I agree with you! I understand thatthe riders would feel the needto go faster into a fence of thie height but it just lead to the horses flattening and not making the correct t shape over the fence :/ maybe they also shouldn't have been standing in their stirrups, they would've been able to push more and gain a better seat had the horse refused badly :/ just my opinion but fp that is an incredibly impressive height to clear so they were doing something right :")
i agree, going at theat speed and clinging on is no way to ride :( the horse lost all impulsion and flattened over the fence, not to mention how harsh the riders were being in the horses mouths! I always find in show jumping (theres always someone) who really holds their horse back untilthe last minute and i feel that it would be more effective to allow the horse to find a sustainable, forward rythym in the canter to keep the impulsion? then again, I'm no expert so it's only a thought :) but fences at this height with solid poles is a bit too much, especially pushing the horses over and over the fence even though they are clearly struggling with the height! also, the barriers at the side could cause the horse to feel trapped, maybe resulting in a fall for the rider too :/
the fact that the poles are nailed into the standard is extremely dangerous. It would have fallen if they weren't nailed in. The horses legs got completely stuck on the front side of the jump..
yayvillee you can't sit there and say that this is 100% safe. The nail under the pole and the nail for the next pole is overlapping and enclosing the pole onto the standard. It would be 100x safer if they used actual jump standards with jump cups.
Maggie Lukenda I watched the video plenty of times. You must be a. blind and not seeing the horses' legs getting stuck because the poles aren't falling, b. ignorant to the fact, or c. you didn't watch the video.
Maggie Lukenda and "they aren't nailed in?" Explain to me why at 3:42 in the video those last four poles didn't fall even though the horse's legs got stuck on them.
I love how everyone is saying "if it was too high the horses wouldn't jump it." if you watched the damn video you'd see that each horse REFUSED the jump at least once, then were pressured into doing it by the idiots riding them. Professionals know how to get over a damn jump safely and beautifully. This crap is neither.
I don't know. I've watched the International Horse Show Puissance live every year for the last 7 years and they are just as prone to a bit of flapping, refusals or just plain falling off. But yeah the horse knows if it is capable and they obviously trust their rider on the times they do make it over with impulsion, when the preparation was right for them to clear it. When it's not, they slam the brakes, as even the best horses do.
Here is my opinion. The jump height is not the worst problem in this mess but the way they set it up is unsafe. The riders position is not doing what it's supposed to and not helping the horse over. They are yanking on their mouths and falling back on the landing putting a mass amount of pressure and shock on the horse. This is not show jumping this is just cruel.
I agree 100% this looks more like a sick carnival attraction. the horses are obviously uncomfortable, the men can't balance on the horses' backs and the jump has fenced around it so in order to not jump they have to refuse and not pull out
+Grace Gochnauer Yes, exactly what I think too! Flapping their arms like chickens and landing like a sack of potatoes on the horse is so horrible and cruel, I can't watch this!
+Grace Gochnauer I agree 100% I like how they whip them and whip them when they just need to realize that the jump is huge and its not even fun for the horse. I would like to see them jump it. Then when they get wiped till they jump it they will realize "oh well this might just be too big". I feel so bad for the horses....:(
Yea everyone keeps saying the horse doesn't wanna jump, but the problem is defenitly the rider. Though this defenitly isn't safe no matter who's riding.
i know that im late but... BAHAHAH they are very experienced, ive been trained by ron easy and he is an excellent rider and has been riding his whole life hes like 50 or 60 now not sure
@@danielleackerman4831 hunny... they are VERY experienced riders, ive been trained by ron and hes amazing and i would LOVE to see you try and ride PERFECT with no flaws and avery high jump
I don't like how these people ride. They kind of fall back into the saddle, instead of moving with the horse. Also, they pull on the horses' mouths when they have jumped the fence. And i also think that they shouldn't be doing this if they are only bothering the horse. I mean, Grand Prix jumpers know how to let the horse jump without bothering it. These people really need to work on that, before they can jump this high. Ofcourse, there were some better jumps. But mostly, they were not good and bad for the horse.
I agree too. It was awful how the men yanked on the horses mouths - it would be okay bitless!! Also I personally think horses can jump higher bareback because they don't have a girth pinching at their sides all the time!! The people also had a disgusting seat and should get some lessons before pushing a horse this hard:)
It doesn't look terrified. If they don't want to jump then they can stop. They didn't beat them or abuse them if they wouldn't go over it lol. These horses have talent and their owners wouldn't put them to jump that high if they couldn't. The horses went over so amazing 👌
@@rubik9429 this was 4 years ago, you're a bit late to the show hunny. The horses won't stop because they'll likely be punished. You can't sit here and say they look comfortable, happy or relaxed at all.
There is some concern at poles rather than foam blocks being used, tack fitting, stirrup length, lack of a forward seat and soft hands but as far as I can see these horses trust their riders and are giving it their all. Decent landing recovery apart from that fall. I just came back from watching the puissance at the London International Horse show and I think the winner (with tons of sponsorship, training and an expensively bred horse under him) only cleared 7ft 2 and a half inches. Makes you wonder what more common or working class horse folk could become given the opportunity.
+Sarah Lievano you are absolutely right. He's not exactly a quiet rider and these horses are clearly right at the limit of what they can achieve, but one or 2 attempts doesn't seem to be good enough for him. A***hole.
