? I've eaten SO MANY Grape style tomatoes 😮
😊
A bucket of DE or wood ash will preserve tomatoes for ages. Just make sure they’re buried well.
You also don't have to toss the peels. You can leave it in the sauce.
I made some delicious pasta with a tomato from my moms garden yesterday

Really need to know what kind of tomatoes those are! Please?
What kind of tomatoes are you picking there?
I love a tomato party
Those tomatoes look really good for sauce. What kind of tomato is that?
Some are Roma and some are Cannestrino di Luca. Both great for sauce, paste and sun-dried tomatoes
Now we need a recipe 😋
Does freezing them change the flavor?
What variety of tomato is that at the beginning of your short?
Try a determinate variety. They'll all be ripe at the same time.
How do you get rid of your seeds?? Or do you??
We cut the cores and squeeze them out before putting them in the bags to freeze
If you're like me and really love the flavor of the tomatoes around the seeds you can also run them through a food mill to separate the seeds out. It's definitely a lot more work, though.
What variety of tomatoes are those? Doesn’t look like Roma but I could be wrong

My canning book forbade me canning any tomatoes that froze the night before. So I dont know why?
Doesn't the cold destroy the flavor?
Nope
It does ruin the texture
We use them for sauce and paste so it doesn’t matter that the texture becomes mushy
Its some more wirk but so worth it!
I'm in a war with the chipmunks in my yard. I'm harvesting at the barely yellow stage.
