  • Brooks Townsend invites us into his small yet stunning architectural gem, lovingly dubbed the "Escape House", nestled amidst the breathtaking landscapes of Joshua Tree, California. This labor of love, years in the making, became a reality after meeting his architect and design collaborator, Luis Herrera. Together, they have created a house that seamlessly blends with its natural surroundings, nestled between vast desert expanses and towering granite boulders.
    Brooks guides us through his thoughtfully curated design decisions, from the careful selection of materials to the choice of his art pieces. We also learn the fascinating story behind his acquisition of the land, sparked by a chance encounter with a neighbor during a bike ride through the desert.
    Through strategically positioned windows, we are treated to awe-inspiring vistas of the desert landscape, where each sunrise paints the sky, all while Brooks eloquently describes how he believes the house forms a relationship with the earth and sky.
    Let us know what you think of this fantastic house in the comments below!

    there's a really masculine, minimalist and rugged element about this entire home. the visual landscape is tremendous - i can't imagine being able to see those kinds of sunrises every morning. indeed a get away home. beautifully curated in every way!

    I love how this story is not about the owner and his house but people around him. Great guy. Genuine. Joshua Tree is one of my favorite places. Almost yearly I ride my bike from Seattle to JT. Thank you for the feature.

      Do you think they get water from a well? And the waste goes to septic tank?

    This guy should be the architect. His vision and ideas incorporated into the house is what makes it what it is. I have a million dollar property here in Honolulu in a place called Palolo Valley that is about 3-4 miles as the crow flies to Waikiki beach. I can see the ocean from my 10x30' deck which is about 60' above the street below since my property is on the side of a hill. I would trade this in a heartbeat for a property like his. Always thought the desert was beautiful and peaceful.

    Them boulders looking ominously over the property though 🙈 that’ll surely make it one with the landscape!
    Jokes aside though this house looks like somewhere I’d want to live, I love the way it looks modern but seamlessly fits in with its environment, well done 👍

    It looks like they have a narrow side with a small window facing West. That's very smart and permaculture, as the west side is the hottest.

    Nice & Beautiful but HOT AS SHIT (especially with steel siding😂) in the Summer…or 6 mos out of the year. …seasonal home for sure. If that view didn’t include other homes or rooftops I’d give it a 9…you’re in the desert, I’d wanna piss off my patio deck if desired🎉

      Ya that dark brown steel roof and the steel railings in the summer. Ooofff. Wouldn't be much fun in July and August when it's 115 degrees outside.

    Not much here; mostly a glorification video with an abundance of some guy driving his Porsche, living in the desert in a decidedly ordinary wedge house with an abundance of scenes of Porsche driving (incredibly interesting content) sprinkled with some knick-knack type decor and ho-hum whatever. Next… click!

      Sums it up perfectly.
      Major big d*ck energy vibes all around, where the cars make more of an impact than the architecture.

    Honestly, it looks bad to me

    • @whatacnut
      @whatacnut 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I have to agree. Architecture should first and foremost, complement the surroundings, not impose itself like a sore thumb.
      This landscape is breathtakingly beautiful and I feel that this design does not make it any justice. (I‘m mostly talking about the exterior)
      The main issue I find with this is having the house on 2 floors with such a tiny footprint. Instead of blending in with the background, it just stands out.... odd design.
      Big no-go for me.

    • @comealongcomealong4480
      @comealongcomealong4480 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @nopetuber I wonder if this Escape House looks bad to you because the US desert landscape is far from your own environmental experience. (Edit: Joshua Tree, CA.) This is a very distinct, harsh landscape to inhabit and build in.

    Like the house design. Not a fan of neighbors or telephone poles.