If the horses didn't want to do it they wouldn't. they are over a ton and a human cant get them to jump a fence if the horse doesn't want to. it takes a lot of effort from the rider to get to this level
As far as I know the puissance bricks are a lot softer than this and the sand would be raked and done right for the horses, this however is border lining cruelty, the poles are nailed in and the horses dont have a good landing spot, its too soft for them
Yes I completely agree, we just got a new pony and he jumped the puissance wall, and if we did that to him making him jump that I would feel awful! They have horrible position. No tactic, forcing a horrified animal to jump when they are absolutely TERRIFIED, if the poles are nailed into the Fence, if the horse misses it and one is nailed in way too tight. The horses front feel will bend in and their back legs will hit off the poles and face plant the ground!
I hated the way that grey was ridden. Kudos to him for being able to jump that high but really? Falling into the saddle and flapping arms like we're doing the birdy dance? In what world is that meant to encourage a horse. More leg and less birdy. Couldn't it have been attacked with a little more poise and grace? To anyone saying that's too high: see that grey that refused the jump? He didn't want to do it. No matter how much that rider kicked or flapped his arms, you could see the horse wasn't balanced going into the jump and didn't look all that keen so almost said 'sorry dad, not about to happen.' You can't force a horse to do anything. They're a heck of a lot bigger than us and no amount of whipping, spurring etc is going to make a horse do anything it doesn't want to do - there are exceptions to this and we all know it but this is for the majority. In my opinion, from the angle of the camera, most of the horses got far too deep into the jump to be able to execute the jump as best they could. Still, well done.
eline macmountajn so true! These horses fall after the jump and the riders are terrible. Like my instructor told me jumping higher hurts the horses and theses horses practice nonstop, and are probably whipped until they get it right!
Im not an expert on horses or anything but i reckon it way too high and im getting the thought of the horses hooves once they hit the other side and a heap of people are right the rider doesnt ride entirely correct
Tori Spencer for the horses they had put down soft padding right after the jump so it wouldn't be as hard of a landing and much softer for the horses hooves, i agree the riders didn't ride great , and if the horse did not want to do it , it wouldn't have done it , it wasn't too high , it's too high when the horse tells u its too high.
Ya, when you jump you're supposed to wait until all fours are on the ground and then get out of your 2 point. This guy 2 pointed for about half a second and then sat up
How the hell is one supposed to be balanced enough over a 7"7ft jump to maintain a perfect position. He needed to help the horse get over, in doing this yes his position was a bit all over the place however I can't imagine some keyboard warriors landing this jump perfectly. There is absolutely no need to critique how they ride. I think they did awesome and I've seen his rounds at royal shows and he's an awesome rider with a string of amazing horses. Stick to the textbooks Hun and your going to end up eating dirt 😂
Alexa Shaffer A 1200+ pound animal cant be forced into anything. The riders know their horses and besides horses refuse cross poles is that too high too?
horseyash09 The rider should see that the jump is WAY too high and needs to stop beating the horse with his crop. I thought there was a rule about hitting a horse no are than 3 times in a row. Is this a competition, because if this is, then this rule needs to be enforced.
Ella Troedson es ist richtig schlecht für die Pferde! Beim aufkommen werden die Beine richtig umgeknickt aber das zeigen die in dem drecks viedeo ja nicht!!
I'm all for people jumping this high because some horses simply love to do it, but I don't agree with doing it when you're yanking on the horse's mouth, landing hard on its back, and just plain making basic equitation mistakes. I'm not saying I'm incredible at riding, but I think any rider could recognize that this isn't the way that you should be jumping a horse regardless of how high.
I know right!! I was sitting here cringing. Like, yeah, fantastic, it's great that they can jump that high.. but they have to actually do it PROPERLY. I mean, tugging on the horses mouth and whacking it's shoulder with the crop... like you said, regardless of how high the jump is, it needs to be properly and be comfortable for the horse. I totally agree with you.
Depends on your needs and your horse's needs. I use spurs for both on my 19 yo gelding, mostly for lateral work to strengthen his body and get him into the bridle, but sometimes he needs the encouragement, and I certainly avoid the jabbing part!
Francesca Reaney Not if the horse is afraid to jump because it's going to hurt like hell when that pole whacks their legs if they don't get high enough. The spurs hurt too so they get spurred then whacked on the cannon bone
+Chicken Nugget I agree, but I think the riding could be waaayyy better, they were flapping their arms like chickens and their balance was horrible plus their toes!!! The bridle was also very poorly adjusted and fitted.
that guy on the grey horse kept falling off at cairns show in the high jump as well dont know why he bother pushing his horse like that the poor thing isn't built to jump such extream hights
libby but that horse isn't the horse that jumped the highest jump. each horse is different and on horse can jump 6' and a horse that looks like it should be able to jump 6' can't cause they are all built differently.
Anyone hating or saying these people are bad riders. I have had lessons from one of the men riding Ron Easy. He has been to the Olympics for show jumping representing Australia. These people want the best for all the horses and they are amazing people who I have had the pleasure of riding with
This makes me sad. These horses were obviously pushed too far. The riders shouldn't just throw anything at these horses and expect them to jump it. It is very unsafe, you see the white fence things around the jump, if a horse get's spooked after it forfeits a jump, it could easily run into the ride etc. Plus they had music playing, it can be a distraction and any weird or loud noise can easily spook a horse, if they are going to have music, at least put those ear muff things the horses. This isn't riding, they're all slopping and the poor horses.. don't get me wrong, they're great riders to be jumping at this height, but you gotta care for the horse.
