@@user-ck5mg9rh8t They're kids, it's safe for the ponies and the children. It is only unsafe if the rider is too big for the horse, and in this event, the kids are all the right size, it's better for kids to ride ponies so then there is less of a chance of severe injuries while riding :)

That little bay was quite the pistol! He was taking that big bay paint pony on the outside. If he hadn't have stumbled and the boy fell off, they would have won. Good race.
not true - I'm a jockey youre supposed to hold the reins tightly before the race so your horse/pony doesn't get his/her excitement up to much. Then when the race bell goes you losen your reins a touch and leg your pony/horse on
that boy had it coming, he needed to sit up and calm that pony down from the moment he got on board, he'd have had a disciplinary if he'd been doing the UK version, He got too close to the pony in front when they were on parade, and entirely pulled his pony off balance which is why it stumbled. HOpe he's learned his lesson

They are a sturdy breed, great with small children and are the ideal breed to have in riding schools. Shetland Ponies can have a volatile temperament. They are prone to laminitis and are very cheeky little characters. They will buck, as they are stubborn little ponies, so expect some bucking from them. You must earn their trust. Shetland Ponies are very hairy. They have a thick mane and have a not entirely amusing mischievous streak. They have a competitive streak and actually enjoy the holidays.

Had a welsh pony as a small child. She was super cute. Rode her as was taking lessons on big horses at my trainers barn. One day in the ring she kicked my trainer's show jumping mare. Didn't hurt her but boy was my trainer done with ponies. My vet bought her for his son and I got a free lease on one of my trainer's older horses who was 17.1hh. Big change from a 10hh pony to 17hh. But the horse was always quiet and well behaved.
I saw how that pony who lost it's rider was so careful not to step on the kid....it knew where the kid landed and narroly missed them by swinging it's hind side out further. Smart pony!

But fine, judge her because she didn't smile and that she didn't pat her pony right after she won, because we literally just saw the last 10 seconds after the race finished and maybe she smiled 12 seconds after we will never know because we were not there -.-'
These are American "Shetlands". So very far removed from the true island ponies with lots of Hackney mixed in. American Shetlands are fine boned with high stepping action like the Hackney.