Thank you! And I'm not trying to be rude, but you are very idiotic if you say that this is not wrong.. Those riders are flapping their arms like freaking birds towards a jump with the poles nailed! NAILED? Are you kidding me? And like you said if the horse gets spooked/refuses badly they will injure themselves by hitting the white fence things! Poor horses...
+BehindxBlueEyesx I don't think the poles were nailed, they were just pounding in the jump cups. But as I posted just a minute ago, what they're doing is just stupid.
0:24 I'm sure one of the reasons your horse refused because you were beating it so much before the jump. And I would be confused if you patted me and then whipped me over and over ,I would be like, is the approach to a jump negative or positive. Is he telling me to jump it or not? Wth
claudiadaisy so true! The rider whipped the horse over and over and that's why the horse didn't go! The horse is saying "do I go or should I make my rider whip me?!" Horse abuse crops really do hurt horses soo bad
When the man fell I wasn't surprised when his horse ran off. The thing that makes this the worst thing ever is that the crowds are so happy when he manages to bully the horse over the jump. It's makes me sick
Height isn't the problem the problem here is the people only wanting to go over that jump... even if the horses didn't want too, and a horse does everything for his/her owner. l see them shaking their hands hard which yanks the reins.. l wouldn't be surprised if anyone got bucked or reared off if a horse doesn't want too.. they won't.. in my opinion.. this isn't fun.. these people should have a way better relationship with their horse... l'm a horse rider myself for 17 years.. and l can tell the difference...
BRILLIANT. Thank You for uploading to TH-cam. I got my interest back in show jumping in Ireland. I used to have a very good show jumping horse VDL Calvaro Star (ISH). I sold age 5 to make my name in show jumping as a "spotter" of talent. ( bought age 2, sold age 5 ).
As I agree it is somewhat too high the horses will not scrape their legs. The very top pole is wrapped in padding to prevent that and also the horses have boots on to prevent it.
I like how loads of people are insulting the riders. However everyone rides differently, and i'm sure everyone who comments saying "he's too far back in the saddle" "he should stick with some basic equitation" are far from perfect riders and have bad habits themselves, he's not riding dangerously and if he was causing the horse any pain i'm pretty sure it wouldn't be jumping that. I see no issues with this video, as there were many people around to make sure it all went smoothly. It was a soft landing for the horses, and the riders weren't abusive to the horses like i see many 'barn brats' here on youtube smacking their horses for not jumping. These horses are likely to be well bred competition horses... I've worked with horses like that and trust me, they're hard to handle and ride. So you can't moan if a rider is looking sloppy, as for all you know, he's putting all his energy in keeping the horse going and not allowing them to rush into a fence. You don't know what the horse the person is riding is like, so therefore you cannot judge someone's riding based on one video on one horse, as each horse is different to ride, everyone has different riding styles and has to sometimes adapt the riding style depending on the horse you're riding or what you're doing with said horse. I'm pretty sure the man who won this is a damn site better rider than 2/3 of the people commenting on this video, if not more, seeing as he was able to stay on over a 7ft+ jump. I would of been flung out of the saddle by now. So i take my hat off to him and his horse.
I'm sorry but I completely disagree, these riders do need to improve their equitation they shouldn't be jumping this high and flapping their arms around and driving their horse forward with their seat. Just look at grand prix riders who constantly jump this high, they may not have the perfect equitation but they don't yank on their horse's mouths and slam down on their back when they land. when you say "he's putting all his energy into not allowing them not rush into a fence" you can clearly see in this video he's pushing his horse forward in every way possible! I agree that you can't judge someone on just one video but calling riders "barn brats" is just plain immature! Also just because he stayed on over a 7ft + jump doesn't say anything about his skill level, it all depends on how round his horse jumps, where he takes off from, ect. The biggest problem I have about this video is the fact that WHEN THE HORSE HITS THE RAILS THEY DON'T COME DOWN! That's extremely dangerous and stupid. I don't mean to offend anyone by this, I'm sure these riders are fantastic this is just my opinion about this video.
Justine S +PurpleEquines "I agree that you can't judge someone on just one video but calling riders "barn brats" is just plain immature! As I like to see all the people who have commented rudely about this jump this height. I'm sure some can't even go 1M! Heck, I'd like to see try. I take my hat off to him and the horse as well. What he did should be rrecognized I'm sure the man who set the world record for highest jump didn't have the eq of a Grand Prix rider, but so what? They can obviously ride, otherwise they would've fallen off! I doesn't just depend on the horse, if it does, prove it. You go jump 7ft+. And the rails do come down, because if you watched the video, they knocked the rails and guess what... THEY FELL DOWN! She did not call all riders 'barn brats' just some on TH-cam I've met and seen plenty of 'barn brats' who act like they're the best dang riders in the world when really they aren't and they treat there horses really bad as well.
PurpleEquines TheThunderinghooves Well I hate to break it to you but I jump higher the a metre and I'm the one you're talking to. The fact that you're saying "you take you hat off to him and the horse" shows you either don't jump a lot or you just don't know enough about jumping to make and informed comment. And guess what you can have crappy position and still not fall off because of your muscle and balance. And seriously daring me to jump 7ft+? that just shows that you are immature, daring me to do something so stupid and dangerous they could become seriously injured from just landing funny! Also no they rail did not fall down often it may have fell down once of twice but they're not even using jump cups..... And yes she did call us "barn brats" and it's offensive to make a comment prejudging everyone who is commenting, and you are also prejudging everyone by saying we probably don't jump higher then a meter and we act like were the best dang riders who treat their horses badly. Honestly by the comment you made I would guess you're pretty young, around 12, and you haven't had much experience jumping.
this hurts to watch. ive always dreamed of becoming a show jumper, and i know for sure i would never agree to put my horse to these ridiculous obstacles.
Tbh, the height is fine (it looks smaller than a puissance jump) but the techniques of the riders is a bit messy and the material of the jump doesn't make it inviting either. its just the fact that the jump poles are tied on too, which when hit by the horse's leg wont give way.
This is so dangerous! The fact that the jumps are nailed in, and how badly the riders are riding is creating a huge risk of a rotational fall. The horses legs are getting completely stuck!
Why is everyone so critical ? To jump that high takes lots of courage from the horse and rider... most people commenting probably haven’t even jumped half the height of that fence...
I don't see a problem with their riding and everyone looks like they are having a great time:) great video I hope one day I'll be able to jump that high
r u serious?! Do you really think the horses are having a great time? That's just funny for the humans! They dont think about their horses it's just about who can jump higher and higher
Why Da Long Face um if u ride you should see the problem with their form while there trying to get speed there bouncing everywhere on their backs causing pressure so ya and this is so dangerous I hope u don't jump this high
This is so typical. Of course, you only think of yourself and how much fun and success you will have. But you have no interest how the horse is concerned.... this is so selfish
Actually absolutely no credits for the rider. The one at 0:24 patted the horse then whipped it so hard. Those are stupid riders and not experienced. Before you say I don’t ride horses, I do.
TAKE THOSE BITS OUT OF THE HORSES MOUTHS RIGHT NOW AND WHILST YOUR AT LEARN SOMETHING CALLED JUMPING ABILITY!!!!!! I don't like to leave negative comments on videos but these horses are being steered at jump, having their tongues stuffed down their throats by their bits and hen expected to throw themselves at a jump with no impulsive or even thought for striding!! They are practically falling over the fences!! Learn how to ride!!!!
+HorseGirl900 The horses can refuse if they want, but they choose to go over because they have a bond with their owners. Bits are not cruel, just think about how heavy western saddles are (I'm not implying that you ride western) and some of them have really heavy riders, that mount from the ground. Think about their backs.
+Kristy Buckley-Smith sorry I'm not starting an argument but the horses are surrounded by shouting and being forced into the jump. In the horse's mind he/she is looking for release and the only way to do that is to run over the fence and get away quickly. I can guarantee that if those horses were left loose and being loose schooled, they would not go and voluntarily jump those fences
These horses are so talented! I think chase me charlie's are good, and fun for both horse and rider, but there needs to be a limit. Why does a horse need to jump 7ft7? It's just going to make their lives harder as they get older, and although it may seem fun now, it won't be worth it in the long run ...
I've met this amazing man, and he would never cause his horses any discomfort. He is a stunning instructor. The way the jump is set up is a little dangerous, but what can you do? Its a show full of unhorsey people. I remind you all grand prix jumpers jump this and more, and most of you are fine with it. Plus, I'm also certain Ron wouldn't be too bloody worried about his equitation jumping that high.
The just being set up safely should ALWAYS be your number one priority! It's extremely dangerous if the jumps aren't set up properly you could seriously injure yourself or your horse! No matter if you're surrounded by horsey people or not the riders should no better then that. No, grand prix riders don't jump this regularly they jump 1.50 and 1.60 regularly, not 7 feet. Maybe more if they were competing in a 6 bar. Also, why do you think your trainer is always talking about you having proper equitation? Just so you look good? No it's so that you're balanced in the saddle and not interfering with your horse as he jumps.
I keep seeing comments sayings its too high or its bad for the horse, its only for one day its not like they do it every day, they have padding after the jump to prevent injuries, horses can jump unbelievably high, and yes they are pulling on the reins way to much and their jumping position is not what it should be doing, i agree with that part. Also the poles are getting nailed in the jump which is actually really bad because the horses leg might get stuck and the pole won’t fall down so the horse will most likely fall over.
wow, saw all the approaches were the horses refused? Ever heard of the fact that horses are getting FORCED to jump that high? Ever heard of the long time damages this stuff is causing? "If they didn't want, they wouln't" is the most stupid answer to abuse in existence.
@@AntiOptimusPartei Horses will put up with a lot of things we put them through. A horse does it because it's been beaten into submission and desensitized which is not a good thing.
@@AntiOptimusPartei another excuse that pisses me off is when they say they are well bred, loved, given a blanket, well fed and stabled. Like that matters when you have them locked up in stables for hours and treat them like shit when you ride them. That's like man who abuses his wife, but says he still loves her by taking care of her and giving her gifts.
Ok. Clearly the jumps are too high! The highest I've seen an actual professional jump would be 2m12 and they didn't push their horse into the fence like these people
My trainer says: When jumping, heels down, lean forward while coming up to the jump, kick, click, and follow your horse body, sit straight until the jump when the horse jumps, YOU follow it’s body. These riders flopped in the position of the saddle, and would of fallen off if it hadn’t of been for SAINT horses.
I don’t think these riders have ever been in any other competitions they just take it as a challenge with friends and find a horse that CAN jump high and look at it like it will work
For all the haters out there, i would like to see you jumping that high. They are under pressure and they are also trying to control an animal. Have some respect will u
Little Miss Sunshine Being a rider, it is difficult but pushing a horse too much is enough. Though these riders are very well more likely to jump other horses at their barns. And these horses have a love of some sort to jump but the riders riding is what many others have commented, it's very sloppy. I don't jump yet but jumping and riding a bit of riding is technique. So, these horses should be walked out to cool down and not worked much if so not at all. And I said before, they seem to be sloppy-ish riders. For they don't have a well seat at all. So you can see them bouncing in the canter. Which where I ride, we are taught to sit well before anything else in the canter and will only focus on our seat on the canter for months if needed. now I'm doing many other things in the canter but all I wanted to say is these horses are healthy and will not be overworked after this. It's just the riders.
Horse Rider 2016 well everyones taught different. Also jumping at this height can make yo loose your balance in the seat. These riders are not looking at their positions or anything, their one goal is to get them and their horse over the fence. If you dont like sloppy riding then i would just not watch this video and i wouldnt recomend you watching how polo people ride either.
Little Miss Sunshine Yea, going over the jump/obstacle would make you lose your balance. But the approach could have been a little better. But this video was in the past so now we don't really have to worry.
Im cracking myself up reading these comments... from "learn how to ride, to these horses are scared and dont like jumping etc"... these riders and horses are professional showjumpers- theres an Olympian showjumper in there for gods sake lol... people are always sooo quick to judge and make ridiculous comments.... always experts from their armchairs! ;)
Lol and these are the people that say, “My stupid horse needs to be locked up in a stall his whole life because he jumps all the fences in the pasture!”
So many things are wrong with this. I will make a list, because I don’t want to type it all out in a paragraph. • There was no technique to the jumping, all the riders rode the horse into the jump with as much speed as possible, which helps, but the horses weren’t in a collected gallop, it was in an uncollected gallop which if they jumped a weird way it would fall into the jump and injure itself very badly. • The riders had no proper training on how to stay up in the saddle, because they all were falling backwards into the saddle as they were going over the jump, which pulled the horses mouth. A very experienced rider is able to release but still have contact with the horses mouth, but these guys just fell backwards and pulled the mouth, which can make a horse afraid to be pulled on by anyone. • The poles were nailed into the jump, so if a horse fell into it, the poles could have broken and ripped up the horse. If the horse had gotten its hoof caught in the poles from the front, the horse could have flipped over and it is a potential risk for the rider, regardless if the jump is 2.3, or 7.7. You really would want to have flat cups, so that way if the horse knocks them then they would fall with the horse instead of it possibly flipping over. At this height, it’s just not safe. • The way some of them rode the horses was aweful, I saw some sawing at the mouth constantly, and even driving all the time. If the rider can’t ride the horse properly without hurting the horse to make it behave, then don’t put that rider on the horse.
Here's my two cents From my observations I noticed most people who commented that "this is abuse" and " learn how to ride" etc are people who have most likely never even ridden a horse let alone been to the Olympics In my opinion I can comprehend why people interpret this video In a negative light however I'm sorry to inform you that you are wrong. First off the rider is in no way not displaying horsemanship which is the bond between the horse and rider, by working together in unison to achieve a goal whether it be breaking a record or winning a competition. Secondly in order to clear a jump of this caliber a rider my use impulsion not speed however speed is still necessary in successfully clearing the jump. In addition the riders approach was fine with that being said every horse is different and people handle them accordingly, having ur hands slightly raised an body width apart gives the horse freedom in their movement. Educate yourself first 💁🏽
People in the comments are saying jumping is horse abuse.. Chill ppl.. Horse abuse is if a horse looks like its in terrible shape and/or if the rider is making the horse work reallyhard..
I know people may have different opinions but the poles are nailed into the jump which is very dangerous and a horse could do a rotational fall if the nails won't come out.
Okay for all of the people bashing each other let me sum this up for you. I think the idea of jumping this high is not safe for the horse. For those who think the riders are bad I'm sure it could go both ways depending on which one you are talking about.
The rider is just relying on speed to get over the jump, no techniques. The height isn't a problem, the riding is.
omg right. I know that and i only ride western!! The horses do not get the right stride.

I always find in show jumping (theres always someone) who really holds their horse back untilthe last minute and i feel that it would be more effective to allow the horse to find a sustainable, forward rythym in the canter to keep the impulsion? then again, I'm no expert so it's only a thought :) but fences at this height with solid poles is a bit too much, especially pushing the horses over and over the fence even though they are clearly struggling with the height! also, the barriers at the side could cause the horse to feel trapped, maybe resulting in a fall for the rider too :/
*I know they arent always being harsh on the horses but occasionally it's clear that they get in a bit of a fight against the horse
This guys position with every horse is really bad... He flops all over their back and seesaws their mouth over the jump... no wonder their stopping
Agreed, he doesn't give them enough neck leverage. If they had more freedom and better Eq all the horses would have been capable of doing kt

but yeah this is ridiculous
Wow I didn’t know that equestrian where so evil leave them be ok I bet you can’t make that height can tho if you can pls show because I am wating
the fact that the poles are nailed into the standard is extremely dangerous. It would have fallen if they weren't nailed in. The horses legs got completely stuck on the front side of the jump..
The poles aren't nailed on, the nails are put in the frame and the poles are rested on the nails 😂
yayvillee you can't sit there and say that this is 100% safe. The nail under the pole and the nail for the next pole is overlapping and enclosing the pole onto the standard. It would be 100x safer if they used actual jump standards with jump cups.
The poles arent nailed in... Did you watch the video? The horses knocked the poles repeatedly. The jump cups are nailed in.
THANK YOU!
Example 3:09 I'm with you FreddieDressage
amen sister. i know this is late but it's whatever lol
Well what if your horse refused does that mean that your the worst rider living, to you it probably would 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Here is my opinion.
I feel so bad for the horses....:(
+Olivia Goodfellow and there not even cantering on the right leg
+Natalie Wemyss also their heels are pointed straight down I the middle of the jumps, a big no no
i dont think the riders are experienced enough to be jumping this height. the horses need more experienced riders
Yea everyone keeps saying the horse doesn't wanna jump, but the problem is defenitly the rider. Though this defenitly isn't safe no matter who's riding.
You needa check your eyes if you think these riders are experienced. Half of them can't even sit the goddamn canter smh
i know that im late but...
Well they seem to be jumpers, as jumpers don’t care much about equitation or how they ride just the fastest time
I don't like how these people ride.
I agree
I agree too. It was awful how the men yanked on the horses mouths - it would be okay bitless!! Also I personally think horses can jump higher bareback because they don't have a girth pinching at their sides all the time!! The people also had a disgusting seat and should get some lessons before pushing a horse this hard:)
I completely agree. The horses jump, the riders just go like, AAAHHHHHHHH I HAVE TO PULL ON THE REINS OTHERWISE IM GONNA DIEEEEEE
Yup! Especially the one on Ghost - he was awful!!
Agreed. Looks like they're trying to pull their head under when they land.... they're lucky the horse didn't fall.
This isn't riding, this is clinging on to a terrified animal galloping at an obstacle that it is forced to jump over.
It doesn't look terrified. If they don't want to jump then they can stop. They didn't beat them or abuse them if they wouldn't go over it lol. These horses have talent and their owners wouldn't put them to jump that high if they couldn't. The horses went over so amazing 👌
@@toughdawg 0:20 um yea that dude definitely 'didn't beat the horse (sarcasm)
And the horses wouldn't jump so stiffly if they wanted to jump.
Laura Liis Põld hunny the horse can stop if it wants to no matter what the rider is doing
@@rubik9429 this was 4 years ago, you're a bit late to the show hunny. The horses won't stop because they'll likely be punished. You can't sit here and say they look comfortable, happy or relaxed at all.
It is riding, ive trained with ronnie and he is an excellent ride, hes helped me so much.
Makes you wonder what more common or working class horse folk could become given the opportunity.
so many things wrong with this
Ikr I totally agree 👍
I know right, I cringed!
+Sarah Lievano you are absolutely right. He's not exactly a quiet rider and these horses are clearly right at the limit of what they can achieve, but one or 2 attempts doesn't seem to be good enough for him. A***hole.
+Sara InUK the poor horses, having 2 do that.......*sigh
no person seems 2 care that the horses could get REALLY hurt
That's ridiculous, even Olympic riders don't go that high
Exactly!!!
Yes, yes they do but the problem here is these are unexperienced people
Bad riding. Amazing horses, no technique to the jump, just getting the speed up.
I feel bad for the horses
No amount of beating would get a 1200lbs horse to jump something that he didn't want to jump.
If the horses didn't want to do it they wouldn't. they are over a ton and a human cant get them to jump a fence if the horse doesn't want to. it takes a lot of effort from the rider to get to this level
You act like it takes no effort to stay on a jump like that? Seriously.
There is a massive difference between "staying on" and actually correctly riding the jump
Still, well done.
ikr??? its so cruel, and i hate how the riders mis treat there horses like they are a mashine

wshuwrhre1 sorry your right its a sloppy rider ;"D .but when the horse fails on that big jump thats just very bad:/
eline macmountajn so true! These horses fall after the jump and the riders are terrible. Like my instructor told me jumping higher hurts the horses and theses horses practice nonstop, and are probably whipped until they get it right!
Live_Breathe_Ride THE RAILS SHOULD FALL BUT THEY HAMMER THEM INTO PLACE LIKE IF YOU ARE A TRUE EQUESTRIAN YOU SHOULD KNOW HOW TO SET UP A JUMP
eline macmountajn i trink too
There is no need to be jumping that high
I mean not to be harsh it's just you know it's just a bit high
no theres not
Im not an expert on horses or anything but i reckon it way too high and im getting the thought of the horses hooves once they hit the other side and a heap of people are right the rider doesnt ride entirely correct
Jenny Westtree the horses were getting whipped they hard to do it or they would get whipped more. The horses clearly didn't want to
The guy riding is really bad at landing. He just flops all over the place.

It's too high! Poor Horses :(
If it was too high the horse wouldn't do it. Simple.
Alexa Shaffer A 1200+ pound animal cant be forced into anything. The riders know their horses and besides horses refuse cross poles is that too high too?
horseyash09 Yeah, my horse will sometimes even refuse a cavaletti.
Just Me and Misty Exactly, horses have a flight response and sometimes need reassurance, these riders obviously know their horse.
horseyash09 The rider should see that the jump is WAY too high and needs to stop beating the horse with his crop. I thought there was a rule about hitting a horse no are than 3 times in a row. Is this a competition, because if this is, then this rule needs to be enforced.
no horsemanship whatsoever.

+_its_aimee_ yeah that's why I don't really agree with it but that's just my opinion. I ain't trying to start something 😂
I agree with you, I am actually against riding at all, it just hurts the horse :/
A horse isn't supposed to jump higher than two inches under their jaw, it's a big risk to let them jump this high
The riding here is atrocious and aggressive. These people should be going back to basics before they're attempting such large jumps.
Shania Callender
I agree, Also I was watching some of these people jabbing spurs into the sides of the horses. I always thought spurs were more for lateral work?
Depends on your needs and your horse's needs. I use spurs for both on my 19 yo gelding, mostly for lateral work to strengthen his body and get him into the bridle, but sometimes he needs the encouragement, and I certainly avoid the jabbing part!
Francesca Reaney Not if the horse is afraid to jump because it's going to hurt like hell when that pole whacks their legs if they don't get high enough. The spurs hurt too so they get spurred then whacked on the cannon bone
horseabusing live on camera, yey!
+Chicken Nugget I agree, but I think the riding could be waaayyy better, they were flapping their arms like chickens and their balance was horrible plus their toes!!! The bridle was also very poorly adjusted and fitted.

I agree as well that's dangerous
Then search up the world's tallest horse jump!
libby but that horse isn't the horse that jumped the highest jump. each horse is different and on horse can jump 6' and a horse that looks like it should be able to jump 6' can't cause they are all built differently.
+NancyR3454 it looks like the jump cups were like almost attached to the poles though. And you're right, it's so stupid
where's the humanity
That's the problem there is none
0:24 I'm sure one of the reasons your horse refused because you were beating it so much before the jump. And I would be confused if you patted me and then whipped me over and over ,I would be like, is the approach to a jump negative or positive. Is he telling me to jump it or not? Wth
It refused because he just told her to go faster without "collecting" her energy
claudiadaisy so true!
Height isn't the problem the problem here is the people only wanting to go over that jump... even if the horses didn't want too, and a horse does everything for his/her owner.
l see them shaking their hands hard which yanks the reins.. l wouldn't be surprised if anyone got bucked or reared off
if a horse doesn't want too.. they won't..
in my opinion.. this isn't fun.. these people should have a way better relationship with their horse... l'm a horse rider myself for 17 years.. and l can tell the difference...
I cried, when I saw this poor horses..

Damn.... This jump is WAY TOO HIGHT!! Poor horses... they will scrap their front legs. I love show jumpings, but not this kind of crazy jump.
As I agree it is somewhat too high the horses will not scrape their legs. The very top pole is wrapped in padding to prevent that and also the horses have boots on to prevent it.
WTF THIS IS SO DANGEROUS FOR THE HORSES!!! IT COULD SERIOUSLY HURT THEM!
I agree completely with Purple Equines.
I jump 6'2 and I really dont understand why they have to be THIS extra like damn. 💜 a 26 year old rider who has been riding since 5
this hurts to watch. ive always dreamed of becoming a show jumper, and i know for sure i would never agree to put my horse to these ridiculous obstacles.
I don't like how they put the fences on the side.. That could be dangerous..
wie kann man seinen pferd so etwas antuen
It's not the height that's the problem, its the way they ride it.
Wie ihr die Fahigkeiten der wundervollen Tiere missbraucht😣😰🤢🤕
its very interesting to see a local video i didn't get to the show that year
Wie kann man nur so etwas grausames tun!??
Jessica Oswald über wiederrist höhe ????? dein ernst ????? das wäre ja fast noch ok das waren 2m30 ( so groß is jein pferd)😢

Tbh, the height is fine (it looks smaller than a puissance jump) but the techniques of the riders is a bit messy and the material of the jump doesn't make it inviting either.
its just the fact that the jump poles are tied on too, which when hit by the horse's leg wont give way.
it would be so much safer if they just used stacked blocks like in the puissance, for both rider and horses sake.😒
This is so dangerous! The fact that the jumps are nailed in, and how badly the riders are riding is creating a huge risk of a rotational fall. The horses legs are getting completely stuck!
Das ist Tierquälerei das Pferd hätte sich richtig schlimm verletzen können. Ich verstehe solche Menschen nicht
It's amazing how the horses haven t broken there legs .
The horses legs got completely stuck on the other side of the fence. This is actually cruel
I agree 😡
Why is everyone so critical ? To jump that high takes lots of courage from the horse and rider... most people commenting probably haven’t even jumped half the height of that fence...
I don't see a problem with their riding and everyone looks like they are having a great time:) great video I hope one day I'll be able to jump that high
r u serious?! Do you really think the horses are having a great time? That's just funny for the humans! They dont think about their horses it's just about who can jump higher and higher
The horses are obviously not having fun though, maybe one horse but most of them look bored and scared
You gotta give these horses and rider some credit for actually doing it tho-
I do agree this jump is too big, but good job to the ones who went over!
+Kristy Buckley-Smith also the horse did refuse a few times but then got whipped and forced into jumping it whilst some in able man yanked its mouth!
But the horse still could've refused!
+HorseGirl900 ummmm, you do realise you are telling an OLYMPIAN showjumper to learn how to ride lol??
Are horses' lower legs damaged by this sport? I saw the sawdust landing pit, but how many jumps can a horse make without injury?
AWWWW there was one limping 3:21
Equestrian Life p
Equestrian Life poor horsey :( and, u play Star Stable too?
I keep seeing comments sayings its too high or its bad for the horse, its only for one day its not like they do it every day, they have padding after the jump to prevent injuries, horses can jump unbelievably high, and yes they are pulling on the reins way to much and their jumping position is not what it should be doing, i agree with that part. Also the poles are getting nailed in the jump which is actually really bad because the horses leg might get stuck and the pole won’t fall down so the horse will most likely fall over.
I do not agree with the riders techniques/approach but if the horse didn't want to jump it, they wouldn't.
BB. Kaye or maybe some horses are just far too honest for their riders!
wow, saw all the approaches were the horses refused?
Ik I’m late but THE RIDERS LEGS WHEN THEY ARE JUMPING💀
Ok. Clearly the jumps are too high! The highest I've seen an actual professional jump would be 2m12 and they didn't push their horse into the fence like these people
My trainer says:
When jumping, heels down, lean forward while coming up to the jump, kick, click, and follow your horse body, sit straight until the jump when the horse jumps, YOU follow it’s body.
These riders flopped in the position of the saddle, and would of fallen off if it hadn’t of been for SAINT horses.
I don’t think these riders have ever been in any other competitions they just take it as a challenge with friends and find a horse that CAN jump high and look at it like it will work
You can seriously hurt your horse jumping that high!
Omg that's so amazing now that's a thing to be worried or scared of messing up in
Hasn’t anyone else noticed none of them are wearing a back protector 😬😱
For all the haters out there, i would like to see you jumping that high. They are under pressure and they are also trying to control an animal. Have some respect will u
Little Miss Sunshine sorry but this is no "animal control" this is complusion
I would like to see you jump that high. Oh waight, you cant! Stop hating on this when you dont know what the riders have to deal with.
Little Miss Sunshine
Being a rider, it is difficult but pushing a horse too much is enough.
Little Miss Sunshine
Yea, going over the jump/obstacle would make you lose your balance. But the approach could have been a little better. But this video was in the past so now we don't really have to worry.
Its amazing that those horses can jump that, but yet, i think its almost pushing the limits....
Poor horseys
The Person on the white horse is pulling the rains
2020 someone?
The thing is... he didn’t seem to take jumping position correctly... that’s why he bounced so high which leads to pulling on the reins.
I love how everyone in the comment section suddenly become equitation experts
am i the only one who noticed when they played "gentleman" by psy in the background?
Here's my two cents
From my observations I noticed most people who commented that "this is abuse" and " learn how to ride" etc are people who have most likely never even ridden a horse let alone been to the Olympics In my opinion I can comprehend why people interpret this video In a negative light however I'm sorry to inform you that you are wrong.
Educate yourself first 💁🏽
I kinda agree but at some points the riders pulled on the reins to hard. Common mistake.
Poor Horses! 😭😭 It must rely hurt wen they touch the jump.
1.37 was a amazing jump
I’m not a horse expert but even I got a bad feeling with how they looked flopping about on the saddle and how the horses looked a bit stressed. :/
ghost was Like "bich i anit doig nothing"
wouldn't be surprised if any of these horses had some type of injury on them after this :I
People in the comments are saying jumping is horse abuse.. Chill ppl.. Horse abuse is if a horse looks like its in terrible shape and/or if the rider is making the horse work reallyhard..
I know people may have different opinions but the poles are nailed into the jump which is very dangerous and a horse could do a rotational fall if the nails won't come out.
Reminder: if you have to whip your horse to go over a jump, your horse does not want to jump and is not enjoying the ride
So sad. If I was one of those horses those people would be bucked off!
wait, why are there so many dislikes?
It's kinda cruel to be making them jump this high
3:41 Pardon me, but what the actual hell was that leg..?
I feel like there isnt enough distance/speed for the height of a jump. But the horses and riders did well considering.
those horses must have been exhausted... how many times did they jump that? like 20 times or more?
Did anyone else notice that when the horse hit the wall, the bars should have fallen! That could seriously injure one of those horses!!
I look at this and feel so bloody sorry for the horses there are so many things wrong with this I couldn't watch it till the end to sad😖😥😪😓
I don‘t know if they know that this is a horse not a machine
Okay for all of the people bashing each other let me sum this up for you. I think the idea of jumping this high is not safe for the horse. For those who think the riders are bad I'm sure it could go both ways depending on which one you are talking about.
I like how ghost’s owner aloud him to see before going.:)
